  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage and was surprised that it is so spacious for just a cottage for 2."

However an idea would be to perhaps provide a little welcome pack for your guests as this is something many cottages provide now and is much appreciated and just adds that finishing touch

Comfortable bed . Hot, powerful shower. Well equipped kitchen with modern appliances and knives that actually cut! I don't have any negative comments. For those who like a rest from driving, there are bus stops for Weymouth and Dorchester only minutes away. Keen gardeners should visit The Island Nursery for well kept plants and delicious cake - the perfect combination.

We loved sitting at the table in the big window in the lounge and looking out at the wonderful view. Very comfortable bed, for a good night's sleep. Shop across the road, very convenient and friendly staff. Very dog friendly place. People in Weymouth are very friendly and greet you, while out and about. We have already booked to go back to the lower cottage next year to do some more exploring of this wonderful area.

Highly recommended. The friendly owner of the property and his wife are extremely helpful. Best of all, where is a delightful ‘open all hours’ village shop right opposite the property for all the essentials one needs during your stay. Who could ask for more?

While we stayed there sadly our dog got very ill and had to be put to sleep. The owners, Alastair & Janet were so very kind, caring and understood the pain we were going through. You could not wish to meet more genuine people so we would not hesitate in going back to them. Jim & Lorraine Walsh

The cottage it's self was exceptionally clean with all that you could possibly want for a week away. (fridge/freezer a bit small though). Location is perfect for all the beaches you need, major supermarkets only a 3 minute drive away. For great meal out over looking the distant sea try the Fat Badger. Dave Emma and the Yorkies.

  • "Really enjoyed our stay at Upper Butchers Cottage, the owners were very friendly and helpful."

The kitchen and bathroom is a bit dated, but it all works fine and was sparkling clean. 42” LG smart TV with great connectivity is always a bonus, and the view over the Dorset hills is spectacular. The road is not particularly busy and since the bedroom is on the back, even with all the windows open at night it was surprisingly quiet. The garden is sunny till about 8pm in high summer which enabled us to use our own BBQ for some meals.

The owner was very friendly. Would rather have a dishwasher than a washing machine, but that's just my preference. Would be good to have a bigger fridge even for just 2 people. Lovely views from the lounge window very calming. Would definitely come back.

  • "We had such an amazing week at Upper Butchers Cottage!"

The location was absolutely perfect for exploring Dorset and the cottage itself was spotless and super cosy. We were very lucky with the weather all week so made use of the enclosed garden! We really enjoyed sitting out on the deck chairs for a few hours in the evening after walks along the beach. Beach towels & dog towels provided which I thought was a lovely touch! We also loved the big window in the living room, the view is so nice and we enjoyed a cup of tea looking out on a morning! We visited Bowleaze Cove, Weymouth, Ringstead Bay, Lyme Regis, Dorchester, Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, West Bay, Chesil Beach and Portland during our stay - all within an hour drive and all stunning places! It was our first holiday with our puppy Archie and everywhere was so dog friendly - it was great! We can highly recommend a few places to eat during your stay: - The Lookout Cafe at Bowleaze Cove for a top breakfast! - Lulworth Cove Inn - great little sun spot and really good food! - The Bell Cliff cafe at Lyme Regis - amazing views! Perfect stop for a coffee! - The cafe on Portland island does a delicious cream tea. - Lyme’s Fish Bar in Lyme Regis for fish & chips! - All the cafes/restaurants along the Harbour in Weymouth are lovely! Such a nice spot to sit for a drink or a bite to eat. We went to Custom House Cafe & Quayside Bar - both really good! We are quite honestly so upset to be home! The owners are also lovely! Very friendly and kind and we had a good chat with them :) I can’t recommend this beautiful cottage enough, we felt right at home all week and Archie really enjoyed himself too! I’m sure we will be back again!

It was clean and comfortable. Beach towels were a nice touch (but we had brought our own) as were the binoculars so we could look at the wildlife from the large window in the living room which had stunning views. The owners and their pets were incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome. The shared garden was lovely to relax in on a sunny afternoon. I highly recommend.

About the location

UPWEY

Dorchester 4.5 miles; Weymouth 4 miles.

The picturesque village of Upwey lies just four miles north of Weymouth, nestling beneath the Dorset Ridgeway, and takes its name from the shallow chalk stream, the River Wey, which bubbles up here from an underground spring. Upwey is well-known for its Wishing Well, where George III once sought the benefits of the natural spring water. It is now a delightful tea room, serving lunches and traditional cream teas. There are a number of footpaths leading directly from the village to miles of unspoilt countryside, and close by is the market town of Dorchester, Thomas Hardy’s ’Casterbridge’. An easy drive or bus ride takes you to the popular seaside resort of Weymouth offering visitors glorious golden sandy beaches, excellent watersports facilities and a bustling harbour. An attractive village location and an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
