The hosts, Dave and Sue could not have been more friendly, helpful, and intent that their guests should have a good time satying at the Nest. It's in a lovely spot on the edge of open countryside with many local walks straight from the door. Sue and Dave are warm and friendly hosts, available if help is required without being intrusive. • "The Nest is a REALLY lovely holiday home."

We had a week stay at the end of November, and it provided us with a warm, cosy and perfect retreat. The owners have thought about everything that might be needed to provide a real home from home while staying there, and everything that they have used and provided, speaks of quality and thoughtfulness. Lovely Welcome Pack of goodies on arrival too. Unfortunately for my husband, he's now got the head scratch, of trying to figure out how we can get underfloor heating in our own home, as we're now completely sold on it...its sooo cosy! Two of the main issues for me when renting holiday accommodation, are usually the comfort of the bed, and the power of the shower....both of these get a big 5 star rating. The bed is an absolute dream, and the shower is lovely and hot and perfectly powerful. I shouldn't forget to mention that The Nest is well positioned for visiting many beautiful places, including Stone Henge just a short distance away, and the local view gave us lots of sightings of Red Kites, which are birds that I've not seen before, so was quite a thrill. All in all for comfort, location and all round enjoyability, we couldn't fault The Nest as a pefect holiday cottage.

Sue greeted us on arrival and we found the cottage to be extremely clean, comfortable and very well furnished with high quality standard. The bathroom is well equipped with a powerful shower. There was a gift of bread milk butter and fruit which was very welcome. Everything you could have wanted was in the cottage and has been very well thought out. There were books, dvd, cd, and games for wet weather . We sat outside on the little patio taking in the sun and our dog enjoyed his walks up the farm track beside the cottage, where we saw lots of pheasants and partridge in the nearby fields. Sue and Dave were lovely and often stopped for a chat but were not intrusive. It’s shame the local pub is closed as it looks a lovely building, but we did have two very enjoyable meals at the Red Lion in Heytesbury. We would have no hesitation in returning or recommending this cottage.

Everything that 2 people would need or want is provided including reclining chair, entertainment system and a very comfortable bed to name but a few. Plus on arrival there is a welcome pack of essentials including milk, artisan bread, spreadable butter and fruit which was much appreciated. The owners Sue and Dave are very friendly and approachable if you require help or just a chat, but they leave you to 'your own devices' if you so desire. Chitterne, although a small village is well situated for visiting local towns in Wiltshire for your groceries and tourist attractions along with being close to Somerset if you wat to venture there. Fortunately, both my husband and I are not constantly on smartphones so the lack of mobile network coverage was mot a problem and there is the bonus of having use of wifi and a smart tv. I don't think anyone will be disappointed after staying at The Nest at the Roundhouse and will want to visit again in the future.

  • "The interior of the house is great and as described."

The owners are very nice. The amenities and availability of films, music, access to Netflix makes the evenings at the cottage even more comfortable. However, this house is really next to a road where you can hear every car going by during the day and at night, so unfortunately not a very comfortable sleep ... The patio is quite small and next to garages, so even to enjoy the afternoon sun you are next to the garage and next to a busy road.

We are very sorry your sleep was disturbed during your stay at the Nest on August Bank Holiday weekend. Our local B road has an 18 ton limit and is usually quiet, but that weekend was very busy. Traffic heading for the west country and cutting through to avoid the hold-ups on the A303 at Stonehenge, on top of that a diversion through the village was in place due to roadworks on the A36, which was unfortunate but beyond our control. We have taken your remarks about the patio on board. Property Owner

The property

Warminster 8 miles.

Hidden deep within the Wiltshire countryside in the conservation area of the picturesque village of Chitterne you will find the pet-friendly Nest.

A full of character converted detached stone and brick stable/hayloft, set in the grounds of the owner’s 17th century listed house on the edge of the village.

With its old stable door, exposed beams and a modern kitchen extension, and its setting adjacent to rolling fields and farm tracks, the Nest provides a perfect retreat and a base for exploration of the area.

After a day of exploring relax in the cosy sitting room and unwind as you watch a movie on the TV.

Whip up a delicious meal in the chic grey and copper fully fitted kitchen/diner on the contemporary electric hob and oven, and enjoy at the pine dining table.

Step out onto the patio to embrace the fresh clean Wiltshire air, enjoy the lush green setting and allow yourself to unwind.

In the evening be amazed by the sunsets and the huge star-studded night skies.

Venture up the staircase and retire to the bright and airy king-sized bedroom, beautifully decorated with white furnishings and complemented by a stylish grey wall to floor tiled en-suite shower room.

From the Nest the walker, rider, cyclist, naturalist or historian can access large tracts of uncultivated chalkland on the many ancient tracks, by-ways, bridle paths and footpaths.

Spend your days exploring the magnificent countryside of the Salisbury Plain, the largest uncultivated area of chalkland in Europe thanks to over 100 years of military ownership and use.

Wander the many chalk tracks and experience the huge skies, the feeling of space, the uninterrupted views for mile after mile of rolling downs.

The Salisbury Plain is an area rich in archaeological heritage, home to rare butterflies, wild flowers, birds and many historical monuments.

The land is peppered with old burial mounds, romano/british villages, boundary ditches, field systems and hill forts and criss-crossed with ancient trackways, and drove roads used for thousands of years by our ancestors.

Immerse yourself further in the ancient past of this area by visiting Stonehenge, only 7.5 miles away and associated sites at Woodhenge and Durrington Walls.

Follow it up by visiting the even older stone circle at Avebury.

Take a trip to Old Sarum iron age fort, forerunner of the medieval city of Salisbury, a few miles away.

Visit awe-inspiring Salisbury Cathedral in its beautiful cathedral-close setting.

Take a look inside some of Salisbury’s original timber-framed old buildings such as the Haunch of Venison pub, the foyer at the Odeon Cinema and the outdoor shop in Queen Street where medieval interiors have been preserved.

Other interesting architecture nearby can be found at Longleat House set in glorious surroundings, with its Deer Park, Safari Park and Hedge Maze or Stourhead with wonderful landscaped gardens.

Take a trip further afield to visit the Roman Baths, Jane Austen Centre and Costume Museum at Bath.

Experience the very best that Wiltshire has to offer with an escape to The Nest at the Round House.
