  • "The farmhouse was large, comfortable and clean."

Absolutely everything you could wish for in the lovely big kitchen/diner, ( and we are a group who cook) the two sitting rooms also large enough to accommodate 9 of us comfortably, very cosy and warm. Bedrooms and bathrooms all perfect. The owners were friendly and helpful but not intrusive. The surrounding area was gorgeous and we were very lucky to have a sunny week. Also could do great walks straight from the house. Would come again and would highly recommend it.

Very well equipped, peaceful surroundings and easy access to beaches etc

  • "Owners extremely helpful and pleasant."

    Mr CordnerJul 2021

  • "Martes farmhouse was voted by the family (3 generations) as the best rented property we have stayed in."

Could not fault the way it was equipped- plenty of everything & a really welcoming host, Seb, who greeted us & our 4 year old grandchild & immediately introduced her to the chickens & pigs! As we were very fortunate with the weather, we were in the front or back garden most of the time we were not out & about & used the BBQ most nights. Have already recommended it to several friends, which I believe says it all.

  • "A great week away in the rural setting of Marles Farm was just what the 4 generations of my family were hoping for and that is exactly what we got - a great week of family fun, in a beautiful setting and in a well-equipped home from home."

Many thanks to our wonderful hosts. Would we return? Yes in a heart beat.

    Mrs BramwellJun 2021

    Mrs AshmoreJun 2021

  • "We had a brilliant time and absolutely loved the kitchen."

The kids loved every minute in the garden. Can’t wait to book our next holiday here. Also very welcoming owners.

    Miss MalyonMay 2021

  • "The whole group were impressed with the house and facilities."

The only improvement we could suggest Is that the oven was cleaner. The caretaker was extremely friendly and helpful. The house was fully equipped and plenty of facilities. Location was very good and close to many points of interest. We would highly recommend this property.

    Miss BarcyMay 2021

  • "Marles Farmhouse was incredible!"

So spacious and it has everything imaginable that you need for a weeks holiday! Would 100% recommend!

    Miss GlazebrookSep 2020

  • "We had a great time; the house was immaculate and very roomy and comfortable."

The garden was lovely and the whole property was situated in lovely countryside. We would have enjoyed a more dedicated games perhaps with a pool table and well as the table tennis. For a large party this would have been an added attraction.

The property

About a mile from the pretty Dorset village of Salwayash, on the edge of the beautiful Marshwood Vale, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is Marles Farmhouse.

This detached, stone-built, fabulous family home is approached along wooded lanes and bordered by rolling green fields.

Peaceful and secluded with no near neighbours, (The owner lives on-site in their converted dairy) the property was completely refurbished in 2015 to include modern comforts, which perfectly complement the original 19th century thick stone walls, beams and fireplace, to create a smart, spacious and welcoming home.

A huge, well-equipped kitchen with polished granite surface and a dining area big enough to accommodate everyone is the real heart of the home.

Stretch out in front of a cosy wood burning stove in the sitting room, or for those not so sunny days the family/games room with table football, TV/DVD/Blu-ray, and a WiFi-connected music system/iPod dock will keep everyone occupied.

Alternatively, gather the family around the piano and sing along.

Also on the ground-floor is a twin bedroom and a shower-room making this property suitable for those who are less mobile.

Staircases at either end of the house lead to the first floor and five further bedrooms, all with pretty views over the garden and fields beyond – two king size doubles with en suite shower-rooms, two twins with zip-linkable beds to 6’ doubles and a family room with adult bunks.

There are two further bathrooms on this floor to complete the living accommodation.

Outside, to the front, a wide paved terrace with picnic benches and a barbecue catches the sun all day long, whilst to the rear, the cottage garden looking over sheep-grazed fields, has an enclosed lawn with table/chairs and is a great spot for morning coffee and wildlife-watching.

A children's climbing frame/swing and an open-fronted garage with table tennis are sure to be a great hit with the younger family members.

Scenic and secluded, Marles Farmhouse is perfectly placed for exploring this popular area of Dorset.

The vibrant market town of Bridport and the stunning Dorset coast with good sandy beaches at West Bay and Charmouth are all within 10 miles.

Further afield, you can spend the day hunting for fossils along the Jurassic Coast, take a stroll along the iconic 'Cobb' at Lyme Regis or visit the seaside town of Weymouth, where you'll find a variety of water sports to try.

About the location

Bridport 4.5 miles.

The attractive market town of Bridport grew up around the River Brit, and was shaped by its extensive history of rope and net making. The long, wide streets and alleyways between the houses were once where the flax strands were twisted into rope, while today those streets are filled with an interesting variety of shops, restaurants and inns. Bridport’s market is regularly featured on the River Cottage TV programme. 2 miles south of Bridport is the dramatic Jurassic coast at West Bay, now a World Heritage Site, home to the backdrop for TV's Harbour Lights and the coastal setting for popular Broadchurch, whilst the picturesque resort of Lyme Regis is within 10 miles. A superb base for exploring wonderful West Dorset.
