  • “The holiday home is very nice and very well located.”

The main issue is the parking which is not very feasible as it is a shared yard and very tight. We parked there only one night and could not even get in the yard on arrival. It was too risky as you could get trapped easily. So we parked in the public car park close by. This was fine and quite cheap, but if this was not there this could have spoilt things. Loved it overall.

Thank you for your review and your positive feedback, we are delighted you enjoyed our apartment. The property is in the centre of Wells and properties with parking are hard to find. Our parking space is clearly marked in a dedicated area accessed through a shared service yard. We use our apartment regularly ourselves and have never experienced a problem. Occasional deliveries have meant we have had to wait a moment to two, but this is uncommon. Many thanks again for your feedback. - Sykes owner relations

About the property

Settled in the centre of England’s smallest city, Wells, is this outstanding apartment, which takes up the entire first floor of the 18th century Guard House, offering a superb base for a couple or a family to enjoy this bustling city and beyond.

Just a stone’s throw from the apartment are a plethora of fine dining restaurants, charming pubs, interesting shops and historical landmarks that are waiting to be discovered, making this the ultimate base for that long-awaited city escape or to use as a base to explore the beautiful surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The apartment building was originally built to house prisoners of war during the Napoleonic Wars in the late 1790's and early 1800's; today, it has been sympathetically restored to provide an outstanding self-catering experience to be enjoyed all year around.

Enter into the impressive entrance hall and take the stairs to find your home for the week, before you step into the double aspect open-plan living room, where rooftop views towards the renowned cathedral can be enjoyed.

Step across the engineered oak flooring and rustle up a home-cooked meal with the help of the excellent integrated appliances, including an oven and induction hob, microwave and fridge, as well as a dishwasher and a washer/dryer so that you barely have to lift a finger whilst on holiday.

Joining the space is a dining table and an inviting sitting area, where you can kick back on the sofa with a good book, admire the views or flick through the channels of the smart TV as you unwind for the evening.

Completing the apartment are two beautifully-presented bedrooms, comprising of a king-size bedroom and a twin bedroom, which features zip/link beds that can be made into a king-size bed on request, making the ideal set up for couples, friends or families.

To the rear, you will be delighted to find one allocated parking spot, so there is no need to worry about the usual stresses of parking in a city centre.

For the evenings where you do not feel like cooking, find a number of bars, cafes and restaurants resting just moments away from the front door of the property, offering something for all budgets and palettes, as well as twice weekly farmers markets so that you can pick up local ingredients to enjoy at your self-catering holiday apartment.

Whilst here, be sure to visit Wells historic buildings, including the magnificent Wells Cathedral, the moated Bishop's Palace and 14th century Vicars Close, the oldest inhabited residential street in Europe.

Wells also boasts a concert hall, theatre, cinema and holds numerous festivals throughout the year.

For those feeling more active, explore the magnificent Mendip Hills, which provides plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling.

In the Mendip Hills, you will discover the famous Cheddar Gorge; this limestone landmark is one of England's most spectacular natural sights, offering a great opportunity for walking or an epic road trip through.

For more leisurely days out, Clarks Shopping Outlet Village is a short distance away, where you can browse over 90 designer and high street shops, perfect for a spot of retail therapy.

Alternatively, journey to the majestic town of Glastonbury or to the romantic city of Bath, both promising wonderful days out.

With so much to see and do, One the Guard House is an outstanding choice to share a memorable break with your loved ones.
