Lots to see and do within a half an hour drive.

  • "The Little House is compact but very comfortable for two."

It is fully equipped with all you could need on a holiday. Attractive lawned area with patio giving extensive views over lovely countryside including a vineyard.Only 2 miles from Shaftsbury.

  • "Outstanding views were the highlight."

James, the owner was very friendly. Because it was a property for 2, the space was limited and particularly the shower room was a tight squeeze with inadequate space for personal toiletries. A receptacle to hold shower gel, shampoo, etc within the shower cabinet would be useful. There was no hanging space and only 3 hangers provided so we had to improvise, using the frame at the foot and head of the bed.

Pity no wardrobe space but did find hangers. Would stay again.

  • "'The Little House' is a tastefully furnished and well equipped property for two in a good position to explore the Shaftesbury area and Cranborne Chase."

The situation was delightfully rural with rare breed sheep in the adjacent fields and a wonderful view from the garden. We learned on our departure day that we could have accessed a footpath onto quiet roads from the garden of the adjacent farmhouse. It would have been helpful if that information had been available in the otherwise very comprehensive Visitors' Information File in the cottage. Maybe most visitors are not walkers. This seems a trivial complaint as The Little House was such a perfect place to stay and very well cared for.

Very private and quiet with great views and a private garden, and a fully equipped kitchen so you really can cook every night if you want to.

  • "Very much appreciative to have this little house while we are going through a difficult time."

The host are excellent and accommodating. The house is well equipped, clean and comfortable, the view is beautiful surrounded by mature trees. The walk up the Beacon hill is only minutes walk away, well worth the climb. The lovely back lane route, the French Mill Lane, is a great way to get to Shaftesbury on foot or on bike. Cannot ask for more.

  • "It was a bitterly cold day when we arrived, the place was like an iceberg,it took several hours to get the place warmed up."

It would have been nice if the eating had been put on before we arrived.Their are gaps round the front door where the wind blew in.It would have been useful if a curtain was there t pull across to keep the draught out.The couch was very tight for two people. However the place was immaculate, a nice touch of a bottle of milk and flowers to greet us.The instructions for the hob were not easy to follow, had a job to get the hob to work properly, perhaps that is because we are getting old and do not understand modern technology.

We are sorry to hear that you did not find the house warm enough. The heating is on an automatic timer and would have come at 4pm. Usually it only take an hour at the most to warm up. We have checked all the radiators and reset the time, everything seems to be working properly. A new larger sofa is on order. We hoped you enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

It was extremely peaceful. Everything was catered for. The only problem we had was the TV was too high and you had to look up when watching. I know previous comments were made about the bed being uncomfortable. We did not find this to be the case, we found it very comfortable. Would recommend.

So lovely to be welcomed with a vase of flowers, milk, tea and coffee. The view from the house was such a tonic after months of gloom. Little touches of comfort such as outdoor cushions and a rug made a great difference to relaxing. The sheep also kept us entertained! We had never realised that Dorset was such a lovely area, even though we didn't live that far away. Please thank the owners on our behalf and we were impressed by your efficiency too.

One of Dorset’s prettiest and most historic towns, Shaftesbury is perched on a spur of rolling green hills, and the views in all directions are without comparison. Lush green meadows, woodland glades and outstanding architecture are all within a short walk. One of the best vantage points is from Gold Hill (Ridley Scott's famous Hovis advert was filmed here) with its quaint, cobbled and very steep street. Visit the ruins of Shaftesbury Abbey (a place of great pilgrimage from the 11th century) or navigate the intricate and ancient lanes. Bath, Salisbury and Sherborne are all under an hour away, or drive through the stunning countryside of Blackmoor Vale down to the coast at Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth.
