  • "Was pleased to see that a shower had been fitted to the wall and the sofa replaced - so obviously previous comments had been taken on board."

Great location to access the area.

  • "The cottage was warm and clean in a lovely quiet spot with local walks and off road parking immediately outside."

The village shop and pub are very close by. We have done many of these holidays and we are not easily put off by previous comments, however, we found that two important issues previously mentioned by others remain unresolved. The sofa is somewhat uncomfortable and it is very low off the ground with the skirt touching the floor. Although a curtain has been installed the shower can only still be hand held as there is no wall mounting for it. The towels provided need to be the next size up. In addition it would be helpful if the step from the entrance hall into the kitchen was clearly marked. There are few other minor issues which one can live with, but addressing the above would make it a much more comfortable stay and we would certainly consider using it again as it is ideally located for touring the area.

  • "The sofa is old, past it’s best and very uncomfortable - this being replaced in the near future would be a big benefit."

The chairs for the the dining table don’t match and are too low making the eating position strange and uncomfortable (I am 6’ tall and the table was nearly at chest height). The kettle was absolutely full of limescale and needed a thorough cleaning out. As other reviews pointed out it is very overlooked with little outdoor space, however, it’s good value for money and the cottage is in an ideal location as a base for exploring the area which has lots to offer. It is in a quiet lane with walks to the lovely village and countryside right outside the door.

  • "Cd do with better pictures, nicer/cheerier than it looks;) Stairs are in a cupboard as cottage, quite steep but manageable."

V large bedroom, not a dreadful mattress but cd be a bit better. Great area for a base in Dorset. Fantastic village shop. Lounge comfy. Bathroom downstairs FYI. Courtyard is small but gets afternoon sun. Overlooked by neighbours window -didn’t bother us but might others. Secure if your dog doesn’t leap over waist high walls-there was one section that wasn’t fence so ours needed supervision but still perfectly adequate. I liked it overall and thought it was good value. Sykes and Owner sorted out issue with door lock the same day no fuss so grateful for that.

  • "Nicely decorated cottage."

Quiet and well situated for local attractions. Very steep, tight staircase to bedroom would not suit anyone with mobility problems. Shame the bathroom is at the far end of the cottage and downstairs. Bathroom needs updating as no proper shower only a hand held one attached to the taps.

  • "Bathroom needs redecorating, peeling paint on walls."

Shower needs holder so you can shower in bath. Front and back door locks need adjusting and oiling. Very fiddly to unlock and lock. Garden/patio. - the owner had a note on the coffee table stating gardener and window cleaner would come in the week. The gardener did not come because we suspect there is no gardening to do. The hanging baskets and pots had plastic flowers in them! The patio is lifeless and soleless. The furniture very well used and worn.

  • "Nice little cottage in a lovely little village."

Very close to Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. Also so many other places only a few miles away.

  • "We were very disappointed in the cleanliness of this property it smelt musty as soon as we walked in there was thick dust around the washing machine /food on cutlery/dirty marks on kitchen draws and walls."

It was very basically furnished with the bare minimum of everything provided. It was advertised as a romantic retreat but the tiny garden was overlooked by next doors window with cars parked directly outside front room window, giving very little privacy inside the property. We have always had very good experiences with Sykes Cottages in the past.we would not recommend this property.
