  • "The cottage was easy to find, absolutely as described, and very comfortable."

Wyke Regis does not have many amenities or attractions, but we were five minutes' walk from a bus stop to Weymouth and equally close to the local Tesco store. It was a good base for trips around the area. The interior of the cottage was clean and cosy. We would have appreciated the provision of a few basics in the kitchen, e.g. salt and pepper; however, it was helpful to have dishwasher tablets and other cleaning substances. We would also have appreciated some provision for recycling waste; the instructions were to bag all of our waste in an exterior bin. We walked all over the area on our last morning trying to find public recycling facilities for paper, plastic, cans and glass and eventually found some near the shops. It would be helpful if the owner allowed guests to use recycling bins on the property. There was one unfortunate oversight in the cleaning of the property: someone had left a smashed perfume bottle near the front door, and as a result chunks of broken glass were scattered over part of the front garden. My children came within an ace of cutting themselves but fortunately we spotted and removed the glass in time.

  • "The cottage is comfortable, stylish, very well appointed and cosy."

The only issues we had were a couple of items which would have made the kitchen equipment perfect - a cafetière, some pint glasses and flutes, and outdoor storage for the seat cushions - it was a bit of a squeeze to get them in the cupboard. We also had a problem with one of the throws on the bed - it was covered in hair, a lot of which ended up on the bed linen itself, this was unpleasant so the throws need to be checked as part of the cleaning activity. A lovely holiday in a fab location and a great cottage.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay here."

The property was spotless, exactly as described. Location was ideal, just a few minutes from the main town. Easy access to main roads further afield. Local shops and amenities were close by. The only issue we would raise is the lack of parking, especially in arrival and departure day did make it difficult to unload and pack the car. However if we were inclined to visit the same area twice, we would happily stay again.

  • "Lovely cottage that is beautifully decorated and Comfortable."

All of the necessary kitchen bits and bobs that you will need. The only problem that we found was the parking ! There is little to NONE! It is a very tight road we tried to park conscientiously but had a note left on the car twice in two different locations saying that it was residential parking. Location was good although there were no restaurants in easy walking distance but the taxis into Weymouth were very reasonable.

  • "Excellent location near enough to Weymouth but just far enough from the crowds."

Local pub (Fat Badger) very nice and only 5 mins walk. Wyke itself is lovely and quiet; couple of local shops, easy to find on-street parking.

About the location

Weymouth 2 miles; Dorchester 9 miles.

Wyke Regis is a village on the south western side of Weymouth that sits on the northern edges of Portland Harbour and reaches as far as the back of Chesil beach and The Fleet, just two miles from the centre of Weymouth. There are local shops, cafés and restaurants including the famous Crab House café, with it’s own oyster beds on the doorstep. The National Sailing School, an Olympic legacy, offers a wide variety of water sports and is just two miles away on the edge of Portland Harbour. The Fleet Lagoon that runs between Wyke Regis and Chesil beach is an important area for wildlife and there are many species of birds to be seen in the area, whilst Chesil beach is also a renowned spot for fishing. The Fleet is probably most famous for being the testing ground for Barnes Wallis’s bouncing bomb, immortalised in the film the Dam Busters. Wyke Regis is the perfect location from which to explore many of Dorset’s most iconic locations on the Jurassic Coast.
