  • "This cottage was perfect and ideally situated."

    We had a very slight problem with the heating and the owner replied and acted immediately. We had one teeny criticism - for what was an expensive stay for us, we’d have expected enough dishwasher tabs for one week. Most s/c places now do the. The kitchen was well equipped otherwise and the welcome basket appreciated. The info on the cottage explained well about the outdoor area being up a lot of steps but a gate in the alley would make it less risky for children who could run out on to the street.

    Well equipped, very clean, very comfortable. We liked the decor and furnishings. You could tell that a lot of thought and effort has gone into this cottage. Good location for Kirkcudbright and surrounding areas. Good local shops and eateries. The people of the town were friendly and very welcoming.

  • "Haven cottage was comfortable well equipped and spotless."

    Conveniently close to town but easy parking and a nice outside terraced are to rear of cottage which was a nice sun trap to sit read relax and enjoy morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. Thoughtful welcome pack from the hosts, and great communication with James when we needed anything. Highly recommend.

    Quiet location, loads of kitchen kit, a nice touch to leave dishwasher and washing machine tablets as we always forget. Comfy linens, decent shower, plenty of hot water. We will return.

    An ideal base for a New Year break, park your car and relax. A few minutes walk to good local shops,butcher and fabulous cheese shop. Well equipped kitchen to cook ,your foodie purchases. Excellent walks along the river and around the town. Kirkcudbright Art Gallery worth a visit. Thoughtful welcome gift to greet you ,prosecco and biscuits.

  • "I stayed here for a week for a cycling holiday with my husband and sister-in-law."

    The cottage is extremely comfortable and well equipped, one of the best we've had. The weather was cold, but the pre-set central heating kept us warm. Very comfortable beds, great kitchen equipment, no problem making full meals. Plenty of free parking in the street. Very quiet. There is a clothes airer, and we also hung washing out in the garden. One thing, if you bring a bike, the (excellent) lockable storage area is down a vennel where the wheelie bins are kept. It was a squeeze to take the bikes in and out, and if you have very wide handlebars you'd struggle. We loved Kirkcudbright and the surrounding countryside and would definitely return to this accommodation.

    Lots of walks direct from the cottage,museums and Art Gallery for those wet days,no need to move car. Great area for foodies,deli with excellent selection of cheese,lovely butcher and baker. Welcome pack of prosecco and biscuits,much appreciated. Will be returning again.

The property

Haven Cottage is a charming two storey terraced house, resting within the Artists’ Town of Kirkcudbright and is perfectly located for exploring the breathtaking countryside and coastal scenery.

Spend time in the welcoming sitting room beside the gas stove reading or watching a film on the Smart TV, while the adjoining contemporary kitchen/dining room offers the opportunity to cook, relax and chat in a semi open-plan sociable space.

The kitchen has everything you need to cook up delicious dishes, ready to enjoy with your loved ones at the dining table for four over a celebratory bottle of fizz.

The kitchen also provides access to a convenient bike storage porch and the rear garden.

A raised seating area is accessible via a flight of steps offering an ideal spot to sit and relax.

Upstairs are two tastefully decorated bedrooms and a stylish shower room with heated towel rail.

Kirkcudbright is a busy and bustling harbour town with plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries and events taking place throughout the year.

These include historic tours of the town, Scottish nights with dancing and pipe bands, an Arts and Crafts Trail, Food Festival, Car Rally and the Floodlit Tattoo.

For the more energetic, there are some excellent walking and cycling routes on the doorstep and the town also has a swimming pool and golf course.

Alternatively enjoy a day at the beach or explore The Galloway Hills and Forest Park, where you can spot the local wildlife and enjoy the superb views.

Further afield you can visit the bustling town of Dumfries, home to the Dumfries Museum, Robert Burns House, the Robert Burns Centre, and the Michelin Star restaurant 1610.

The historic and picturesque town of Kirkcudbright sits on the banks of the River Dee on the north Solway coast. Established as a Royal Burgh in 1455 this small port town has always been supported by a busy fishing trade and is home to a blue flag marina. Behind this working harbour, its wide streets and pastel-coloured houses, a mix of Georgian and Victorian town houses make for a very attractive town centre. Particular places of interest are the Tolbooth Museum, Broughton House and Gardens (National Trust for Scotland), the Stewartry Museum, MacLellan's Castle, and the newly refurbished town Art Gallery. Kirkcudbright is also known as the 'Artists' Town'. From the 1870s onwards the town has both produced and attracted a wide range of talented artists and crafts people, and there is a fine collection of art galleries and arts and crafts shops. If you want your holiday to include some breaks from cooking you will find plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from, including the historic Selkirk Arms Hotel, and, near the harbour, Throughout the summer the town organises a wide range of activities including the four day Arts and Crafts Trail, four-day Jazz Festival, a weekly Scottish night with pipe band and dancing (especially for children), weekly town tours, farmers markets, a vintage car rally... the list is endless. Visitors can also use the town's swimming pool, bowling club, golf club and tennis courts. Further afield there is the Galloway Activity Centre on beautiful Loch Ken, which offers a range of water sports, or perhaps best of all are the opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, or just driving along the coasts and in the hills and valleys in some of Scotland's loveliest unspoilt scenery.
