"The cottage was in a good location lots to do and see."
For us we felt it was fine for two people to share but not ideal for more. The seating in the lounge was not very comfortable and inadequate for four. Also we found the stairs a bit of a problem.
"Another lovely stay at Dutch Cottage."
Great cottage and location. We'll be back (again!).
"The property is well located for the town and exploring the area."
However the property has been use and shows the wear and tear. The description of the garden was inaccurate being overgrown and unkempt with lite space for the garden furniture which was very poor. Now understand why no photos of rear garden.
"We had a lovely time at Dutch Cottage."
It's in a great part of town (The Dutch Quarter) and is very near all the main attractions. Castle Park is beautiful and literally at the end of the road. The remains of a Roman theatre are around the corner. The cottage itself is cosy, interesting and very well maintained. We loved it so much it was difficult to leave it in order to go out! Highly recommended.
"We had another lovely stay at the cottage."
So Central to the town and places of History, especially if you are interested in Roman and local. We will return to Dutch Cottage .
"A comfortable cottage with plenty of useful items; lots of towels, extra bed linen etc."
Milk & tea / coffee was helpful. Good instruction for key safe and parking. The only real negative was that the cottage was very cold! No sign of the thermostat and NO heating from the radiators. The hot water was also luke warm, making showering horrid. We ended up using the electric fan heater in the lounge - which was probably VERY expensive to run. It would have been more economical for the radiators to come on twice a day for an hour! That said, it was a lovely stay; nice area, handy for the town and near the park.
"Amazing location and a good amount of space."
easy check in and well equipped clean property I was surprised that the front bedroom was set up as twin beds as we had not requested it. stairs very steep but we were forewarned in the description. easy parking with the permit.
"Very clean property, all the facilities you would need including bikes."
The only down side is the stairs are a bit steep, which we were aware off, so not good if you have mobility issues. In a great location to explore Colchester, of which I know well and beyond, and the Castle Park on your doorstep.
"63 northgate street-the property needs a really good clean, floors in the bathrooms the cooker and the baking trays we soaked all afternoon so they were fit for use."
along with the cruset pans, the windows inside and out also dirty and the towels are like cardboard. sheets not ironed.floors matts, 3 in all with big marks on them.the lounge furniture underneath the cushions was dirty and had not been cleaned since the last rental. the garden bins, behind all the bins and pathway needs a good sweep and washdown, and an open drain uck, plenty of chipped mugs and crockery, which should not be used as thats how germs spread.all crockery needs updating, and normal size wine glasses.and underneath the 2 single beds there was plastic from some clothing plus plenty of fluff.the area was good for shopping and culture, but shame about the cottage, it needs updating in all department. and how were 4 people meant to use the lounge area when there is only comfortable seating for 3 !!!. i await a reasonable response to my comments.
I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed in so many aspects of the cottage. I have since redecorated and done a deep clean throughout the property. At between £50 and £75 a night the cottage is incredibly good value for the area and whilst it is not a 5* hotel feedback is normally that it is clean, comfortable and very well equipped. Therefore had I known about these issues during your stay I would have been very keen to resolve them immediately. Property Owner
"A very nice, cosy and with love furnished accomodation, very well equipped, especially the kitchen and we enjoyed the two bathrooms."
Well situated in the middle of the citiy of Colchester, although very quiet. As the owner kindly provided a parking license parking was no problem. We spent a lovely holiday there.
"This lovely well appointed cottage is very central."
A few minutes walk to the town, castle, museums ect .If you are interested in Roman History, this is the place to stay and visit We are returning next year.Already booked.
"The location is particularly good."
Quiet although it's 3 mins walk into town and being right next to a beautiful park was icing on the cake. There are no views. In fact the derelict building opposite the front of the house is an eye sore but with the rest of the area being so lovely and interesting and all the conveniences on hand, that was not a problem at all
"Although it says suitable for 4 adults I think this would be stretching it, ok for 2 adults and 2 children maybe."
"We had a lovely stay before Christmas."
Cosy and close to shopping...... any other year I’m sure there would be plenty to do but for covid 2020 it was a great quiet break.
"Brilliant, warm and cosy cottage that was perfect for a weeks staycation."
Had all the amenities we’d need and more, even offering the use of bikes in the garage and a welcome pack of tea, coffee and milk. Lovely decoration, was like a home from home and great location for the town centre. Could not recommend it highly enough! The only consideration is very steep stairs which may be a challenge for the less sure footed but fine for most.
"The last time I looked I had not been recredited the amount that was incorrectly taken off my cc."
Parking was tricky - more information please in case the road outside the house is full (which it nearly always is)
"Lovely little holiday cottage, in easy reach of all amenities Colchester has to offer with the bonus of being 30 minutes from lots of seaside destinations."
"Lovely cottage well stocked with pots and pans etc Good access to the park, shops and premier inn where parents staying."
Good access with 3 good steps in and down stairs toilet. However stairs very steep, not suitable for those not good on feet or needing to carry small children, recommend slippers with good grip.
"Was just perfect very comfy I stayed hear as my sun lives in Colchester so it was very handy."
The park is just down the street you are also near the town the only down fall was it was a bit of a problem getting parked in the street near the house and had to park a distance away.
"Lovely house in great location for town and the local park- ideal with a toddler we had a lovely time"
"The cottage was as described online."
The accommodation was comfortable and we had easy access to the town centre for shopping, cinema, arts and also bus and rail transport. The street was very quiet both by day and night. The information about the up keep of house was clear and easy to find and it was nice that there were a range of leaflets about tourist events. Finding the keys was no problem.
"Near to town center with buses and shops."
Easy reach of train station.

"Beautiful house in a great location, well equipped kitchen and pleasant garden with outdoor seating."
Comfortable beds and welcome pack of milk and goodies are a nice touch, I would recommend this cottage to anyone who wishes to explore Colchester and surrounds - only a 55 minute train ride away from London, yet a short car journey to the Essex coast.
