  • "Easy to book, clear instructions, 36 Wilkin Place was modern, well presented property with four bedrooms and two bath/shower rooms and a downstairs loo as well."

Kitchen well equipped with gas hob and electric oven. Hot tub was a treat and instructions were very clear (we have never used one before). Two small cars fitted on the driveway together which was great for us. Tiptree is in walking distance so we went to have a look round the jam museum and had a lovely light lunch there (wish we had had room for cakes afterwards!). Tiptree Heath is a very short drive away and great for a walk too and we also visited Markshall Estate for a walk round the winter gardens/arboretum. All in all a very nice weekend thank you.

About the location

Messing 2.1 miles; Maldon 7.7 miles; Colchester 10.6 miles

Settled in the beautiful borough of Colchester, is the village of Tiptree, renowned for its production of jam, which began in 1864. The jam making is run by a family business, Wilkin and Sons, where they use the village name to brand the jam and a factory with a museum can be found in the village for a fascinating insight into the process. Due to the development in the area, Tiptree was a contender for the 'largest village in England'. The Tiptree Tea Rooms is another attraction, with a quirky interior and serving the famed jam, amongst other delicious home-made lunches. The small hamlet of Tiptree Heath can be found to the south of the village, which hosts a huge heathland, as well as a 25-hectare nature reserve, which offers a biological Site of Special Scientific Interest. This region is home to a wealth of attractions including Colchester Zoo, housing a variety of unique species, Coggeshall Museum to soak in the local history and the Museum Of Power in Langford for a riveting collection of machinery.
