  • "Caenn a Loch cottage is without doubt one of the best cottages we have ever stayed at."

From entering the cottage you are immediately wrapped up in the warmth and the very high standards throughout. You are drawn to the 2 welcome hampers (one being in the fridge) and then are amazed at the quality throughout. The cottage has underfloor heating (which we were grateful for) as well as being superbly stocked with everything you might need. The ice machine was a bonus for our Gs and Ts! The beds are very comfortable and all the bathrooms furnished to a very high standard. The owner Julie, is very attentive as responds immediately to any queries you may have. The views are stunning and although the weather was inclement during our stay just watching the changing colours on the landscape from the comfort of the lounge made it much more bearable. I guarantee that if you stay here you will not be sorry!!

  • "Ceann an Loch provides an exceptional experience and we could not have asked for more."

It is a superbly equipped, luxury property, in a stunning location with the most generous host we have ever encountered. We simply could not have asked for a more idyllic place in which to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary and it was a real struggle to leave at the end of the week. We cannot recommend Ceann an Loch more highly as an outstanding base for exploring the wonderful range of sights, sounds and foodie delights Lewis and Harris affords, or for just enjoying the views and the many species of birds, and fish jumping, from the comfort of the rooms and garden. This was certainly a haven to which we shall return and we are most grateful to Julie for her kindnesses.

  • "What a special property, set against the loch and conveniently in the middle of the island."

The property and facilities are five star and deserve the tag of 'luxury'. Our welcome hamper of local produce was a nice surprise and made us feel special. The local wildlife is literally at your doorstep, with birds a plenty and a Stag visiting on three occasions.

  • "What an extremely well-thought-out house."

Every bit of detail has been well considered. For example, the more than generous welcome basket, temperature control of each room, super king beds, super-soft bedding, open-plan kitchen diner and bean to cup coffee maker. What a wonderful view of the loch through front windows and waking up to the dawn chorus of cuckoo, arctic tern or oyster catcher! The surrounding hills produced exceptional views of white-tailed and golden eagle. We would highly recommend staying here at any time of year. Although we stayed in late May and the weather was warm, it is easy to imagine how cosy this property will be with the wood burner in much colder weather. Thank you to the owners. Everything was much appreciated.

. The photos don’t do it justice. One of the loveliest places I’ve ever stayed. Julia and Donnie were fantastic hosts. Available if needed and left a wonderful welcome pack. The house is perfectly placed for exploring all of Lewis and Harris due to its central position on the Island. Fabulous sunrises over the loch every morning. Beds so comfortable for a rested nights sleep. Just fantastic. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit Lewis and Harris.

  • "The property is much bigger than the name 'cottage ' suggests ."

It is luxury accomodation with every amenity you could think of and in a superb location especially for access to Harris. There was a very generous welcome pack so you would be fine if you had no chance to pick up groceries before arrival. It is worth getting up early to see the sunrise over the loch. Hope we will get a chance to return again sometime. Joanne

Enjoying a wonderfully peaceful setting in South Lochs on the Isle of Lewis is this charming single-storey holiday lodge, Ceann an Loch Cottage.

Perfect for families and couples travelling together, the cottage is presented to an extremely high standard.

It might look attractively rustic from the outside but on the inside, it offers all the home comforts any discerning traveller would want.

The light and airy open-plan living space sets the tone for the rest of the property with an inviting sitting area forming the focal point of the room.

The seating is arranged to maximise the beautiful views from the cottage outside and a woodburning stove creates an attractive centrepiece to the space, perfect for curling up and warming up after a day of adventures.

If it’s a warm evening then you can throw open the French doors and recline on the decking area and soak up the views while enjoying your favourite tipple.

Or why not fire up the barbecue and enjoy dinner alfresco?

The decking is also the best place to watch the sun come up over Loch Erisort or watch it set behind the Harris hills and if you keep an eye out, you might even get to see some wild deer meandering over the fields.

The extensive fully-fitted kitchen is the ideal place for cooking up a storm and while the chef prepares a sumptuous meal you can keep them company at the breakfast bar.

Step out of the kitchen into the welcoming dining area which is again positioned to make the most of the stunning views out of the window.

The beauty of the accommodation being all on one level means there isn’t far to stagger to bed and both super king-size bedrooms have their own en-suite wet rooms and there is a family bathroom which even has a wall-mounted TV so you needn’t miss your favourite telly while you’re having a soak!

Ceann an Loch cottage is the perfect base for exploring the delights of the Isle of Lewis and there are activities to suit everyone’s age, budget and taste.

Look out for otters on Loch Erisort or go for a refreshing hike whilst taking in the sublime panoramic views.

A short drive away is the bustling town of Tarbert, home of Harris Tweed and a number of popular eateries with plenty of wild beach walks, watersports and even the North Harris Eagle Observatory, all not far from here.

Stornoway is also only a short distance by car and is a great base from which to explore neighbouring islands and is the gateway to discovering even more of the wonders of the Outer Hebrides.

For a holiday to remember, Ceann an Loch Cottage ticks all the boxes.

About the location

BALALLAN

Kershader 5.4 miles.

Balallan meaning Allan's Town, is a crofting township on Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. Balallan is within the parish of Lochs. The township is the longest village, being four miles in Lewis, and also in northern Scotland. Straggled along the head of a long sea loch between Arivruach and Laxay, it formed due to a mixture of crofting along the loch shore and fishing. It sits at the head of Loch Erisort. Whether you are visiting the island to see the varied wildlife, the numerous historic sites, or just to get away from it all, you will never be far from scenic surroundings. Beautiful, remote and peaceful, the views are right on your doorstep. Also known as the Outer Hebrides, the Western Isles form a 130 miles arc running from north to south off the north-western coast of Scotland. Taken from north to south they include Lewis, North and South Harris, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra.
