The living room was spacious and the kitchen was well equipped. However, to earn four Sykes ticks and to justify the cost, it needs some TLC. The bathroom fittings need fixing - one completely unattached toilet seat and one toilet that wasn’t attached to the floor is not acceptable, plus the towel rails and loo roll holders were loose; towels on the wrong side of too many washes; hot water setting a little low for a decent bath; the double rooms are a little small and cramped; and six people in this cottage would have felt very cramped. Personally I would have traded some of the space in the double rooms for a king size bed. And a 13.5 tog duvet in May is way too hot for comfortable sleeping. Plockton is often described as the Jewel in the Highlands due to its charming seaside location, pretty cottages and surprising tropical atmosphere, caused by the mild climate, with palm trees thriving along the seafront. The sheltered waters of Plockton attract small yachts throughout the year and the village caters well for its visitors with a selection of quality cafes and pubs all looking out across the bay. There’s also a small general store for convenience alongside the few gift and craft shops, whilst the active village community host events and art exhibitions throughout the year. Plockton is a popular tourist resort due, in no small part, to the TV series Hamish Macbeth, which was filmed there, but also because of its charm and the friendly ambience it offers, which sees tourists return year after year.
