“We arrived to find the house was in an incredible location with direct view of Loch Broom and the mountains behind.”
The house has two seating areas outside, a bench and a table, which can be used at different times of day, depending on wind and sun. We spend several hours every day just sitting out on that bench outside the house (which freakishly never seems to be in the wind or rain), just looking at the view, the sea, watching out for dolphins and seals, because it was just so incredibly peaceful and beautiful. In our views were also the newborn lambs, which were a joy to see every day. Our dog unfortunately likes sheep a little too much, so we kept her on the lead a lot of the time, but it wasn't really a problem, because she was just sleeping in the sun whilst we were sitting on the bench.
It was a great place to travel from, and we went up An Teallach, had a walk down to the Shenavall bothy and had very lovely to Loch na Sealga. The beaches in the area are also incredible, although it pays off to keep an eye on the waterline from the house (which is useful if you don't have a newspaper with the tide times, because especially the Gruinard Bay beach shrinks quite a bit during high tide, but is still beautiful. We saw a fairly big group of seals (about 8) there coming in with the tide on our last day and it was fantastic. Another lovely beach is just a little further down the road in Mellon Udrigle, which has sand that's even more white than Gruinard beach.
As for the house, it has everything, absolutely everything you could want. We even baked a cake when we were there, not fully expecting to find cake tins. The dishwasher was heaven-sent, especially after long hikes and was much appreciated. In the living room there was some wood already there to be used in the stove, which is lovely in the evenings. Honestly, we could not recommend a nicer house for a relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings in perfect comfort, and we will definitely come back.
