  • "We had an amazing week at Cuir na Bhoir, the cottage had everything we needed and the location was so beautiful and being only a few dozen steps away from what felt like our own beach made it perfect…the weather even changed from gale force winds and raining on the Saturday to sunny and blue skies most of the week."

Probably the best weeks holiday we have ever had. 10/10

  • "Great location near the beach."

Loved the cottage and everything as expected. Central to all the Southern Isles. Found everything we needed in the property except a bread bin which maybe I couldn’t find. Minor point - I think the instructions in the blue folder could be updated to reflect us no longer being in Covid restrictions. All in all everything excellent.

  • "Not many times does a property exceed expectations, but this was one of them."

Couldn’t fault anything. The location was perfect with a secure garden for the dogs. The beach a very short distance across the machair. The locals were very friendly. You will need to book places to eat in the evening as few and far between. If I am being extremely fussy I would say a tumble dryer would have been helpful. Already recommended it to friends and hope to be back one day.

  • "Lovely cottage in prime location big enough for two."

Only a step away from a beach and surrounded by stunning views. Everything we needed was supplied, I think the heating controls had been tampered with, so had to adopt manual control during the colder days if necessary. The addition of a tumble dryer would be perfect, but obviously the running cost is a consideration. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking to stay on Uist.

  • "This is a beautifully converted very clean small cottage with everything you need, and nowhere is that far so a good location."

The only downsides are the living room/kitchen/diner space is inevitably small & whilst they have designed it to make vest use of the space it was tricky using the oven & getting round the chairs. Also it was unfortunately quite smelly outside from seaweed on the beach but that was possibly the weather. There was a much nicer beach a few minutes drive around headland. Great to have washing machine & freezer in shed. thank you

  • "This is a beautiful little cottage in the most stunning location."

A deserted beach and sandy strand are one minute away. The cottage is very comfortable with lots of sitting out space to watch the sheep, rabbits and birds. It’s also very well located for exploring up to North Uist and south to Eriskay. 45 mins from Lochboisdale ferry. Two grocery shops are ten minutes away. We loved our stay - the two days of blistering sunshine were a gift!

  • "We had a wonderful stay in this pretty cottage."

It is situated right on the beach and in the middle of the machair so wildlife is all around. Facilities are great, including a large shower. Very dog friendly. Well positioned to visit both north and south Uist and Benbecula. Would highly recommend.

  • "A darling vernacular house, next door to a beach and at the end of a road so no passing traffic."

Set in a beautiful position with friendly neighbours who came by for a chat and offered fish for supper... Larks and curlews calling all day and the wild flowers were magnificent. A very special place to stay for wild life and peace and quiet.

  • "A beautiful, tranquil, secluded retreat from the world!"

Loved walking the dog on the beach every morning and coming back to have coffee outside and just gaze at the sea. Night times were very special and we saw the Northern Lights from the cottage. Cosy, homely cottage which we loved.

  • "We did leave a few words in the visitors book to the effect that our holiday was truly special but I'm happy to add now that the cottage was simply perfect particularly as Mrs MacPhee allowed us to keep our horses in her field immediately outside!"

  • "We had the most wonderful stay at Cuir-Na-Bhoir and struggled to leave it to return home."

It's a lovely cosy cottage with everything you could need and so peaceful. The sunsets & the sunrises were amazing and our early morning walks along the beach & occasional early swims no words can describe. The Uists are truly heaven on earth.

  • "This is a beautiful property in a stunning location very central to explore the Islands and for provisions."

The property has a beautifully kept and secure garden which was perfect with a dog. I loved the sense of history and was lucky enough to meet the housekeeper who had lived on the croft as a child so she added to the information already in the cottage about its history which I found really interesting. The cottage was lovely and warm and as the weather was on one day pretty extreme that was a godsend. The Kitchen could be better equipped and there were some minor maintenance issues which I reported both to you and the housekeeper which hopefully will be addressed for future guests. In particular I would have liked to have had a couple more ovenproof dishes and at least one non stick pan. I find most holiday cottages do not provide the latter but I would find it useful as I do like to cook for myself and I ate out more than I planned because the kitchen was a bit basic. The information pack on the cottage and on activities in the area was very good. The only thing that wasn't clear was whether guests had access to the washing machine which was in the shed and as such I didn't use it. If it is part of the facilities would have been good to know. Aside from these issues I had a lovely time in the cottage and it was a comfortable and cosy place to return to after a day walking in rather unfriendly weather. I am sure had I been there earlier in the summer when the weather had been so settled I would probably have thought I was in heaven and not ventured beyond the glorious beach.
