  • "We had a lovely few days here whilst on our touring holiday."

This cottage is very spacious, clean and comfortable with spectacular views. Have no negatives about it. There is a well stocked shop near the harbour in kinlochbervie and a petrol pump down the road. Saw a herd of about 15 deer at dusk on the hill behind the cottage.

  • "Great views, great location - however the house overall has an unfinished/basic feel (built 2014)."

In need of updating settees, mattresses, bucket chair has a wobbly arm. Whether due to C19 there are no 'extras' ie dvd/dvds, books, games, rugs, cushions - even coasters. There is Netflix and Prime but the picture was constantly breaking up when I was there (2nd tv in main bedroom). Excellent kitchen and underfloor heating but it does take a while to fire up if not used (never used the log burner). Garden is poor and an eyesore tbh. It has decking for the summer but is surrounded by large jagged chips totally unsuitable for my dog and not easy to walk on if elderly - there is a ramp up to front door but there is no way a wheelchair could be pushed on the chips. Enjoyed the stay as was out walking most of the time but the house could easily be improved and feel less stark.

  • "We had such a lovely relaxing time at Mountain View."

The whole area is just stunning and the cottage allowed us to enjoy it fully. It is really well furnished and equipped and really warm and cosy - we visited during the week of Storm Dudley and Storm Eunice but there was not even a draught coming in. We would highly recommend this property and look forward to visiting again in the future.

  • "The house was nice and comfortable."

However , there are a few minor comments that I think could improve the experience. Being February the nights are dark and the lounge felt dark. One lamp was in a corner but the room was not good for reading. A second bright lamp would be an advantage. A red cushion or such would make the room “feel” warmer . We had taken box-sets but there was no dvd player although it said there was. Netflix asked for us to sign up …strange to have to pay up when there for a short week- it’s not something I’ve used Kitchen- never did get microwave to work and couldn’t find instructions. Otherwise well-stocked. Back door light- only stayed on for 10 seconds before going out- a bit of a shock first time when I was out with the dog then plunged into darkness. En-suite - icy cold from floor and draughty window ( underfloor heating elsewhere was pleasant ). Stepping out shower to icy cold floor and cold towels was rather unpleasant! A heated towel-rail would make such a difference , also for helping dry towels from previous shower. It was first time in years I’ve not found a hair- dryer anywhere so had soaking hair taking ages to dry- in winter. Apart from a heated towel-rail nothing would be expensive to sort but would make a very welcome difference.

Much needed by all of us. The cottage was delightful. Only thing not so great was that the wind was so ferocious we didn't get up so many hills but we had some lovely walks. I did leave my favourite knife there and won't be passing any time soon to get it back but apart from that, nothing much else to say.

  • "Once again enjoyed Mountain View, despite the rain which wiped out 1 day as it was so bad."

This bungalow is in a wonderful position overlooking both the coastline and the mountain range. With good big windows it is a bright modern property with practically everything you would need for your stay. The garden area is spacious and ideal for your 4 legged friend to run around in and well enclosed with a border fence and gate. The property has 2 x modern bathrooms, one en-suite, but what I would suggest for such nice bathrooms is heated towel rails? We have stayed in numerous cottages over the last 20 years in Scotland of which all have heated towel rails which are always a welcome addition to ensure a nice warm towel each day. This is only a small constructive point I hope the owners take on board and it certainly would not prevent us from booking again which we already have done for early in 2022. Highly recommend the property

A note "Just before the telephone mast" would help. Superb cottage in a brilliant situation. Very well equipped, caretakers very helpful sorting out heating problem. Very comfortable bed, and great things to do and eating places in the area. Need to be prepared to drive some distance to attractions etc, but there are walks from the cottage. Several very interesting geocaches in the area!

  • "We visit this area a couple of times a year and have used many of the cottages around."

Mountain View exceeded our expectations. II is a modern, contemporary feeling bungalow. t was spotlessly clean, very cosy and had everything we needed. There was only the 2 of us and our dog, it may have felt a bit cramped if there had been 6 adults - the dining area of the kitchen is quite small. Other than that, it is perfect - we will definitely book again over other cottages. Other cottages may have more character, Mountain View was extremely comfortable and having the log burner and TV made it very comfortable for relaxing after long beach walks and days fishing.

The views of the mountains constantly changed, as did the weather! We had sunshine every day, and went to a different beach every day too. The cottage was warm, wonderful shower and the utility room with washer and tumble dryer brilliant after a day out on the beach or in all weathers. Two fridges and a freezer meant we could stock up on groceries as the local shop was a while away. Everything just opening up after lockdown, so a few good places to eat a short drive away. The pictures do not do it justice and we had an amazing time. Highly recommend!

  • "This was just an excellent property."

Everything was as described in the house and to be honest the actual view from the front is breathtaking! The property is positioned on top of a hill giving amazing views of 5 mountains and the verbal description cannot do justice to actually being there. It is a very cosy and comfortable house and the owners have given a lot of thought to customers' needs. There is everything needed in the kitchen, the lounge has an open fire ready to light and enjoy, there are several rechargeable torches, hot water at all times and the 2 showers are very good, TV & film channels, and the WIFI is excellent (this is important to me). Private parking and outdoor table and chairs. There are 3 beaches all within walking distance and another (Sandalwood) 8km walk. There was plenty local information provided and all accurate; we contacted the owner with a query and it was answered right away. We enjoyed a week and would return.

Everything inside the house was excellent with lots of space, nice wide screen TV and good spacious open plan kitchen / dining area. Whilst the garden is indeed well fenced off all round so you can release your pet to run free be aware that if you have a small dog it CAN easily get out onto the road, via through a gap in the gate (which my dog did) , fortunately the road is nice and quiet, if you have a large dog then you will have no problem. However, this is the only problem we encountered and didnt spoil the fact the dog could still run round the garden on his extra long retractable lead. The views are simply awesome from the house itself and lives up to its name. We are coming back again next year when hopefully we may have a nice vivid free summer/Autumn in 2021

We had a problem with the oven the first evening we were there, and the owner came straight out (in the middle of a storm) to help, and then returned (in the middle of another storm) the next morning to complete the repair. • "If this review is about Mountain View cottage in Oldshore Beg, then I give it five stars."

(It's not clear from this form whether I am reviewing the cottage or the service I received from Sykes Cottages.) The cottage (a recently built bungalow) is spacious, clean, comfortably appointed, and has wonderful views, because it is on its own at possibly the highest point of the village. It is also within walking distance of at least four stunning beaches (perhaps there were some I didn't find). Within walking distance there is also some world-class rock climbing to be had. The outside grounds of the cottage are a little stark. We liked the outside because of the heath that surrounds the cottage, but the garden doesn't exactly feel like a garden yet. When we were there, it was not a suitable place to allow our dog to run free outside, because the newly seeded lawn area needed to be protected. But there is a heath across the road that you can get to over a stile very near the cottage where you can exercise your dog off-lead.

  • "The cottage is further out of Kinlochbervie than we realised, this though is not a problem."

Make sure you have everything you need food wise as the Spar in the village is well stocked but it is limited and it is a fair drive anywhere else. A welcome pack would have been nice especially due to the location of the cottage. We couldn't find the remote for the DVD on a day when the weather made it too rough to go out, thanks to storm Ali, a small gripe but this means that DVD's have to be watched with the subtitles on. Underfloor heating meant that the cottage was always cosy. The kitchen is well equipped but could we request a large pair of kitchen scissors please be added? There were plenty of towels and the beds were comfortable. The sofa has been changed from the corner one in the photo's it is a recliner and fairly comfortable the arm on one side is torn underneath which will get worse with use. The owners contact details are in their info folder if you need to contact them There are lots of beaches nearby Polin beach is just down the road within walking distance of the cottage, the walk to Sandwood Bay is over rough, undulating ground it is worth it as you may even get to see otters (we did) However, the sand dunes and the hill directly behind them make it rather a slog back, make sure you have good walking shoes take your waterproofs, some water and food, we wouldn't want to do the walk in the summer. This is a well equipped cottage in a beautiful area but be prepared for ALL weathers and lots of driving

Local stores around Kinlochbervie, Scourie and Durness were great to use, had everything we needed and we were also able to arrange a call in delivery from a local fresh fish van. We had excellent fresh fish and chips takeaway from The Old School House Restaurant and Takeaway nearby. Distance to the cottage in the directions was a little confusing as not clear if from Kinlochbervie or Oldshoremore, but having said that it was readily recognisable from the pictures on the website.
