  • "A fabulous week at Alba Ben View."

The cottage is comfortable, with all the facilities you should need. The very best points are the fantastic views of Ben Nevis from the living area , the friendliness of the hosts and their local knowledge of best places to visit, and the bonus of a hot tub and sauna. So many things to see and do, especially if you like walking. Ben Nevis summit offers the most fabulous views if you get a clear day and enjoy hiking up and down mountains

  • "We had a fantastic week at Alba Ben View."

The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay, and the owners were very friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic: very peaceful with spectacular views across to the Ben Nevis range, and easy access to local attractions and many classic mountain routes. We climbed ten Munros during our stay and there are plenty more that we could have climbed nearby. We will certainly return in the future, we had a lovely time.

Perfect location for day trips out to Ben Nevis range, Loch Ness etc. The kids really enjoyed the tree swing. Really friendly owners with lots of useful information about the area and it was a lovely warm cottage. Only 1 mile to the local spa and pub down the hill. We had had clear evening and was able to see so many stars it was amazing. We will be back again soon.

  • "My recommendation score of zero is relating to Sykes cottages, rather than the actual property."

I had originally booked this cottage for another date. Something cropped up and rather than cancel the booking I asked to move the date, which was duly done. However, my original booking had a cost of over £700 for the week. The revised date had a cost of £450. Sykes cottages continued to charge me the full amount! So, had the reverse been the case, would I have only had to pay £450 for a £700 week? I doubt it! I challenged this and Sykes tried to say that the matter was up to the owner... and refused to discuss it further. I booked this cottage through Sykes, not the owner. This should have been dealt with by Sykes. Needless to say, I will NEVER book another stay through Sykes Cottages. Customers beware. The actual cottage was located in a gorgeous setting with spectacular views. Inside the cottage, although comfortable, the facilities are dated and this property would benefit from investment. Particularly the hot tub and sauna area - very dated.

  • "The cottage was great and the owners were helpful with ideas of places to go although as a photographer I had researched a lot of where I wanted to get landscapes."

Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate as there was a lot of rain and the autumn colour was not as good as usual but then we haven’t had any frost to help the colours. But when you come in October/November you take your chances and I only spent three days totally at home in the cottage, the rest of time I was able to get out and I had a couple of glorious days where I went to the best places.

  • "Alba Ben View cottage, Spen Bridge."

Without a doubt this is one of the best, comfortable cottages we have stayed in (we have stayed in many, over the last few years). The owners Eric & Jo, welcomed us on arrival, and throughout our stay were most helpful and accommodating, with tips where to go and visit, and routes with good views, and local history. The views from the large picture windows, of the snow covered mountains were amazing, and changes to the sky super, even in the rain. We felt we had made new friends, and hope to return again in the summer. Marjorie & James from West Yorkshire.

Very friendly and helpful owners right next door. We were thrilled to see so many birds at the bird table just outside the two huge picture windows, and the morning views of Ben Nevis were amazing. Very comfy beds and both rooms had en-suite showers and toilets, with even a shower stool provided for one shower! Will definitely stay again!

Great hosts who know the area for recommendations. We took the Jacobite Train to Malaig and it didn’t disappoint. Visited Glencoe, Glengarry, Avimore and Glenfinnan for your typical Scottish scenery. Only thing to disappoint was the weather but then again this was Scotland and it does rain a lot.

  • "How welcome we were made to feel on our arrival."

Eric shared his knowledge and experience of the area and we did visit one or two of his suggestions. The hot tub was an added bonus for us as we have not really experienced this luxury before. Please remember to remove all body lotions before submerging into the water. It affects the water and needs to be changed which is both a waste and very time consuming. The house itself is like a home from home . Everything we needed was on site. A delightful stay in a beautiful part of Scotland. The views from the windows are stunning . Highly recommended

  • "For those of you who want a cottage that is pretty central for the Highlands we couldn't recommend this cottage enough."

The owners actually live next door, which is handy if there are problems, but after the initial greeting they never bothered us once. The directions to get to the cottage are spot on. The beds were very comfortable and there are adequate kitchen utensils for making your own meals, if you want to. As to food shopping, there is a Spar shop in Speanbridge and there is a large Aldi, a large M&S Foodhall, a large Home Bargains and a large Morrisons in and close to Fort William, which is not far away, so plenty to choose from. The cafe in Speanbridge is good for food during the day, even do a good breakfast and if you want something just a bit special we can highly recommend the Old Pines Hotel and Restaurant next door, where the service and food were really good. There are plenty of places to visit within driving distance, however, there is also a lovely walk just across the road, if you cross the road you will see some wooden steps which lead to a gravel footpath, if you turn right the footpath leads you to the Commando memorial, if you turn left there is a lovely, safe, fume free walk into Speanbridge, where you can join further footpaths and walks, it is called the Highbridge Footpath. Finally, there is the fantastic view, from the lounge window, of the Nevis Range, including Ben Nevis, that greets you each morning, weather permitting. As to the weather, there is no such thing as bad weather, just a bad choice of clothing!
