Everything was provided by the hosts, Brian and Aida, to make this one of the most relaxing and comfortable holidays we have had. Attention has been given to every detail. The separate log cabin, housing the walk-in shower, was excellent. When arriving back after a day in the hills or enjoying the breathtaking scenery all around, it was great to be able to leave all our outdoor stuff in the separate cabin, perhaps have a shower and then pass into the warm, cosy cottage itself. In no way did the shower being in a separate building cause any inconvenience. In fact it added to the holiday. We would highly recommend this accommodation for any couple looking for a relaxing holiday in an amazing location.

Thank you very much Douglas & Yvonne for writing such a complimentary review, and for leaving the Cottage in such pristine condition! How the world has changed since you left...we hope that the wee relaxing break here has helped to confront all the changes. Best Wishes, Aida & Brian xx - Sykes owner relations

The property

Ullapool 21.3 miles.

Attached to the owner’s home in the idyllic lands of the north west of Scotland, Stepping Stones offers the perfect romantic retreat for you and your partner to spend quality time together whilst surrounded by stunning countryside settings.

As you turn through the gates and drive down alongside the stream, park up in front of the property and unpack the car, with your resting room directly in front of you and the additional building to your right.

Head through the front door of the cottage and into your dwelling; providing a homely feel, the property offers you everything you could need for a relaxing stay in this area of Scotland.

As soon as you enter the property you will be greeted by a modest porch area, perfect for taking off your boots after roaming the highlands and beyond.

Move on through to the sitting room, a quirky spot where to the right you can find remnants of the property’s past; a former gift shop and painting gallery, this area is still immersed with culture through its many books on offer, making it the ideal spot to unwind and enjoy a new read.

To the left of this is the sitting room with an accompanying dining area, with the kitchen just around the corner the property serves all your self-catering needs.

Prepare your favourite dinner and sit at the table while the woodburning stove crackles away, an ideal setting for a romantic dining experience.

When the night draws to a close, peel yourself from in front of the television and head up the spiralling staircase and into the bedroom, with sloping eaves and a king-size bed, this area poses as a perfect spot to rest in between your adventures.

In the external building, the log cabin, you can find a further kitchen/utility area, providing a shower room this spot serves as a brilliant wetroom where you can change out of your mucky outdoor clothes and put on your favourite pyjamas, but also offering a lovely social area too.

In the summer/autumn months, move outside to the fire pit where you can snuggle up and toast marshmallows under the warmth of a blanket with the tranquil sounds of the stream running in front of you.

Take a stroll over the garden’s footbridge to a lovely natural walk way through the trees, along the Dundonnell riverside and featuring views of the scenic surrounding hills, and also of the magnificent An Teallach mountain range, with plenty of opportunity to spot wildlife.

If you fancy a day out in a vibrant village head to Ullapool, originally designed by Thomas Telford in the 18th century, it now stands as an area with various points of interest including its own museum, a play park, a golf club, and a busy harbour offering cruises across the Scottish waters.

The amazing and spectacular Corrieshalloch Gorge is on the way to Ullapool, only 11 miles from your cottage.

Located within a delectable spot in Scotland, Stepping Stones provides the perfect base for exploring all wonders of the North West of Scotland.

Ullapool, nestling on the shores of Loch Broom and overlooking the Summer Isles, is the largest settlement in Wester Ross. This picturesque town was designed in the 18th Century by Thomas Telford and boasts delightful, whitewashed buildings and is also the main terminus for the ferry to Stornoway, the principal town in the Western Isles. The town offers some lovely pubs and restaurants, a range of shops including a well-stocked supermarket, a challenging coastal golf course and a museum and Visitor Centre on West Argyle Street for those wishing to discover more about the area. The museum covers a range of topics including crofting, fishing, emigration and the history of the town. Ullapool is also an ideal base from which to explore the North West of Scotland, with most of the main tourist attractions an easy drive away. The National Trust for Scotland Inverewe Gardens, created by Osgood MacKenzie who collected plants from all parts of the world, is a particular highlight.
