"These things are very subjective but here's our take on Red Chimneys Cottage."
This was a holiday booked to celebrate my 50th birthday. We were looking for something spectacular, and this meet that 'look'. The cottage was a fantastic base to explore Skye. The views are panoramic and from the front garden we saw: dolphins, buzzards, deer & an owl. The cottage itself is well equiped. It has underfloor heating which was fantastic at heating the cottage and cold feet, so much so that we didn't even use the log burner. My wife stated she's sold on underfloor heating. The shower pressure was brilliant and a double size so plenty of space to move around in. We didn't use the bath but it was wide and deep and has a shower attachment which i'm told is good for long hair washing. The beds, bedding, fixtures, fittings and furniture were quality. The wifi signal was strong throughout the stay. Mark & Fiona were great in dealing with a minor issue we had. The arrival instructions and cottage instructions were at the right level i thought. The whole stay was peaceful and we were a bit sad to leave, that's a first for us. I have a feeling we will be returning to Red Chimneys Cottage!
"The property was clean and very comfortable."
Fantastic views - even on a rainy day ! The property is in a very quiet location with only a couple of properties around . Closest shops are a couple of miles away along single track roads running through some amazing countryside. We had a wonderful week there .
"The cottage has undergone extensive refurbishment and offers a comfortable and cosy stay."
Upon arrival, guests are greeted with a welcome gift of locally brewed beer and fudge. The views of Loch Dunvegan are utterly breathtaking and there is an abundance of wildlife present, such as seals, dolphins, eagles, deer and falcons.
"We enjoyed our stay in Red Chimneys Cottage and hope to come back!"
The house was perfekt for us!
"We enjoyed our stay in Red Chimney Cottage very much."
It was very well kitted out, beyond our expectations, there was nothing overlooked or missing. In a beautiful location for peace and relaxation, a perfect base for us to return to each day after exploring the island.
"What a wonderful place to call."
Homs.on Skye. We loved how quiet and peaceful Red Chimneys Cottage was. The views were amazing and we loved watching the sheep graze and the rabbits play each morning. The home had everything we needed to keep our family of 4 comfortable. What a gem!
"Lovely cottage in a fabulous location."
Couldn’t fault it, would love to return.
"This is the most incredible holiday cottage."
The view from the front is amazing, looking across the loch towards Dunvegan Castle. The amount of wildlife we saw in our 3 night stay was wonderful - a couple of nights a herd of deer came into the next field.
"Very comfortable cottage in a blissful location."
"Very comfortable cottage with stunning views over the water."
Very clean, well furnished and decorated with a cozy sitting area upstairs with a wood burning stove. We absolutely loved our stay there and would definitely book again. Highly recommended!!
"Stunning wee cottage with great facilities and views from the door step."
"Lovely cottage with great view over Loch Dunvegan."
Very well equipped, comfortable stay. So quiet and peaceful. Not one to find in the dark tho. We have stayed in this location in past years, so had a good idea where to go. Would recommend. Only one point on safety is the staircase is varnished and i found slippy in walking socks. Fab stay. Thank you.
"The Red Chimneys delivered all it promised from the cleanliness of the cottage to peaceful location."
Having breakfast seeing whales, dolphins and seals in the Loch and a stag walking through the garden one evening was amazing. The morning and evening walk to the bay where perfect , finished off with a glass of red on the perfectly positioned bench. Thank you for a very memorable holiday. We can not recommend enough.
"Red Chimneys is a well appointed property in a fantastic remote location."
Views over Dunvegan Loch. A very comfortable place. Upstairs bedroom can be challenging for those of us over 6ft and lacks any clothes hanging space. Note that the shower over bath cannot be used to shower as there is no headroom. WiFi was perfect. A very cosy and peaceful place to stay.
"Lovely cottage - fitted out to a high standard."
We run a holiday let ourselves so fully understand the lengths the owner has gone to to get the cottage kitted out as it was. Views were amazing - I dont think we saw the same views twice the whole time we were at the cottage. Minor point but was amazed the wifi worked so well in such a remote location! It was probably more reliable than our own home network!
"A very comfortable cottage with everything we needed, right down to a map of the area and a book with walks which was very useful."
The views were wonderful and telescope and binoculars were used often. To sit out on the bench in the garden taking in the scenery was just what we needed to relax. Great holiday, thank you.
"Fantastic cottage with unbelievable views well equipped and comfortable"
"3rd time at red chimneys, love the cottage, everything you need &scenery to wake up to, just perfect"
"Well equipped cottage."
Very homely and comfortable, peaceful and relaxed.
"We arrived at Red Chimneys later than expected due to some vehicle issues on the way, but as soon as we opened the door to the cottage and switched on the lights, we knew we were having a good week."
At this point we did not even know what the scenery was like. The cottage was warm, clean and well laid out, it was everything we needed and more. We have stayed in a lot of cottages in the UK over the years and this is definitely right up there as the best we have stayed at. Waking up the next morning we soon found that every window (including the (double) bedroom window has fantastic views. The location is amazing if you are looking for a 'get away from it all' break. It is quiet and serene. We had warm and sunny days and we had cold, windy and wet days but the weather never changed how we felt about this break. Red Chimneys is a fantastic cottage as a base to explore, and with stunning scenery right on the doorstep. From the front of the cottage we saw Dolphins, Seals, White tailed eagles, buzzards and barn owls. The cottage itself has everything that you need and is well laid out, whilst there is a log burner in the 1st floor living room, we did not need to use it even on the colder days as teh underfloor heating did the trick throughout. The water pressure was amazing, if you like a powerful shower to refresh you, or to beat away any aches and pains, or if you want a deep lush bath you have it here. We really cannot fault cottage at all. The only downside is that we cannot book the same week next year (our anniversary) because it is already booked up. Just proving how popular this cottage is. We will visit again without doubt. Thank you Fiona and Mark for such a beautiful cottage
"Beautiful and quiet location, lovely cottage."
Would go again.
"The cottage is remote and down a single track but there plenty of passing places so not a big issue, unfortunately we had bad weather but was still a very relaxing break in a fantastic area."
"What can I say."
Lovely cottage, fantastic location.
"The cottage was in a fantastic location fantastic views near to the Three Chimney’s restaurant where we had a gorgeous meal ……and close to great amenities in Dunvegan ……."
.ideal location for exploring The Isle of Skye …..Would definitely recommend the cottage
"Great holiday home in a magical surrounding definately be back in the future"
"The position of this cottage takes your breath away."
It is stunning and we had such beautiful weather for most of our week. It is remote and totally peaceful so suited us perfectly. Very well equipped and very comfortable with all mod cons. The garden is completely enclosed so perfect for our doggies. Had a wonderful meal at The Three Chimneys restaurant. It is well worth the long drive and we did not want to leave. What a experience!!!
"We loved this beautiful cottage."
A perfect remote an tranquil part of Skye to relax and get away from city life. However still in a location to visit many of Skyes attractions and sights. Spotted dolphins swimming in the bay in front of the house. Advice would be to follow the owners instructions on how to find the Accommodation as the location pin on Sykes is incorrect, you need to keep driving further along the single track road.
"Lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings we would definitely return and highly recommend."
"This is our 4th visit to Red Chimneys and we feel like we're at home the moment we walk in."
We have used Sykes cottages for over 10 years and with 1 exception have always been happy with the cottage and location
"We'll return !"
"It was situated in the most amazing place."
The scenery was stunning. The cottage was very warm and cosy. Our dog loved it. We felt very at home. Away from all the madness.
"Absolutely lovely holiday."
Beautiful cottage in fantastic remote location. All mod cons in the cottage. Superb break could not recommend more.
"Beautiful little house, warm, good facilities in a stunning location."
If your lucky you may catch a pod of dolphins from the kitchen window while eating your breakfast. On a clear night you could see the Milky Way. It quite with amazing views and ideal for a relaxing get away but take plenty supplies as it’s a long way to the nearest shop. We had to think twice about leaving
"The cottage was fantastic, warm and cosy, views were great."
Everything was perfect.
"We have been to Red Chimneys 3 times now."
I think that says how much we love Red Chimneys. It is like going home. the quirkiness of the deco is just to our taste. The local area is great for shorter walks and although quite a drive from the main routes you can never tire of drive through such beautiful scenery.
"Great cottage and loved the decoration inside."
felt like home from home
"The location was fantastic, there are houses around however it feels like you are very isolated and private."
The house was a fantastic base to come home too in the evenings, warm and cozy and comfortable. The location feels so remote that when we first arrived we thought it would take us ages to get to any of the places we wanted to go to on the island, however the location turned out to be very central.
Dog friendly. Superbly equipped for self catering. Great place to spot variety of wild life. Comfortable and cosy. Will definitely return.
"Red Chimneys is a delightful holiday cottage - definitely a home from home with quirky features which makes it feel like a family home."
The location is outstanding with beautiful views over the Loch. The garden is secure so therefore safe. It really is so peaceful; just sitting out in the garden listening to the wildlife was unbelievable.
"Lovely cottage in a beautiful location."
Very comfy and cosy with good facilities. Only one minor complaint, that being the cooker. I don't think that the fan oven is working properly but that didn't detract from what was a very enjoyable holiday.
"Lovely warm cottage with everything you need and great views"
"Stunning cottage in a stunning location."
"Very warm, cosy cottage with lovely views over the loch."
Excellent idea having logs for sale at the cottage as sourcing can be a chore. Perfect location for walking and sight seeing. Be prepared for very narrow roads to cottage and nearest, very good shop is 2 miles away in Glendale.
"The cottage is in a lovely area for hiking and scenery."
Very warm and comfortable. Only downside for us was no clothes hanging space in the upstairs bedroom. Even door top mounted hooks would suffice. Still, it is a great place to unwind.
"We had a wonderful Christmas stay at Red Chimneys cottage."
Beautiful cottage with breath taking sea views during day and night, Perfect for family and dog with enclosed garden/field. Very comfortable and warm with underground heating. Almost too warm with stove on but a good complaint. Lovely big bath as well as shower facilities to ease bones after long day of travel and walks. A wonderful remote get away. Lovely for walks around location and Neist point lighthouse a must see which is short drive away. Nearest store open in winter is Glendale over rocky road through scenic moors. Petrol station and shop in Dunvegan. Nearest big town with co ops in Portree about 40 minutes away. Old man of Storr is another must walk/hike near Portree. Isles Inn and Portree hotel allow dogs in bar area. If take Ferry over from Mallaig be sure to book in advance. Our directions took us this way and we were lucky to get on last boat for the day due to cancellation. Can drive around over bridge to Isle of Skye 2hrs away and we took this route on way back. Both routes through stunning highland views. WiFi good and TV too if need. Good collection of books provided and even a guitar. All the comforts are provided for a most relaxing stay any time of year. Highly recommend for a wonderful memorable get away from it all relaxing experience. Miss looking out at the panoramic see views from cottage already. NB. A correction needed in directions from Skye cottage confirmation. Directions note when enter Dunvegan from Portree to take a right to Glendale but should say take a sharp left when enter Dunvegan and then right beyond petrol station. There was another left before Dunvegan as well to Glendale. Important to review written directions getting to cottage for first time especially when dark or download offline app as phone goes out of service in some parts en route if rely on mobile maps.
"We couldn't have asked for a better equipped place to make our home from for a week."
The underfloor heating downstairs is fantastic and the log burner is great to get all cosy in front of. With fabulous views and total peace and quiet, we couldn't have picked better. Highly recommended for couples.
Great location with the best views on the doorstep. Enclosed garden for the dogs. Underfloor heating and a wood burner. Cosy comfortable seating in the lounge and a kitchen with everything you need. We will be back next spring.
"We loved the area."
The cottage is perfectly positioned. Fabulous views out to sea and the walk down to the beach is easy to find, where the seals come in quite close to stare you out. Very peaceful and relaxing holiday.
"Second visit to tbis Skye cottage."
Very discusted that I had to spend first hour clearing up the garden after several other 4 legged occupants! I know the garden is overgrown but it's no excuse. I even followed the dogs out with a torch to ensure it was clean for the next visitors. As I didn't want others to have the same experience. We could have left a few hours after arriving due to this and the state of the potholed roads. It was a long journey and the weather was really wet and cold not like our previous stay. We purservered and stuck it out and thankfully things did improve. A bit of tlc and this place will be a great again. A new suite in the lounge and better seating is called for. Best day was Thursday when we saw an otter on the shore of Loch Dunvegan. Saturday when we left was gorgeous weather as if to say come back soon. The roads need desperately looking at and then we would maybe be prepared tp stay again.
"This cottage is in the most idyllic place, the scenery out the front is just stunning."
There is just so much to see on Skye, one visit is just not enough! Recommend a boat trip on Spindrifter, George and Neil were just fantastic, we saw sea eagles, seals and a pod of dolphins which stayed with the boat for the best part of 30 minutes. Magic. Flora MacDonald's memorial is another must see and the museum there is fascinating. Dunvegan too, the list goes on!
"Cottage needs some refurbishment as nearly all the dinner plates were chipped and the tumblers were not nice to drink from."
Window sills and ornaments on them were very dusty. Other than that not a bad cottage which was very cosy with the underfloor heating. I think people need to realise how remote this place is.
"Very warm, welcoming cottage."
Fantastic location. Our only recommendation is a very minor detail. We were a party of four adults and we like to self cater and consequently ran out of cutlery. We would have no problem recommending this holiday to anyone else. Skye is the most beautiful island with lots to do and see.
"We really enjoyed our stay in this comfortable cottage with excellent views."
We would definitely consider re-booking, if we visit Skye again.
"Amazing well equipped cottage, stunning views an ideal place for total peace and quiet."
Under floor heating kept us all toasty warm. We took plenty of provisions which was needed as we we’re quite isolated although the little village shop is well stocked. Saw lots of wild life and the log burner kept us warm in the evenings
"The cottage is beautiful, we took extra warm clothes and extra bedding because we were staying in January but we needn't have worried the cottage is very warm and all needs are catered for."
"The cottage was great clean and tidy."
Great place to stay peaceful and friendly .loads to do and see
"This was our third stay in this cottage in as many years - that says it all really!"
Lovely, very well presented and equipped and in a stunning location. Just perfect.
"Superb from start to finish."
Fantastic location, wonderful walks and it was great to see such an abundance of wildlife. We'll be back.
"Beautiful cosy cottage with outstanding views Felt relaxed as soon as we arrived"
"Really tranquil location to visit during the winter months."
Highly recommended facilities and holiday.
"I will absolutely recommend Red Chimneys Cottage."
It was perfect for us and our collie Bess. Such a warm and cosy cottage that is beautifully furnished and with everything you could possibly need from binoculars, a guitar and even a telescope to really appreciate the view. The view is absolutely amazing! We didn't want to leave. Even in November we had good sunny cold days perfect for walking or just sitting with the log burner on watching the fishing boats. Would highly recommend the oldest bakery on skye in nearby Dunvegan, also the Coral beach is well worth the walk. Can't wait to return! Fiona, Dumfries and Galloway.
"The cottage was very comfortable and clean the views were stunning l will book this cottage again"
"Location was stunning, cottage was very welcoming & warm, had everything & more ..."
Location was stunning, cottage was very welcoming & warm, had everything & more that we needed, will recommend & definately book again
"The cottage was very nice and the views from the windows were fantastic."
The beds were comfortable and everyone enjoyed a good night's sleep. We loved the location, on the side of Loch Dunvegan and the lovely views. It was only spoilt by one stormy, rainy weather day mid-week but it is Skye and the weather can be unpredictable. Shame our view of the aurora was marred by thick cloud but c'est last vie!! It was certainly a chilling out place and for losing track of time. Everything we needed was there and what wasn't provided we had with us. We have taken many cottage holidays in Scotland and we know what to expect. The lighting in the kitchen was okay for doing a jigsaw puzzle in the evening and during a very wet day, when even the dogs didn't want to go out. The scenery on Skye is very beautiful and ever changing views whatever the weather, but you need to be prepared for isolation so not a place for pub goers and party animals but you can play your cds quite loud without upsetting the neighbours - the sheep! The underfloor heating is brilliant and the wood burner was a real treat. We would definitely consider returning in the future.
"Superb cottage and fabulous location."
We couldn't have asked for anything more.
