  • "On arrival The Mill Cottage was picture post card beautiful, even in the torrential rain, on entering we found a roaring log fire awaiting us, perfect after a long drive in poor weather conditions."

The lounge was always warm and welcoming, plenty of comfy seats and a really well stocked kitchen, more than enough plates cups glasses and pans to make and prepare meals with. It was a perfect location for touring, 15 minutes from St Augustus and Loch Ness, 30 mins to Neptune’s Steps and the Commando monument or Ben Nevis. We had an amazing trip to the Isle of Skye about 90 mins away during torrential rain when the mountains come alive with fast flowing ravines crashing down into waterfalls. Fabulous setting and location for a touring break, defiantly being going back

We had regular visits of the red squirrel at the front of the cottage to our delight. Really enjoyed the welcome treat from the owners! Highly recommend it for a memorable holiday in Scotland!

  • "This was a comfortable cottage, plenty of room for 4 adults to relax, comfortable furniture, clean, good size and well furnished rooms, gorgeous welcome basket (wine, jam, oatcakes etc), amazing visiting red squirrels and a great location."

Fort Augustus is only a few miles away and not only did we eat out in 4 different places there (one lunch and 3 dinner) but also used a great chippy there and a useful Londis shop. The location is ... well words can’t sum up the Scottish Highlands...breathtaking. The only drawback we found was that the living room was a little dark for reading in the evenings, but when that is all then it shows how nice the place is. When I rang for the code the owner was friendly and gave up tips on how to entice the squirrel and on places to visit and to eat and since we stayed a fortnight the local caretaker rang us to see if we needed extra towels or bedding. We felt looked after.

  • "Great place, great house, all perfect."

Only thing - open bank to the fierce mountain river could have a fence. We had children with us and it was quite scary.

  • "If possible it would be very helpful if you could supply more photographs of the surroundings of the cottages you hire."

It would give a better idea of the area around the exterior such as close neighbours/shared drives.

The property

This old mill is a very special and unique detached historical property, located in the heart of the beautiful Highlands of Scotland, on the edge of the village of Invergarry.

Aldernaig Mill was built at the turn of the 18th century as a corn mill, and was tastefully converted some years ago to provide an extremely comfortable and spacious holiday home.

Privately situated set back from the road with a driveway and mature gardens to the front, Aldernaig Mill is ideal for a family group or a group of friends to enjoy spending time together in the unspoilt beauty of the North Highlands.

At ground floor level, there is a large sociable sitting/dining room with two arm chairs and a large sofa and a dining table for all guests to sit and enjoy meals together.

This area also boasts views over the front garden and a cosy woodburning stove.

The well-equipped kitchen ensures that meals can be prepared with ease and enjoyed around the big dining table.

On the upper floor, there are four very comfortable bedrooms and the family bathroom.

The spacious garden is sheltered by mature trees along the border and visitors to the Mill will enjoy the deer and pine martins that regularly spend time there.

The area is of course bursting with wildlife and with the River Garry just a few yards away otters can sometimes be seen too.

Within an easy walk are the facilities of the local hotel, which serves food and boasts a lively pub!

The area is ideal for walkers, cyclist and fisherman and for the more adrenaline-seeking guests then the Great Glen Water Park nearby offers white water rafting and canyoning!

As a location for touring the Highlands then Invergarry is ideal as you can take the road west and visit the magical Isle of Skye or stay closer to home and follow the road along Loch Ness into Inverness and beyond.

A simply fabulous cottage in a fabulous area to ensure a fabulous holiday for all!
