  • "First time we used the shower the hose disconnected from the shower head and water went everywhere ion the bathroom."

Could not connect the hose to the head again as the threads were worn and both head and hose should have been renewed prior to our visit. Horrible smell from the boiler which was like standing next to an aeroplane engine waiting to get on a plane. Beds and mattress very old and very uncomfortable.

  • "Lovely cottage, what you'd expect from life on Skye."

Location is amazing, local café is really good, local restaurants are good too. It's no Simba or Emma mattress and the cottage doesn't have a log burner, hence the reason for not giving it full marks. Great value for money and you couldn't fault it otherwise.

  • "Lovely, spacious cottage, beautiful location (very remote)."

Very well equipped (much appreciate there being some basic cupboard supplies as well as washing powder and tin foil -which are often lacking) and comfortable as well as clean. The owner was very accommodating regarding checking in and out and the bottle of wine a lovely touch. The only slight quibble would be the wording of the location description it reads as if there is a restaurant a short walk away but there is just a (licenced) cafe which closes at 4. But the village is actually quite bustling including a lovely local shop, and the cafe is good too. Lovely to really get away from it all for a few days. Recommend Dunvegan taxi, Donda is very helpful (and quick!). Also the Old school restaurant in Dunvegan.

  • "We had a lovely stay in Kintillo cottage."

It is very rural, without WiFi and phone signal. There are plentiful sheep for neighbours roaming freely on the roadside, made for some comical journeys. The cottage had absolutely everything we needed for a weeks stay, including a well equipped kitchen. I’d recommend taking some DVDs for a wet evening (there’s also a VCR if anyone still owns them). There were some lovely walks nearby in the countryside and a quaint little bay 10-15 minutes walk away where we watched salmon jumping out the water. A nice place to switch off from the outside world for a week.

  • "Excellent week, excellent house."

Very positive connection with Mrs.Campbell, the owner. Worth emphasising that it is a long way from the Skye Bridge, and also that the 6 mile road from Dunvagen to Glendale is narrow, and surprisingly busy.

El horario de la calefacción es escaso, cuando se apaga hace mucho frío, por lo demás ha sido una estancia maravillosa.

The cottage was homely and large enough for the two of us. We were blessed with warm sunshine all week and we think the cottage would benefit from tables and chairs outside to enjoy our meals in the beautiful surrounding countryside. Nevertheless, this is a minor niggle. Its so peaceful! All you can hear are cuckoos and lambs. I would recommend Kintillo as a great base for holidays, nearby shop sells everything. We will definately return.

  • "You want to get away from it all?"

Then this is the place to go. Some people don't know what a treat it is to be away from the internet, FB etc etc. Set in a stunning location in Glendale, Skye, it was so peaceful, tranquil and any other verb you can think of to describe quiet (except for the local sheep who set to serenading me one morning......). There's a wee general store 5 minutes down the road that appears to sell everything; if you feel "web starved" then there's the Cafe Lephin across the road from the Gen Store that offers free WiFi or the Glendale Hall. Kintillo is very well equipped, clean and spacious. The cottage is friendly to responsible dog owners, we took our Springer, Mika, and had him on the leash most of the time which is no problem. Once you get "out and about" there will be opportunities to let your dog run fairly free. Just be extra vigilant and observe the countryside common sense rules. A car is certainly needed to get around though there is the Skye bus service which can whizz you to places of interest; car needed to visit the Fair Pools though. The owner, Anne, sent a great e-mail to us with contact details, some of the local rules, local information etc. I had occasion to phone Anne for something or other and she was very pleasant, welcoming and courteous to a fault. Beware the potholes!! I mean it!

Ideal if you are looking for some down time away from the daily hustle and bustle. My wife and I enjoyed the peace and quiet and our only regret was that we were only there for 3 nights rather than the full week. The cottage was beautifully presented and felt very homely, there was plenty of space inside. It was 15mins away from Dunvegan and 45mins from Portree - you aren't too far away from amenities (there is a local shop in Glendale as well). Someone has taken the liberty of printing out a great selection of local walks in the cottage, which are great if you are looking to get outdoors and in the fresh air. Would definitely rent again if back in the area.

About the location

Portree 22 miles.

The village of Dunvegan is set in the north west of Skye and contains a mixture of traditional stone and modern houses, along with a selection of shops and hotels. About a mile from the village is Dunvegan Castle, home to the Clan MacLeod, who have continuously occupied the castle since the 13th century. Only four miles away is the famous Three Chimneys Restaurant, a must for all foodies, and just a 10 minute walk away is the very popular Old School Restaurant, also worth a visit. Also in the area are the Cullin Mountains with their fantastic rock forms and pinnacles, which many climbers would put at the top of their list. Other attractions on the Isle are plentiful - visit the Talisker Distillery or Portree, the island’s only town, set around its natural harbour, which boasts an excellent range of shops, hotels and restaurants, and also offers Sea Eagle trips from the pier, which are extremely popular.
