"Property met our needs."
Not quite as cosy as it looked in the photos. Well fitted kitchen, no problem cooking.Excellent washer and drier. Lots of hot water and good showers. Central heating which we needed at times. Warm comfy beds. Bigger towels and bathmats would be appreciated. Some sort of lighting between hall and landing maybe a double switch? Enjoyed our stay, beautiful views, a beautiful island and some amazing walks.
"Wonderful place, beautiful views."
Cozy and exactly as described. The host, Murdo, was very responsive to any of our needs. When we get a chance to come back to the Skye, we will definitely rebook here. Wish we could have stayed longer.
"Very comfy and warm accommodation."
kitchen had everything we needed. Can't beat that view, such a great location.
"Lovely property in a lovely location."
The sitting room with the fireplace is a very cosy place to be during the colder winter time! The views on the bay are changing every hour and it is wonderful to wake up to the that view! Would definitely recommend it!
"Just 1 little thing from my point of view, because we travelled a long way we obviously couldn't take milk or butter and when we got to carbost the only shop was closed, perhaps there could be some arrangement made to have milk and butter in the fridge on arrival, otherwise everything was fabulous."
"It was all perfect!"
"Super house in a lovely quiet situation and two minutes walk from a secluded beach."
A perfect get away from it all spot.
"There was a leak in the roof above the stairs when we arrived leading to a wet stairs carpet and later to a damp smell."
Relayed to the owner who had been made aware that morning. Remedial work was carried out without inconvenience to ourselves. Otherwise an idyllic setting with great views across Loch Harport and Fiscavaig Bay.
"This was our second visit to Bayview."
In our opinion Bayview is a perfect holiday home. It’s super comfortable, really thoughtfully set up, well equipped and located in a peaceful rural setting. It offers a comfortable base for a relaxing getaway or exploring Skye. Murdo, Bayview’s owner, and Claire, Bayview’s housekeeper, were outstanding. They responded very quickly and helpfully to all our queries and really went the extra mile to make our stay perfect. Bayview is in Fiskavaig, around 4 miles further along a quiet road from the Talisker distillery, Carbost, which itself is around 3 miles from the Fairy pools. Despite being so close to two big tourist attractions most tourists don’t have any reason to travel beyond the Talisker distillery so Fiskavaig is really quiet with no light or noise pollution (coming from the city we really appreciated both). We all got super undisturbed sleeps as a result. Bayview is located at a beautiful bay (5 mins walk to the beach) with silver grey sands when the tide is out, rock pools and beautiful views across to Macleod’s Tables. The house itself is very well equipped. There’s a very useful dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer indoors high dry and washing line outside. The kitchen has everything we could think of for cooking. We arrived with a few bags of our favourite foods and popped them away in the under counter fridge and separate under counter freezer. We topped up groceries at the local community shop in Carbost and Coop in Portree. We visited the local pub/restaurant, Taigh Ailean in neighbouring Portnalong, twice for dinner - it was fabulous. We booked tables in advance and they also do take away. We had an early dinner from nearby The Oyster Shed in Carbost one night and took it down to the picnic benches in Carbost. Super seafood and a breathtaking view of the Cuillins along Loch Harport. Bayview’s lounge has big comfy reclining and rocking chairs, ideal for movie nights or just relaxing with a book. There are a selection of dvds in the house and we also took a few of our own. The upstairs shower has piping hot water which we loved and there’s also a full bathroom downstairs too. The heating makes the house really cosy and comfortable. We used the two main bedrooms upstairs, both looking into the bay. One has a lovely view of MacLeod’s Tables and the other a seastack and lighthouse without leaving your bed. We saw lots of wild birds visiting the garden and loved the rope swing. There’s a picnic bench in the garden for dining or sitting outside. The clear skies, weather permitting, allowed us to see some amazing stars and glorious sunsets. A super home for a family holiday. We can’t recommend Bayview highly enough, didn’t want to leave and hope to come back soon!
"The listing says it is a mile to the pub."
This is untrue - the pub is near the shop; about 3 miles away. The double bed mattress is not a comfortable mattress. There was no welcome pack. A few board games or similar would have been nice. How about a bird feeder for the garden.
Thank you for your comments. It is a mile to the nearest pub and 3 miles to the next one. https://www.taighailean.scot/ Taigh Ailean is the local bar and restaurant a mile from the house and has been reopened since 17th May 2021 when it was allowed to. Therefore the listing is accurate . The next pub is The Old Inn Carbost which is indeed 3 miles away near the shop as you suggested. I have never provided a welcome pack nor does it suggest there is one. I have always felt that anyone arriving to a more remote place would be stocked up on food and drink. "This is a beautiful spot."
The view is amazing. The little rocky bay just a 2 minute walk away is great, we enjoyed regular swims, fishing and exploring. There is plenty to do in Skye and we had a really enjoyable week with our 3 kids 8-14 exploring and relaxing. It was also very sunny! The cottage had everything we needed and more, comfy beds and sofas. A well equipped kitchen. Everything worked well. Thank you.
"Very little to add."
Lovely place zero hassle check in and out. All as advertised
"Only 2 mins walk from a beautiful little beach that was perfect for snorkelling and paddle boarding- gorgeous spot."
"Staying at Bayview House gave us our best family holiday ever."
The weather helped (dry, sunny, warm/hot and just enough wind to keep the midges at bay) but everything else was due to our accommodation and its location. The house itself was really comfortable (the photos didn't do justice to the immensely comfortable, reclining chairs in the lounge; and we've never slept better on holiday than in the Bayview House beds - although one of them did squeak a bit). It was also really well-equipped (our kids loved the swing!). But more than all that, the location was superb. The views from the house, including of glorious sunsets at this time of year, and the ever-changing beach as the tide went in and out, were magnificent. And it's perfectly-located to give peace and quiet (we never heard any neighbours) but without a sense of isolation (there are houses nearby), and just 10-15 minutes' drive from a pub/restaurant, shop and cafe. Thanks for a great holiday.
"A lovely warm cottage with fantastic views across the bay."
It was well equipped and has a basic Sky TV package.
"This comfortable, peaceful, spacious cottage had an awe inspiring view of the bay."
It was well equipped, especially the kitchen (but would be nice to have a clothes airer for when the Scottish weather doesn’t allow use of the washing line!) and the bench outside is a nice touch. Due to COVID there was no information available at the property, however this was not an issue as the owner was incredibly helpful, even taking time to explain the history of the cottage as well as going above and beyond to call the next day to ensure we had sorted out the heating. The two main bedrooms were a lovely size with views over the bay although the third one would be suitable for a child only. The cottage is quite central to all the main attractions on Skye.
"Bayview was in a wonderful location with fantastic views from most windows."
It was in a very peaceful spot so we were guaranteed a good night's sleep after long walks on Skye! It was extremely well equipped, warm and cosy. It was beautifully clean and we appreciated all the extra information, including the history of the house and suggested walks. We would certainly recommend this house to anyone planning to stay on the island of Skye.
"This is a great cottage with fantastic views."
It's a traditional croft that has been sensitively modernised inside. It's really warm and comfortable and a fantastic place to spend a week on Skye. It's very well equipped, particularly in the kitchen and we had a really nice week in Fiskavaig.
"Lovely accommodation in a peaceful setting."
House extremely comfortable equipped with all requirements. Brilliant location to explore all parts of the island. Enjoyed our stay immensely.
"I enjoyed staying in this great cottage with ever changing views of the bay only yards from the door, its location and setting, in the ever changing summer light of Scotland."
The location is very good for being able to take a trip out to anywhere on the island. The cottage is extremely well equipped and has excellent facilities. Comfy beds, excellent shower, plenty of space. And it has a lovely family history the owner shares in the information book. I would recommend this as a great stay for anyone wishing to have a holiday on Skye.
"Situation - a perfect place to enjoy the Skye scenery and amazing sunsets."
Near a great pub, easy access to local areas, a good central place to stay
"Second time staying at this property, says how good it was both times"
"It was only in one particular area where we felt our expectations had not been met."
In all other areas, we were very happy with the Cottage, its aspect, and its facilities. Our disappointment was in the size of the single bedroom. It was simply not large enough for an adult, or adolescent, and is more suited to a child. As I say, the dbl bedroom and twin bedded rooms were absolutely fine, but the single room was cramped and awkward for an adult to sleep, and move around in with any reasonable degree of comfort.
"Perfect house in a historic stile at a perfect place with a wonderful view over fiscavaig bay."
Space enough for 5 persons. A lot of possibilities to do in the region.
"Very beautiful and very comfortable house."
It looks traditional, on the inside and the outside, but is fully equiped with all mod cons. Very spacious, nicely decorated, good clean beds. Unfortunaly we had a small problem with one of the showers, but as there are two in the house that was no problem. The owner reacted very prompt to our questions. The view from the house on Fiskavaig Bay is breathtaking! Skye is great for walking, visiting historic sites, (Dunvegan, Fairy Glen), lovely villages, restaurants and the Talisker distillery (close to Bayview House). We would recommend this house to everyone who loves the above!
"3rd time at Bayview!"
Just as good as previous visits. Time slows down here. We will be booking again!
"There was not much more to be desired, it was a nice place and a prime location."
The information delivered was (key pickup etc) was all fine. One note to make is to stock up supplies (e.g. in Broadford at the Co-op, coming from Inverness and just over the Skye bridge) before one arrives, as the shop in Carbost is very limited and is not open on Sunday. Next nearest would be Portree, which is an hour drive away).
"Lovely, warm, comfortable cottage with everything we needed."
Would recommend to others. Two local pubs good. Good base for exploring Skye .
"We all had a great time in Skye, the cottage we stayed in was perfect, amazing location 100%"
"Lovely cottage but distance from main Skye road a little misleading."
It states leaving Carbost into Portnalong but it’s a good 2-3 miles actually to the cottage, on a pot- holed single track road. More remote than we expected.
"This cottage was excellent, it was lovely that the heating was on when we arrived as had driven for over 12 hours to get there."
It was a very, quiet peaceful, cosy cottage with lots of storage space for clothes and belongings. We had one wet day and just enjoyed being there as the views were lovely. We were wondering about whether to book this cottage as there was no wifi but are glad we did but this may put people off. Also, the mobile phone signal was not good which was a bit of an inconvenience..
"Thanks to you to permit us to discover a so beautifull place."
"Bayview is a lovely cottage with beautiful views of the bay, quiet, peaceful, clean, warm and very comfortable inside."
There was everything we needed, the kitchen is fully equipped, lounge is cosy and comfortable sofas with TV, big dining room, two bathrooms. Perfectly for a family. The location is central - the Fairy Pools on the doorstep, the popular Sligachan and Glen Brittle are also only a short drive away. Not to mention the Talisker distillery which you pass every time you go out. We went walking everyday and was happy to come back and rest our tired legs in this lovely house and didn't want to leave. Definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Skye!
"Very surprised by how well equipped the cottage was, very clean, beautifully kept,."
"This is our second visit to Bayview - every bit as good as our October visit."
Again the cottage was so clean and comfortable, and we are getting to know the neighbours. The Fiskavaig area is delightful, and again we were blessed with amazing weather. The views of the Bay at all times never ceases to give Wonder!
"Wifi internet would be a welcome addition otherwise the cottage was perfect."
We spent a blissful couple of days there and would love to return.
"We had the most amazing week at Bayview House and couldn't recommend it highly enough."
Beautiful house and scenery. Incredible views and beach right on the doorstep. Cant wait to return.
"It was a wonderful holiday."
the cottage exceeded expectations. it was so clean and cosy. the view was far better than in your brochure.!. we didn't want to come home. please pass on our appreciation to the owner
"We were exceptionally lucky with the weather in Skye for our whole 2 weeks."
Bayview had the most idyllic position with stunning views. It's location was also perfect for getting to the rest of the Island. We really did not want to come home. I have been to Skye before, but not for so long. It made us realise what a really beautiful place Skye is. We are hoping to come again next year.
"Fabulous location right by a bay & the cottage had everything we needed and more."
