  • "Hello we stayed one week in the Old Croft House."

Initially I was a bit worried due to one negative previous comment, but I can say that our stay was wonderful. Positive notes: the house was very clean and well equipped generally. We were happy to have soap, toilet paper and washing up liquid there, so that we did not need to run to the shops immédiately. The shower worked well and the heating also. Altogether the house is cozy and set in a lovely spot on the island, in close proximity to the nature. I can recommend this accomodation.

Thank you for the lovely comment and for recommending the property. We are pleased that you had a lovely stay on Skye and enjoyed seeing the sights. Property Owner

  • "A beautifully appointed 3 bed house."

The kitchen amenities were excellent which was very welcome given the limited options for eating out, we could cook very comfortably. There was a local shop just down the road. There was also a take away next to the shop, The Hungry Gull, which was good and did do a vegan option.

  • "Really disappointed with this holiday cottage !"

! We don't believe the owner can be checking his property between guest stays as one of two faulty dining room chairs caused a nasty fall, bruised bottom and sprained ankle for my partner. To add salt to the wound, the owner avoided speaking to either of us (despite having our numbers) and at no stage did he offer an apology or any recompense. The cottage was very basic, the bathroom was unclean, the inside of the fridge was sticky and full of food crumbs ( we had to wipe it out before we put our food in) We hope this feedback means that in the future he will check his cottage before guests arrive and look to safeguard his customers welfare.

We are very disappointed to have received this review. We always do everything we can to sort any issues that arise at the property and to communicate with the customer. If you read previous reviews you will see this. We would hope it does not detract from you considering our property for your stay on Skye. Property Owner

  • "The cottage is very well appointed in a beautiful area close to many walks - it was very cosy, despite the unseasonably cold weather."

Furnishings and decor were stylish yet comfortable and unlike many places we've stayed, there was ample crockery and cutlery. Contact with the owners was easy and instructions made the cottage easy to find. My only issue with the booking is the very high fee that Sykes Cottages charge for administering the booking. If I saw a similar cottage through a different website I would be more likely to book with them as the charge seems disproportionately high.

  • "We loved our stay at The Old Croft cottage."

Stunning location, really comfortable and well equipped, and we would go back any time. It was pretty hard to leave this beautiful little place. Highly recommend for anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a little while. Sykes Cottages super helpful with the booking process, and the owners could not have been nicer. Thank you!

  • "I would thoroughly recommend this location and cottage !"

! The cottage was like home from home - had everything you needed provided and the wifi was perfect- says a lot when it kept 3 teenagers happy. It was furnished to a high standard and so clean we felt like the first people to stay in it. I was slightly concerned at being 16 miles from Portree but I needn’t have worried - the drive was so scenic each way the time flew each time. Staffin village is worth investigating and has a lovely walk via the campsite to the pier. This was our first Sykes Cottage stay a d the bar has been set very high !!

Convenient yet peaceful location, cosy, immaculately clean and well kitted out. Excellent value for money and we would definitely stay here again. One small issue was that it wasn’t possible to get washing powder in washing machine due to position so bring pods you can throw straight in drum.

  • "This was our second time staying at the Old Croft in Staffin and basically is now our choice of accommodation when we holiday in Skye."

The house offers everything you would need as your base to be able to tour the island and enjoy all of the great outdoor sites. It is located in Staffin which sits between the Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing, so ideal for tourists who like a bit of walking and breathtaking scenery on their doorstep. Nearby is Staffin Beach which has its own dinosaur footprints.... yeh real ones .... and is a great location for a picnic, etc. When we visited the beach, just after a heavy rainstorm, there was a fantastic rainbow across Staffin Bay, actually, we saw rainbows nearly every day when based at the Old Croft.... could not find a pot of gold though :( Weather was also good and I even got a tan ..... well pure white to a bit red! The house was extremely clean and safe with a few things "put away" from use because of COVID (DVDs etc) but this did not impact on our holiday experience at all. Who wants to watch DVDs when you have spectacular views from the house and sitting in the kitchen with a dram or two? We were not sure what to expect during our holiday this year, as COVID Regulations in Scotland were changing daily, but everything was fine on the island and you basically forgot about the pandemic unless you were in a shop, everybody adhering to masks, etc. It also meant that the island was quieter than usual with fewer tourists so we got to see a bit more as you could travel quicker between destinations. During this trip, we managed to visit Fairy Glen, Duntulm Castle, Coral Beach, Spar Caves, Elgol (beach and a fantastic view of Cuillins), Kyelakin (including Castle Maol), Broadford Castle, Neist Point, and Kilt Rock. When we get back to Skye we definitely hope that the Old Croft is available or we may need to change our holiday dates to suit!

  • "I can thoroughly recommend this cottage!"

It is really well presented and equipped and is so comfortable. We were impressed at how clean it was and felt very safe staying there during this time of Covid 19. I can imagine it will be really cosy in the winter too! We thought the cottage was even better in real life than the photos were able to show. Staffin itself is a perfect location. The views from the cottage were fantastic and there is so much to see and do nearby. It was really handy to have a well stocked shop just a short walk away too.

  • "Highly recommended."

Enjoyed the whole experience despite a week of gales and rain. Warm and comfortable inside. Well located. Never met the owners and although we had their mobile numbers we had no signal on either of our phones (O2 Network). However the WiFi worked well and was sufficient for our needs.

  • "We had an absolutely brilliant time on our holiday to the Isle of Skye."

The Old Croft was ideally located for most of what Skye has to offer but everything else was only about an hour's drive at the most. It is also a short drive to Uig for those considering Harris and Lewis. The cottage offered everything, it was comfortable, spacious, warm and with modern amenities, basically all you would need. Staffin has a shop and a couple of cafes but if you are looking for a crazy nightlife then Portree might be the answer .... actually Glasgow might be the answer! Nightlife in Staffin offers peace, quietness and dark skies providing fantastic star gazing opportunities. The views from the cottage are fantastic however one slight criticism (and it is slight) is that the hedge at the front of the cottage requires some tender loving care and as such the views of Totternish can only be viewed from the upstairs bedrooms .... please get the hedge trimmed so that your guests can enjoy the views from the kitchen and living room :). When we return to Skye hopefully the cottage is available as we would definitely stay here again and the week rental was really reasonable. Then again it turned out an expensive holiday for us as our car broke down outside Ullapool and had to be towed to Inverness for a new clutch to be fitted!

  • "When I first booked this property, I was worried that it might be located at a remote area and not accessible to the attraction around Isle of Skye."

It turned out to be near several attractions like the Old Man of Storr, Melts Fall and Quiraing. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is a grocery store just a few minutes down the road. The heating works very well and this is very important to my family with kids as we are from a hot tropical country. I will definitely recommend it to my friends

Immaculately clean, good quality furniture, Very roomy. It was very well stocked and there was plenty of everything practical, like towels, toilet paper etc. The utility room was a nice touch and having use of a washing machine was handy as it meant we didn’t have dirty underwear and socks hanging around the place. I would highly recommend this house to anyone.

The property

This delightful cottage is set on an elevated site, with far-reaching views across the countryside to the fabulous Trotternish Ridge, in the village of Staffin, Isle of Skye.

Tastefully presented and well-equipped, this cottage is ideal for a family or group of friends who want to spend time together on the magical Isle of Skye.

There are three pretty bedrooms on the upper floor, all with great views.

The ground floor has a spacious and comfortable sitting room with a feature fireplace and fire providing that little extra bit of comfort on the chillier nights.

The kitchen, with its solid oak flooring, is a sociable area and meals can be prepared with ease and enjoyed around the table together.

The village of Staffin has good local services and very close to this cottage is Columba 1400, a community centre with an excellent cafe/restaurant should guests wish to pop out for something to eat and the home-baking is to be recommended!

Within a few minutes’ walk visitors can be at the beautiful rugged coastline and follow a single track road down to a quiet sandy beach, ideal for summer picnics!

If you ever want to leave the village, then Skye has much to offer and, of course, the scenery is hard to beat.

The islands capital is a short drive away and on route to Portree you will pass the famous Kilt Rock with its vertical columns of basalt that resemble the tartan of a kilt, so stop off in the car park and soak up the fabulous views.

The island has a big coastline and there is much to explore but at the end of a busy day returning to your pretty cottage will be just perfect!
