    “October Break”

Just returned from a week long stay here. The Old Croft House did not disappoint as it was lovely. Very welcoming and cosy. Had everything you needed and more for a self catering stay. Super clean. It was lovely to see that the cottage looked exactly like the photographs as sometimes when you’ve made a booking online, when you get there, it’s completely different. Not the case here Beautiful views from the cottage. Only 10 mins walk away from the beach. Very well based to see the sites of Skye. Kilt Rock, The Quairaing and The Old Man of Storr to name a few. Portree is 17 miles or so away from the house and has a few shops and a large Co-op for food shopping essentials. Would advise to take plenty of supplies with you when you go. There is a village shop and a take away in Staffin. Although unfortunately tea room closed at the time we were there. No pub!! We were quite surprised at how bad the main road from Portree to Staffin was and it doesn’t really get any better further up the island. For being a main road for all traffic, it could be in a better state of repair. Covid restrictions in place so unfortunately that did impact on eating out as the hotels in Portree had to stop serving food by 6pm. Alcohol could be served but only outside, so you couldn’t enjoy an alcoholic drink with your meal, which we found a bit odd. But that can’t be helped and that’s just the way things have to be at the moment. On the whole, we had a lovely break away. The scenery is amazing, even in the rain.

The property

This delightful cottage is set on an elevated site, with far-reaching views across the countryside to the fabulous Trotternish Ridge, in the village of Staffin, Isle of Skye.

Tastefully presented and well-equipped, this cottage is ideal for a family or group of friends who want to spend time together on the magical Isle of Skye.

There are three pretty bedrooms on the upper floor, all with great views.

The ground floor has a spacious and comfortable sitting room with a feature fireplace and fire providing that little extra bit of comfort on the chillier nights.

The kitchen, with its solid oak flooring, is a sociable area and meals can be prepared with ease and enjoyed around the table together.

The village of Staffin has good local services and very close to this cottage is Columba 1400, a community centre with an excellent cafe/restaurant should guests wish to pop out for something to eat and the home-baking is to be recommended!

Within a few minutes’ walk visitors can be at the beautiful rugged coastline and follow a single track road down to a quiet sandy beach, ideal for summer picnics!

If you ever want to leave the village, then Skye has much to offer and, of course, the scenery is hard to beat.

The islands capital is a short drive away and on route to Portree you will pass the famous Kilt Rock with its vertical columns of basalt that resemble the tartan of a kilt, so stop off in the car park and soak up the fabulous views.

The island has a big coastline and there is much to explore but at the end of a busy day returning to your pretty cottage will be just perfect!
