  • "Our first impression of the property was disappointing."

Rendering cracked and crumbling and the wood very grey. Nothing like the photograph in the listing. Certainly not the wow factor we had hoped for. Whilst certain areas had been cleaned inside, there were many more that hadn’t. The whole place seemed tired and grubby and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. Many items needed washing or replacing. On the whole it was adequate for our needs however for the price paid I would have expected much better.

  • "Lovely well equipped property with outstanding views."

The beds did take little getting use to as both doubles were very firm. Can not fault the cleanliness or facilities. Would happily rebook.

  • "Please address kitchen cleaning, all utensils and equipment needed a good clean before use, items were sticky to touch and toaster full of bits old water in kettle etc."

Main bedroom bed extremely hard! Also awful smell in that room, despite window open. No welcome pack, which we have come to expect from Skyes cottages, disappointing as always a lovely gesture Recomend anyone travelling take a mattress topper to ease bed issues. But...FANTASTIC views and location made up for this and after a clean round in the kitchen all good elsewhere in the house. Lovely welcome from the locals.

  • "The best view in the whole of Glenelg!"

A mesmerising place. The dog and the teenagers loved it even though there was just one blue sky day and sunset (when the rest of GB bathed in the heat!). The Glenelg Inn is sublime and Dun Brewery feels like you're in France. Great paddle boarding spot. The only thing to be mindful is getting to Glenelg itself. The one route in is not for the faint hearted over the highlands so it was decision by the teens to only leave Glenelg via the ferry to Skye. This is an epic way to travel with the assistance the border collie ferry hands but take note of the seasonal and daily times for sailing and also in high winds you're not going anywhere! I dream of Glenelg and the magic there...just make sure you are ok with the last bit of the journey to get to this destination.

  • "Stunning location for a holiday house, the view from the living room was incredible."

A few negatives which did detract from the overall experience. No hot water in ensuite shower. New mattress needed in ensuite bedroom Threadbare towels. Nonetheless we would not hesitate to return and would be happy to pay a bit more to remedy the negatives.

  • "Lovely well equipped house, gorgeous view when you get to see it, sadly we were very unlucky with the weather, fantastic wood burner which we used to full advantage."

We picked this cottage for its remote location for wildlife and night photography, on the first night we saw an amazing sky but unfortunately it rained almost constantly thereafter, but if you're looking to stargaze and you get a clear night then this property is definitely a winner. A point to note is that the access road is in very poor condition and the turn into the property is very tight therefore anyone arriving in a car with low(ish) suspension may struggle our Volvo grounded out at a couple of points so care is needed. Village shop stocks only basic essentials, Co-op in Kyle has everything you need. Glenelg inn warm and welcoming but kitchen is closed during the winter hours, opens (Thursday - Sunday nights). Would we return? Yes!

  • "FABULOUS view."

We had a lovely peaceful and relaxing week in this beautiful part of Scotland; really got to know the area by exploring on foot and there are some super hidden gems if you just look. Would have been very keen to 're book for the same week next year - But, looking at the Sykes website the price has gone up CONSIDERABLY (not sure why ) same house, same view, same location, same facilities ..... Shame that nature's view - that is FREE - has such a cost put on it.

Spacious and comfortable for our party of 6 adults. A short walk away from the beach and the Glenelg Inn which was warm and welcoming and served great food.

The cottage is perfectly well appointed, with plenty of room for a family of 6. We cooked in, and had everything we needed (and more) and also ate out at the Glenelg Inn; less than 5 minutes away. We didn’t use the TV once; just relaxed and walked and took in the location!

The property

A lovely detached cottage, occupying a stunning elevated location, with an array of wildlife, and uninterrupted, beautiful views of the Isle of Skye, in the picturesque village of Glenelg on the fabulous west coast of the Scottish Highlands.

From its private hillside situation, this Highland cottage boasts breathtaking, uninterrupted views across the Sound of Sleat to the Isle of Skye, and views to the smaller islands of Rhum and Eigg.

Very well-appointed throughout, this Glenelg cottage would be ideal for a family group or group of friends who will enjoy this area and all that it has to offer.

There are three well-presented bedrooms in this Glenelg cottage, and a very comfortable sitting room with a dining area with welcoming multi fuel stove and fabulous views from the windows.

Next door is the very well-equipped kitchen where you can enjoy cooking some tasty meals.

The large, private and enclosed gardens to the front and rear are the perfect place for relaxing or dining alfresco, and just a short walk away is Glenelg Inn, a traditional inn with cosy character, lively music nights and excellent local cuisine, so there is no need to cook every night.

The village has a very well-stocked local shop too.

Of course, the community-owned ferry runs regularly in the summer months, sailing across the Sound of Sleat to Skye and is a most pleasant alternative to using the Skye Bridge, which is located just 25 miles away in the bigger village of Kyle of Lochalsh.

There is so much for wildlife enthusiasts to enjoy in this beautiful part of the country with sea eagles, otters and seals seen regularly.

This Glenelg cottage will delight visitors of all ages, who are sure enjoy a wonderful Highland holiday.

About the location

GLENELG

Shiel Bridge 9 miles; Skye 46.2 miles; Uig 68.9 miles; Broadford 29.2 miles.

Just ten miles from the main route to the Isle of Skye, the small coastal village of Glenelg lies on the shores of the Sound of Sleat, surrounded by scenery deemed magnificent even by West Highland standards. The glen has preserved its unspoilt beauty and sense of isolation, yet remains within easy reach of the more well-known centres of attraction in the area. Overlooking the Isle of Skye, it is situated on the route once used by drovers from Skye to get their cattle to the mainland, crossing over the narrow Kyle Rhea straits. A couple of miles from the village on the Arnisdale road you will find Sandaig bay, named "Camusfearna" by Gavin Maxwell in his novel Ring of Bright Water, and where there is a cairn for his beloved otter Edal. Glenelg also has the best preserved Pictish Brochs on mainland Scotland. The ruins of Bernera Barracks, an 18th Century garrison for English government troops, still stand next to the village.
