  • “Perfect and peaceful hideaway.”

This lovely little cottage was well worth the 19 hours it took us to get there. After a long and stressful journey, we arrived at midnight, so we were unable to appreciate our surroundings at first, but we were extremely grateful for the seriously comfortable bed in which to crash out. In the morning, I was greeted with glorious sunshine, birds singing, no traffic of any kind, and stunning surroundings. The garden is a real sun trap if like us you get good weather, and the cottage is indeed cosy, clean, well equipped and lots of hot water! Sue and Eddie are lovely, and although the cottage is on their property, you have total privacy in a dog secure garden, and they are close enough to call on if you need anything. For two people who live in the overpopulated South East of England, this was a peaceful Paradise away from reality, I wish more places like this existed closer to home. As we came with our dog, it was really handy to have a dog secure garden, so we could just let him out rather than one of us having to go out with him to make sure he didn't escape. There are a couple of villages close by to get basic supplies, and Inverness is about 40 minutes drive if you want to do more serious shopping. If you want peace and quiet but the option to venture out exploring, this is a gem of a place to stay, but a word of advice for dog owners. If like us you wanted to go and visit lots of castles and gardens, don't bother stepping out the door. Unlike National Trust properties, we found that you couldn't take dogs anywhere. As it was so hot, leaving the dog in the car wasn't an option, so we couldn't visit any of the places we really wanted to see, so save yourself the trouble and having to find out the hard way like us. Also, if you're visiting Glen Affric or similar places in the summer, make sure you wear plenty of insect repellant, the midges are vicious!

The property

Cannich 1.5 miles.

As its name suggests, this is indeed a cosy cottage near the Highland village of Cannich, occupying a private location on a working livestock farm with horses grazing in the field close by.

This delightful, well-equipped detached cottage is situated next to the owners’ home, but is totally private and is ideal for a small family or a couple who will want to explore this beautiful unspoilt part of the highlands of Scotland together.

Inside this comfortable, single-storey cottage is a welcoming sitting room with an open fire, that leads through to a well-equipped kitchen/diner where tasty meals can be prepared with ease.

Completing the accommodation are two lovely bedrooms, consisting of a king-size double and a single, along with a separate bathroom.

The neat south-facing front garden is a real sun trap and a wonderful place for a quiet read with a refreshing drink.

With the village of Cannich just 1.5 miles in one direction, and the village of Tomich the same distance in the other, visitors can shop and dine in both locations.

Struy has a well-regarded local inn where good food is served and Cannich has The Slaters Arms Country Pub and Restaurant, both places come highly recommended.

This charming holiday home is ideally placed for touring the area with Loch Ness just a short drive away.

Why not visit Urquhart Castle with its excellent visitors centre and then follow the road along the banks of the Loch into Inverness where the Culloden Moor Battlefield offers a wonderful visitor experience for all ages?

However for outdoor enthusiasts everything you could want is close to the cottage with beautiful Glen Affric, Glen Cannich and Glen Strathfarrar on your doorstep.

With wildlife in abundance, stunning scenery and a cosy cottage to call home, there can be nothing better!
