  • "We had a fabulous stay at this cottage, it was cozy and warm."

It supplied us with everything needed and loved every minute. The views were spectacular, my daughter loved waking up to see the sheep across in the farm. We were really sad to leave but we will be rebooking soon. When we arrived at the cottage we had a lovely welcome card and some fizz, was a very nice touch.

Thank you for so many wonderful comments about Peinora House being our first guests. I am so happy that you enjoyed your stay and the magic of Skye, and hope that you will book again soon, and hopefully the weather will be a little better:) Property Owner

The property

Peinora House is a picturesque, detached house resting in Balgown just outside Uig on the Isle of Skye.

Boasting spectacular views across countryside, mountains and out to sea, the house is nestled in a rural spot for a family or group of four to explore the history and sights of Skye.

After parking in the off-road parking and admiring your romantic surroundings, step inside Peinora House where your adventure begins; kick off your shoes in the porch and turn left into the homely sitting room, complete with two inviting leather sofas, quaint décor, a TV and unusual games for evening entertainment, including Dutch Sjoelbak and Chinese Mahjong, all the while the electric fire keeps you toasty.

Making for a convenient self-catering holiday, the kitchen hosts plenty of cupboard space, as well as a fridge, freezer and electric oven and hob to rustle up energising breakfasts or host home-cooked meals to be enjoyed in the dining room, with seating for four by the warmth of an electric fire.

Trekking along Skye's coast calls for a hot shower in the ground-floor shower room, where you can rinse off the day before climbing the stairs for bed.

You'll find a double and a twin with sloped ceilings, storage space, dressing tables and wonderful views across rolling hills and stretches of grassland.

Peinora House also offers family-friendly holidays with a highchair, cot and folding bed are available on request.

A handy first-floor cloakroom has a basin and WC to quickly freshen up for the day.

Make the most of the spectacular surroundings in the property's gardens, rich in shrubbery and plants; take to the enclosed, rear garden for an afternoon of games or set the outdoor seating to dine alfresco and toast to your holiday home.

In an excellent spot for exploring Skye, Balgown is home to Whitewave, a family-run outdoor centre offering kayaking, canoeing, climbing and abseiling at various locations, whilst the village of Uig is a short journey away.

Resting on the shorts of Loch Snizort, Uig hosts two pubs, shops and a filling station with a café, as well as Uig Pottery for hand-crafted souvenirs and Skye Brewery serving superb real ales.

Catch the ferry to the Outer Hebrides to admire one of Skye's most beautiful bays and see if you can spot local wildlife such as sea eagles and dolphins!

With Uig as your base, be sure to visit the iconic Fairy Glen, a unique hillside known for its folk tales, whilst The Quiraing is known for challenging mountain hikes and breath-taking scenery.

Journey east to Staffin, famed for amazing views and peaceful Highland retreats with plenty of history; Staffin beach is sheltered and ideal for families, head to the seafood market to taste local cuisine and take the hiking trail to Staffin Harbour and Corran Beach.

Heading further south, Portree is Skye's largest town with excellent amenities in a picture-perfect setting, whether that's wandering along the natural harbour for fish & chips, clambering up to The Lump for panoramic views, or visiting the award-winning Aros Centre for regular theatre, concerts and film screenings.
