  • "When we arrived at the house on the slip we sat outside for 3 hours because we been told our occupation had been moved back until six pm to allow extra cleaning because of Covid 19."

Yet nobody arrived at the house or left the house during this time . There was absolutely no reason for any delay. When we did go inside the house was filthy. I took photographs which I showed to the owner the next day. He admitted that no one had stayed in the house recently and it had not been checked recently. He mentioned compensation but of course, never came back to finalize his offer. Being asked to hang around for three extra hours after a ten-hour drive would have just been justified if the house had indeed been scrupulously cleaned. It had not. We then find that the water supply came from a private supply and had to be boiled before use. Even for washing fruit or vegetables. The Annex which had a mezzanine bedroom was accessed via a spiral staircase. It actually moved when you used it and I found myself hanging onto the banister for dear life. It was definitely not suitable for very elderly or disabled guests yet none of this was mentioned in the description for the house. On Saturday 3rd October I immediately contacted Sykes sending photographs of the dirt we had to clean.I resent another one on Monday 5th October. As yet I have received no reply from Sykes.

  • "The access road was not suitable for my car as the underside of the car would make contact with the road often even when not driven at speed."

There was no warning on this. My car was damaged. The property was inaccessible by car due to the angle of the road and driveway. When the owner explained I could have approached the driveway from the slip road, it was too late, we were at the end of the holiday. You should have mentioned the tap water was not drinkable as it was 30 mins drive to the nearest shop. Also the listing didn’t mention a washing machine which was a lovely surprise but an unnecessary omission. The property and holiday were otherwise, remarkable.
