  • "A wonderful location."

A very friendly village, with plenty of great local food and lots to do on the island.

  • "A very well equipped and spacious home from home."

The gale of wind and torrential rain on the day didn't detract from the comfort of the house. In a great location with nearby top quality restaurant and other local amenities.

  • "Esperienza fantastica!"

  • "Mill cottage indeed served as a fantastic basecamp for our wanderings around Skye."

We used the kitchen to cook breakfast and relaxed over a movie in the upstairs family room. Waking up to the sound of the sheep bleeting from the back is something I'll never forget! Also nice yard, and back seating area. I would only give a warning to folks about those midges! Come prepared with spray, or whatever you need to keep those away! Thank you for a super stay at Mill Cottage, these are memories for a lifetime.

  • "I would strongly recommend Dunvegan who wishes to visit Isle of Skye in general and Mill cottage in particular."

Excellent location. Better than it appers in pictures posted on website. All emenities including washing machine with dryer, fully euipped kitchen with all necessary utensils were availabe. The best place was backyard garden where you can enjoy barbaque too if weather permits.(unfortunately,it didn't when we were there). Neist point is very near and a must visit place.Host is very perticular and every thing was described excellently at property.Little costly than other places we stayed at Scotlan;however;overall,it was an amazing experience staying at Dunvegan and exploring Isle of Skye from there.

  • "The first problem was identifying the cottage since there was no sign on the gate or side of the house."

Upon entering the cottage there was a pervading smell of damp. The downstairs bathroom had a handicapped occupant previously since the en-suite was equipped with a handicap style shower and no bath. The towels smelled sour. The oven was coated on the inside with grease so there was a failure of the cleaning service. Most of the draped were not black out style so the rooms were alight with sunlight around 5.00 am. The only other shower had very poor water pressure.

  • "Amenities provided were insufficient and of poor quality - for example, there was only a low quality bar soap for showers and no shampoo, and some towels were evidently old and dropping fibres."

Supplies were lacking sorely - no coffee machine, and not even any packet coffee! Instead there was a barely filled jar of old and dubious-looking coffee powder which we did not dare to drink. Bed sheets and headboards looked dusty and had small clumps of dust; pillows were flat. The whole apartment had a dirty feel to it! Water flow in the toilets were very poor, sometimes with no water supply at all. Location was also poor, as it was located 20-30 minutes away from Portree town, which was where most shops and food were located. Overall disappointing as these little things made our stay less than ideal and uhncomfortable. The only positive thing was that it was a very large cottage with lots of room and facilities like TVs, couches and many DVDs and books for use. Rooms had colour themes which looked nice and bright.

The property

This very spacious detached house occupies a quiet location in the popular village of Dunvegan on the magical Isle of Skye.

Mill Cottage is perfectly situated to allow guests easy access to the local shops, hotels and restaurants in the village.

With roomy accommodation over two floors there are 4 bedrooms in total, with one at ground floor level.

The space in the house means that there are two sitting rooms both with comfy seating and TVs, ideal if the children want their own space!

The very well equipped kitchen is open to a lovely bright dining room that overlooks the rear garden and guests will be able to enjoy home cooked meals around the big table together whilst chatting about the day’s events.

There is a private garden to the rear, a perfect spot for BBQ in the warmer weather and you are within easy walking distance of a very good local restaurant.

Dunvegan of course attracts many visitors, due to the attraction of the famous Dunvegan Castle with its stunning gardens.

However, the whole Island is beautiful with its rugged indented coastline, mountainous cliffs and great wildlife.

Why not visit the local distillery at Talisker, enjoy a dram and shop for some gifts to take home.

The Cuillin Mountain range dominates the Island and there are fantastic walking routes into the heart of the mountains and of course up to the top if you are that way inclined!

You will certainly enjoy the comfort and homely ambience of Mill Cottage and the magic of this Island.

About the location

DUNVEGAN

Portree 22 miles.

The village of Dunvegan is set in the north west of Skye and contains a mixture of traditional stone and modern houses, along with a selection of shops and hotels. About a mile from the village is Dunvegan Castle, home to the Clan MacLeod, who have continuously occupied the castle since the 13th century. Only four miles away is the famous Three Chimneys Restaurant, a must for all foodies, and just a 10 minute walk away is the very popular Old School Restaurant, also worth a visit. Also in the area are the Cullin Mountains with their fantastic rock forms and pinnacles, which many climbers would put at the top of their list. Other attractions on the Isle are plentiful - visit the Talisker Distillery or Portree, the island’s only town, set around its natural harbour, which boasts an excellent range of shops, hotels and restaurants, and also offers Sea Eagle trips from the pier, which are extremely popular.
