The location of the cottage is great, really close to a main road to explore but set back enough that it doesn't feel like it.
“The garden and summer house were lovely to spend evenings relaxing in.”
“The garden and summer house were lovely to spend evenings relaxing in. The house was spacious and really clean with a well equipped kitchen. We had a slight issue with the hot water one morning but Kim was able to fix it within 10 minutes of calling (you don't get that service anywhere else!) Overall it was great and I'd have no problems going back.”- Ms Flynn, May 2021
Positives were lovely and quiet location, warmth, comfy bed, great shower, garden and summerhouse.
“Lack of tv was no problem, great to have Netflix, catch up TV and Amazon prime. Negatives were cleanliness (some crockery dirty, dusty cupboards, hair on floor by back door. Long way from bedrooms to wc in night, down stairs and at other side of house. Appreciated torch provision but low ceiling on stairs meant banged head in night. Kitchen and bathroom great but elsewhere property felt ‘tired’, furnishings and fittings felt tired, towels harsh, carpets thin, lightbulbs needed changing, only 2 dishwasher tablets and one sheet of kit towel left for us, little information on amenities and local attractions. Sykes were asked to change description of ‘distinctive red front door’ 3 years ago, and it still hasn’t been done. No welcome pack at all. Still a great holiday due to good weather and beautiful Skye. Very glad it wasn’t wet, as would not have liked to have been confined to the house all day.”- Mr Bunday, May 2021
Clean, comfortable cottage in a good location.
“We appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and well-stocked library.”- Ms Peet, February 2020
This was our second time staying in this lovely cottage on the beautiful Isle of Skye.
“..from the moment we walked through the door we felt completely at home. The cottage is spotlessly clean and has everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. The twin beds are so comfortable (I slept well every night which is not my usual) and the power shower is the best ever!! The location is quiet and peaceful, not far from Portree and a good base to explore our favourite places and take in the spectacular scenery of Skye. We were fortunate to have good weather, took lots of photographs and with clear skies at night were able to lie in bed and see thousands of stars! For my sister and I this is the place to recharge our spirits and once again we were sad to leave 77/78 Aird but hope to return in the near future. Thank you Hazel for making your home available for others to enjoy....we love it.”- Mrs Mckay, September 2019
Lovely cottage in good location.
“We were able to visit all main attractions in the north of the island. Extremely well equipped cosy cottage. Note to Sykes though the front door is now white not ‘a distinctive red’ which did confuse us when we arrived late evening after a long journey! Please change on your website.”- Mrs Mclardie, September 2019
Comfortable cottage, very well equipped kitchen, lovely views, peaceful & relaxing.
“”- Rev Offor, September 2019
Beautiful cottage in a lovely quite location Complete with everything you could possibly need and a great selection of books and games for a rainy day.
“....thankfully we didn’t need to avail ourselves of these as we had a week of great weather No tv reception here.....but who cares in this beautiful part of the world Would be happy to stay here again.....highly recommended.”- Mr Carton, June 2019
I was disappointed in the cottage for several reasons that include: 1.
“the location was a disappointment in that the cottage sat right on the road and did not have access to the ocean or other walking areas; the cottage had a funny lay out in that the bedrooms were upstairs and the only bathroom was downstairs; the stairs were steep with a low ceiling in which my son hit his head on when we first arrived (there was no mention of MIND your Head when climbing stairs); the cottage had not been cleaned very well in that we found scissors in the dish washer. a sweater in the dryer. cleaning supplies sitting in the shower. and little tiny bugs (midges???) all over the window sill in the kitchen; in order to shut the gate with our car (small Peugeot) we had to pull back and forward several times to fit in the space; and lastly the bedroom ceilings were on a slant so you could not stand up straight without hitting your head. Considering the price we paid for this cottage I had expected more and I myself would not stay here again. The woman who owns the cottage seems nice enough but sorry I was disappointed. We still enjoyed our time in Scotland though.”- Mr Mcneal, May 2019
The feeling of being at home.
“The fully equipped kitchen the amazingly powerful shower.”- Mr Kelly, March 2019
Probably the best cottage I have ever stayed at!
“This is a well thought out home away from home. The small attention to details is what makes it... from the extra lamps in the cupboard to the powerful water pressure. These things seem small but they make the difference. You can see the owners truly care. I will be very hesitant to stay anywhere else than here. 10/10”- Mr Stebbings, February 2019
Very charming cottage for our trip to Skye.
“Perfectly located to reach all parts of the island. Everything we needed was there and we certainly enjoyed our evenings in the living room filled with books and games. Thanks for letting us stay at your place and the easy communication!”- Mr Baumann, July 2018
No everything was perfect- Mrs Stewart, June 2018
Very nice place with everything you could ask for.
“”- Mr Williamson, May 2018
This was one of the best holidays we have ever had!
“We expected grey skies and rain but were very lucky that the sun shone everyday. The Isle Of Skye is beautiful and lived up to all our expectations as we toured around enjoying all the places on our itinerary. (The Skye Museum of Island Life in Kilmuir is well worth the journey north.) Being April meant that the roads were quiet but watch out for those potholes! The cottage was absolutely brilliant! Beautifully located with lochs front and back, very well maintained and clean, and short of nothing that one would need, it totally enhanced our holiday. Our evenings at the cottage were a very pleasant part of our stay. Sitting in the wood panelled lounge enjoying a wine or a whisky and reflecting on the day contributed perfectly to the mindfulness we were seeking. Shelves of books and nice art on the walls added to the ambience of this room. It is a long drive from our Manchester home to this cottage, and they say that you should never go back, but we are already planning our return! Many thanks to owner Hazel and custodian Kim.”- Mr Beresford, April 2018
Generally very positive, one suggestion intended to be constructive for the owner would be to put some coat hooks up by the front door!- Mr Hunt, October 2017
Everything met our expectations, and the wonderful library of books was a bonus!
“we would certainly consider booking this cottage again.”- Mrs Jeffery, September 2017
Well equipped cottage in a great location for exploring Skye, especially the north of the island.
“A very comfortable, warm, clean and well-equipped cottage in an excellent location on a small peninsula in northern Skye. The location is very quiet, with very little traffic and with the sounds of skylarks and oystercatchers on the rocky beach, just a short distance from the garden gate. It’s a short drive to Portree for shops and other services and, in the other direction, to the Edinbane Inn – a great pub with lovely food if you don't want to cook. The location is excellent for exploring the north and west of Skye by car and on foot, although we also travelled to the south of Skye on two occasions without difficulty.”- Hugh M, July 2017
“My sister and I have just returned from spending a week in Skye staying in this wonderful cottage. From the moment we walked in, we felt completely at home and you sense this cottage is very much loved. The cottage is cosy, spotlessly clean and extremely well equipped and has the best shower ever!! Beds are very comfortable and I slept like a log every night ( not my usual I might add). We had good weather so enjoyed sitting in the summer house in the evening in perfect peace watching the sun set over the loch and listening to the birds. The cottage is well situated for exploring beautiful Skye and its breathtaking scenery. We were sorry to be leaving 77/78 Aird but will definitely be back in the future to recharge our spirits and enjoy this perfect place. Thank you.”- Joan M, July 2017
Perfect, homely little cottage
“This was a lovely little cottage outside of Portree. Well linked for the buses (only a mile walk) and good off-road parking for our car. Only 7 miles to a Co-Op as well. The little library room was an absolute treat, considering one day it was too stormy to do anything so we hid away in the library and played the board games and read books. The kitchen was really well stocked both in terms of basic cooking condiments and equipment and the view outside the kitchen window was amazing. Definitely plan on coming back in the late summer!”- ilikesporks, March 2017
Skye is an amazing experience bringing peace and tranquility to our modern lives.
“It is rugged, unspoilt containing within those windswept peaks history and nature in perfect combination to be found by those willing to embrace its call.”- Mr Miller, September 2016
Five enthusiastic stars!
“We comfortably slept and fed four happy adults here. Spotlessly clean, all the appliances work perfectly, and the strong wifi was extra convenient. Beautiful views, easy to get to everything on Skye, AND a gorgeous garden with sweet little summer house. Spacious kitchen that let us cook for family and friends. The sitting room with a grand selection of games and books (even children's books) was a special highlight. Excellent value. We highly recommend it and hope to stay here again.”- Amanda W, August 2016
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at 77/78 Aird with us all, we are so pleased that all four of you spent a happy holiday there! It is great to hear that you had everything you needed to hand there, plus those beautiful views, with a lovely garden to enjoy them from, sound like a particular highlight! We certainly hope you return for another stay soon. - Owner relations team
An outstanding property, the best self catering cottage I've ever stayed in, it was superbly equipped.- Mr Kirman, May 2016
A cosy, convenient base for exploring Skye
“I stayed here in October 2015 with my husband and two little girls. The house was easy to find, had off-road parking and a pretty location on a small peninsula, giving loch views in both directions. There was no TV signal but we were aware of this from the information given, although there was a DVD player and the internet worked well for our laptop - but we hardly used either! There are many shelves of books, an absolutely wonderful range of subjects perfect for a lover of nature/art/history/Scotland/fiction. (Me!) The girls learnt to play chess and other games, and it did us all good to have a break from the usual routine. The house was comfortable and very cosy in the horribly noisy storm which battered us for two nights, and the bathroom and kitchen large and well equipped. The location is quite far north on Skye and we found that in a week, driving around and doing several walks, we were only able to fully explore from about Sligachan and above - very thoroughly, mind you! Skye is bigger than I remember from 30 years ago..... We had some beautiful weather, some awful weather and storms, but we enjoyed ourselves. Plenty of information in the cottage about places to go, but we did a bit of research beforehand. I would certainly come here again, my only comment being that after a hard day's walking, I did find myself wishing that the cottage had a bath! The shower was great, but I'm sure you know what I mean. We need to come back to Skye soon!”- midgemack, November 2015
Beautiful cottage set in wonderful scenery
“My husband and I spent a week in this cottage in early summer. The cottage is secluded enough to enjoy total peace and quiet but within easy driving distance of Portree for the essentials such as shopping. The cottage is very well set up with everything you could need for your stay, lovely, cosy and comfortable, and the garden is beautiful. There is also good off road parking for the car. The owner communicated all the details we needed, plus lots of extra hints and tips, in plenty of time for our visit and there was a file of local information in the cottage. The surrounding area is stunning, as is the whole of Skye. I would highly recommend this cottage, I will defiantly be booking this again. Additional tip for anyone with a gluten intolerance - the local co-op as you drive into Portree stocks a small collection of free-from goods, and the Skye bakery (on the same road into Portree, just before the co-op) is an absolute must, it does the best gluten free bread I have ever tasted.”- Christine B, November 2015
We are so happy you enjoyed the peace and seclusion of 77/78 Aird. The tip about the Skye Bakery is very helpful, thank you - we will be sure to try the bread ourselves! We hope to see you again soon, we will keep our eyes out for your next booking! - Owner relations team
The cottage is out of this world.
“Liked the wildlife on your doorstep, looking into the evening sky watching the sunsets and the stars, sitting in the summerhouse with the one you love sharing a few glasses of wine. Every day the landscape changes so no two photographs are the same. We still haven't seen everything that we want to see so we will be going back again next year.”- Mr Ballantyne, August 2015
It was stunning inside and out.
“It had an enormous kitchen with more supplies than we could have possibly used. We appreciated the high standards of cleanliness of our vacation home. It was a lovely place to stay, as well as being a great base for exploring Skye. We would stay longer the next time.”- Leistikow, August 2015
The standard of equipment supplied with the accommodation was excellent.
“The level of decoration was homey and it felt comfortable.”- Mrs Berry, June 2015
Compared to so many other places this cottage supplied over and above what we would have expected.
“It was truly a home away from home. We loved it, will be telling anyone heading to Skye that this is the place to stay!”- Mrs Runciman, May 2015
Quiet, calm, comfortable & well equipped pretty cottage overlooking Loch Snizort.
“We stayed here on the week of 23rd Feb for some rest & recuperation time and it was ideal. The cottage is about 8 miles North west of Portree, in the direction of Uig and Bernisdale, on the banks of Loch Snizort. It has a very well equipped kitchen with a fridge freezer, second fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and dryer, all in perfect condition and all the pots, pans, plates and cutlery you could ever need. There are two very comfortable living rooms, one more homely in style, with wood panelled walls and a huge library wall and a second more modern decorated room with a large dresser and with a large corner sofa and wall lights, ideal for lounging and reading. There are two bedrooms upstairs, which are compact, but plenty big enough with more than adequate storage and fantastic views of the Loch and the rear garden; one double and now twin. There is no TV reception here or mobile signal, which we knew beforehand and wasn't an issue. There is BT Broadband of roughly 1.5-2Mb download speed which provides good service for using your mobile phone over the internet (using Tu Go app on O2 or Three in Touch on Three Mobile) which let us stay in touch with friends and family and more importantly means they can call you if needed. We could also watch iPlayer on our iPads perfectly well, but this is modest in terms of broadband. If you have many people in your group wanting to use devices, you'll get poorer service. Walking a short distance from the house to the main road gave a very good mobile signal on Three and O2.”- Jammach, March 2015
We had high expectations of the cottage and were delighted.
“The idea was to have comfortable surroundings to read, write and switch off from the world and it was absolutely perfect.”- Mr Holmes, September 2014
A great starting point for exploring the whole of the Isle of Skye.
“A nice and quiet cottage.”- Mrs Balke, July 2014
Views of two sea lochs from both front and rear are superlative.
“Staying at this cottage is like having shared someone else's home that they left the previous week. The tranquillity of the location is good. The bathroom and shower are to a high standard and the oil-fired central heating makes the cottage very comfortable. The summer house was great to be in and appreciate the view over Loch Treaslane.”- Mr Andrews, April 2014
The cottage was lovely.- Ms Thomson, September 2013
A quiet location 0.
“8 miles from Portree. The cottage was better than we imagined, plenty of books to look through in the evening with a nice glass of wine. The summer house was great, sitting with the doors open, listening to the wild life all around. We enjoyed it that much we are going to stay for a fortnight in 2014. In one short way to describe it, 'out of this world'.”- Mr Ballantyne, September 2013
Quiet and very nice, a very beautiful place, to be recommended.- Mr Dercy, July 2013
Warm, cosy cottage - quick to heat in cold weather.
“Accessible location for Portree & Western side of island.”- Mrs Remmer, April 2013
Excellent accommodation, warm, cosy, well appointed as a base to explore this magnificent island.
“Outstanding scenery dominated by the coastline, a sense of timelessness.”- Mrs Ashby, October 2012
