  • "All soft furnishings had been removed due to Covid - not sure that was 100% necessary - made it less comfortable and welcoming."

No welcome pack either which surprised us but no big deal - we came for the beautiful scenery and walks!

Warm welcome when we arrived. Good Covid procedures in place and good information before hand.

It was spotlessly clean, very cosy . The facilities were excellent. We could not fault it in any way. 5* accommodation.

  • "Be aware that the roads in this area are part of the North Coast 500 and at peak times there are a lot of camper vans, motorcycle groups and exotic sports cars doing the circuit."

These can be a bit troublesome on narrow and single carriage roads - you just have to be patient.

  • "We had a great week in Poolewe!"

We really enjoyed staying in the cottage - it was just what we were looking for. Close to the shop, a nice walk to Inverewe Gardens, peaceful, a short drive to Gairloch & an ideal base to explore the walks & beaches in the area. The cottage was comfortable, clean & spacious. We hope to return sometime soon.

Despite the exceedingly wet and windy weather for most of our stay, we had a most enjoyable holiday; I think we would like to come back here, hopefully in better weather.

The beds are really comfortable providing an excellent nights sleep after a full day touring the beautiful countryside. If your eating out locally options are limited to the Poolewe Hotel a very nice meal but you do need to book to ensure a table, likewise around poolewe if you are planning to eat out you need to book to ensure a table. If you want a takeway the Chip shop in Gariloch is great, good value and a brillant fish and chip meal. The local market in Poolewe is a must visit, thats on a Tuesday morning All in all a great prlce a super cottage

  • "We have just returned after spending a super week in Corriness House."

It was exceptionally clean , well furnished , well equipped , lovely and warm and very easy to find on the main road through Poolewe ( no traffic noise though ) . It is well positioned for visiting all the amenities in the local area - Inverewe is less than a mile up the road and there are some nice beaches nearby - Firepoint and Redpoint in particular along with Gairloch. If you turn left out of the property and walk 100 yards there is an honesty box often dispensing real free range eggs £ 3 per dozen .I can thoroughly recommend this property.

About the location

Dingwall 50 miles; Ullapool 50 miles.

The pretty village of Poolewe sits in the shelter of Loch Ewe, at the mouth of the River Ewe where it tumbles down from Loch Maree. It is a pretty place in an area of spectacular scenery and is home to a well-stocked shop, small swimming pool and two hotels. The world-renowned Inverewe Garden (National Trust for Scotland) is half a mile across the bay from the village. The site was developed by the botanist Osgood Mackenzie from 1862 until his death in 1922. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, it is home to exotic plants, imported from all over the world – a must for all visitors to the area. Firemore beach is five miles to the west and north along the coast is Gruinard Bay with its striking sands; a series of attractive beaches skirt the bay and a number are easily reached from the main road. With spectacular scenery, mountains, excellent hillwalking, golf, fishing, wildlife cruises and much more, this is a great area for a holiday!
