  • "Overall the cottage was clean and comfortable, with good kitchen facilities for those like us who would be self-catering."

Excellent all-round mountain views and the Loch at the end of the lane. A minor point is, if you are a family who uses more than one. Hand/bath towel a week, take extra with you as only one towel per person is provided. Otherwise an excellent choice for a holiday.

Had a great stay here, amazing views across the loch, the property itself was well maintained and kitted out, including a hand blender in the kitchen

  • "Great house."

Disabled facilities excellent although a folding or movable shower seat would be useful in the accessible toilet. ( We took our own foldable)The closomat bidet toilets were an added bonus. A softer seat maybe for the accessible toilet? Overall a great house for disabled guests.

  • "Had a great week in Tigh Ur, with fantastic weather!"

The setting in Ratagan is amazing, with views across Loch Duich and of the Five Sisters without even having to go outside! And unobscured views by walking 50m down to the loch side. The house itself was nicer than I thought from the photos - especially the living room, dining room and kitchen, which is well kitted out with cooking utensils, etc. If I was being really picky I would say the bathrooms are getting a little tired, but it doesn't really detract overall. The Wifi is reliable and fast enough to stream Sky Sports/iPlayer without any problems. The Kintail Lodge is a good option for evening meals but best to book ahead. It's about 2 miles away - took us 40 mins to walk. The Jet petrol station on the other side of the loch has a reasonably well stocked shop for groceries etc.

  • "We had a wonderful time."

Tigh Ur was beautifully presented, comfortable, very well equipped and spacious for our extended family of four adults and one child. The position in the hamlet of Rattagan is excellent, about 50m from the loch shore, with extensive views in that direction and over the Five Sisters ridge from the huge living room windows. Rattagan and Glen Shiel are perfect for an outdoor getaway. We swam in the loch and river pools (there are some lovely spots near the campsite in Morvich). We climbed some of the mountains and ran along the glens and very quiet back roads. We also spent a lovely hour at dusk watching porpoise and a family of otters playing close to the loch shore about one mile from the cottage. The brochs at Glen Elg are well worth a visit, it’s a lovely drive. We went to Sligachan in Skye for lunch and on to Portree, both easily accessible. All in all it was perfect and it was a real wrench to leave. We will be back - part of me is still there!

  • "Spacious, well-equipped bungalow perfectly located for numerous walks in the area, and about 30 mins drive from Skye."

We even managed a dip in the loch - two minutes from the front door. Thanks for a lovely place.

About the location

DORNIE

Kyle of Lochalsh 9 miles.

The picturesque village of Dornie sits amidst the stunning West Highland countryside, just nine miles from the bustling village of Kyle of Lochalsh. The village itself, a walker’s paradise, offers good amenities including a village shop, a local pub and numerous walking and cycling opportunities, with stunning views of the coastline and mountainous regions beyond to be enjoyed. Nearby Kyle of Lochalsh, known as the gateway to the Isle of Skye, offers a range of shops, hotels and restaurants and boasts a busy harbour that plays host to a variety of cargo, fishing and occasional passenger vessels. Nearby Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland's most famous and popular sights, is perched at the end of a stone causeway on the shores of Loch Duich, whilst further south is the Glenelg Peninsula, a tranquil backwater, which is beautiful, remote and relatively undiscovered. An easy drive north of Kyle is the charming village of Plockton, famous for its palm trees, yacht-filled bay and the nearby hamlet of Duirinish with Highland cattle which wander the streets! Alternatively, cross the Skye Bridge to Skye itself and explore all that the mystical Isle has to offer.
