About the location

ULLAPOOL

Inverness 57 miles.

Ullapool, nestling on the shores of Loch Broom and overlooking the Summer Isles, is the largest settlement in Wester Ross.

This picturesque town was designed in the 18th Century by Thomas Telford and boasts delightful, whitewashed buildings and is also the main terminus for the ferry to Stornoway, the principal town in the Western Isles.

The town offers some lovely pubs and restaurants, a range of shops including a well-stocked supermarket, a challenging coastal golf course and a museum and Visitor Centre on West Argyle Street for those wishing to discover more about the area.

The museum covers a range of topics including crofting, fishing, emigration and the history of the town.

Ullapool is also an ideal base from which to explore the North West of Scotland, with most of the main tourist attractions an easy drive away.

The National Trust for Scotland Inverewe Gardens, created by Osgood MacKenzie who collected plants from all parts of the world, is a particular highlight..
