I think you need to try it out for yourself the woman that runs the property is not a very nice person on the one occasion we met her in the week we were there we asked about the tv not working we went the hole week without it working also we left it clean and tidy but she sent me a message saying she wasnt happy with us we left five small bottles of shower gel and bars of individual rapped soap for next person we also left tins of food unopened for next person she said she had to bin it I don't believe that she has a point about the grill I forgot to clean it but she wasn't happy with the state of the kitchen rubbish everything else was left the way we found it also she really needs to stop using stevie wonder to decorate her property it's a mess would never use or reccomend it

  • "There were two of us on this holiday."

The cottage was excellent for our purpose. We had only one problem and that was with the wifi on one occasion. However, the owner fixed it as soon as we brought it to her attention - excellent service!

  • "We received a hospitable welcome from the owner, with clear explanation of how the heating worked and a tour of the accommodation."

Whilst the accommodation could sleep 6 people (2 doubles and 1 twin as listed) - it would be far too much of a squash for that number. - I went with one friend - a third person would have been ok, but more than that would not have worked. The kitchen is small - the range of utensils was good. - the fridge was far too small for 6 people should they wish to self cater every evening having done a substantial supermarket shop - the table would only seat its maximum 4 if it was pulled out from the wall, making the rest of the kitchen unusable. - the toaster was too small - it would not fully toast a standard size slice of bread.- the lino was loose. - there is no dish-washer. - the kitchen knives were sharp. The kitchen hot / cold taps were the opposite way round from normal practice. The living room was comfortable although there was no BBC reception for our week. The owner acknowledged this and gave £10 discount. The bathroom was dated - bathroom door, sink unit etc. The information pack included an inventory - I have never come across this before - and an itemised list of replacement costs for breakages - I regard this as petty. - Once the owner realised that it was just the two of us in residence, she rapidly took back extra towels - she had no need to do this - we wouldn't have used things unecessarily. - again, this seemed petty. Radiators were modern and effective - we were able to dry wet clothes from our days in the hills. Security / parking / cleanliness etc were all good. However, as a 6 person accommodation, this property is mis-sold and substantially over-priced at £800. I recommend that you revisit it to assess it for yourself. It was not good value. I paid substantially less for a larger property on Harris through a different company earlier this year (although communication wasnt nearly as proactive or clear as that I receive from Sykes). I would be interested to know how Sykes arrives at what it considers to be a price that is good value to the owner and the user. This property would have worked better if the downstairs bedroom became the sitting room, with the existing sitting room as a dining area. This would mean that the kitchen would solely be the place to prepare food, rather than also being a place to eat (it could not possibly seat 6 people - see above, 4 chairs, table pushed in any case against a wall - 6 people would have needed to have eaten their meal at this one table in shifts. - this would have detracted very much from the experience) In the event that you revisit and reassess the property, and agree with me that it is substantially over-priced, you might wish to communicate with me in line with your policy in dealing with customers who raise issues about value and quality that you are able to substantiate for yourself. Please publish the feedback by all means. More importantly, I hope that you will act on it. I would be only too pleased to give your company a higher rating than 5/10 in future. Certainly, my previous experiences of your company have been better than this one. The owner is a nice, amenable person, but she may have been misadvised to present this as a 6 person accommodation at commmensurate cost. This should be reviewed in order to prevent disappointment and perhaps stronger comment of disappointment from a larger party. If this is not acceptable to the owner, you might consider deleting this accommodation from your listings as it has not served your company's reputation well. I will not re-use this accommodation. I will continue to search for good value self catering accommodation in the Scottish Highlands for my small group of friends to enjoy a week of walking in the hills. We have done this for the last 25 years, including Sykes accommodation. With best intention to the owner and to Sykes' reputation. I am happy to correspond further if this helps.

  • "The couches and beds were very uncomfortable, far too low couches with cushions that gave no suport and it felt like the springs were gone."

On arrival the TV had only the basic ITV chanels, no BBC whatsoever was told an engineer had been summoned to rectify but did not appear during the entire week, there was someone in all week to allow access as I had a broken leg and could not go out. The rest of the family had a wonderful time.

The floor in the kitchen was dirty hence I had to clean it myself, the laminate on the kitchen doors is starting to peel giving the kitchen a look of dowdiness. The settee was very uncomfortable there was no padding in the seats and the settee arm was badly sunken. The bathroom looked and felt dirty. All in all the whole cottage is in need of a total refurbishment.Would not return to this cottage

  • "Had an enjoyable week at Ardvreck Cottage, nice place in a nice town, enjoyed our time in Ullapool, we've been before in the past and I'm sure we'll be back in the future, don't usually stay in one place for more than a couple of days so this was a bit of a first for us but would definitely consider doing it again."

    Thanks. Keith and Kath.

  • "Ullapool is a lovely town in an exceptionally scenic area."

..great for walks and sightseeing. The cottage is well located...just a short walk to shops, restaurants and the harbour. The cottage is as described and is comfortable and clean. It is great for a couple but I do feel that although there are 3 bedrooms there is not a great deal of space for eating in the kitchen for 6. Fine for two. Also just one bathroom and toilet is fine for two people. The beds are comfortable and there is an outdoor area to sit. The tv reception is poor...BBC is very hit and miss but we were not there to watch television so no problem for us. The kitchen is well equipped although no dishwasher. There is plenty of storage space. We enjoyed our stay in this cottage .

  • "I found the booking experience with Sykes fairly easy, very friendly and efficient too."

I was kept up to date and well informed with all aspects of my booking. A most professional attitude. Staying at Ardvreck Cottage in Ullapool was also a very nice experience. Mrs. H. MacDonald came out to greet us (from next door) and was very helpful and informative with everything. Our privacy was respected yet we were only a few steps away in case we needed any help. All in all, I am very pleased to have booked Ardvreck Cottage with Sykes. Well done Sykes and the owners of Ardvreck Cottage. Thank You all very much!

  • "This is a lovely cottage."

Great location for getting around Ullapool. The cottage is very comfortable and has large bedrooms with plenty of space for your clothes. The outside space is ideal for eating outside and is very private. The kitchen is well equipped with a good size fridge freezer. Overall it is a good base for visiting the area.

About the location

Inverness 57 miles.

Ullapool, nestling on the shores of Loch Broom and overlooking the Summer Isles, is the largest settlement in Wester Ross. This picturesque town was designed in the 18th Century by Thomas Telford and boasts delightful, whitewashed buildings and is also the main terminus for the ferry to Stornoway, the principal town in the Western Isles. The town offers some lovely pubs and restaurants, a range of shops including a well-stocked supermarket, a challenging coastal golf course and a museum and Visitor Centre on West Argyle Street for those wishing to discover more about the area. The museum covers a range of topics including crofting, fishing, emigration and the history of the town. Ullapool is also an ideal base from which to explore the North West of Scotland, with most of the main tourist attractions an easy drive away. The National Trust for Scotland Inverewe Gardens, created by Osgood MacKenzie who collected plants from all parts of the world, is a particular highlight.
