“Unfortunately as our cycling event was cancelled due to the weather, we didn't travel to the accommodation.”

I can't give feedback on the cottage as we never went but as it wasn't the owners fault I have added positive feedback above on the facilities etc. Disappointed in Sykes cottages for not issuing even part refund. Complete waste of £653 :(

“When we arrived luckily the maintenance guys were still there other wise id never be able to get in as i was never sent a key code.”

The lady who greeted us told us if we shut the gates then we may struggle to open them, baring in mind we had toddlers running around so we closed the gates and when she turned up to clean they were both very rude and got very annoyed the gates were closed. For a property that is meant to be child friendly they have am arga that you can't touch because its so hot so trying to keep kids away was difficult. The garden was lovely but that's the only perk. We found the property very basic and uncomfortable. The ladies who were cleaning after we left were so rude and it really ruined our experience. Ive booked with sykes before and its been lovely, unfortunately not this time

“The White Cottage is well equipped and spacious.”

We enjoyed a family holiday in the cottage and everyone slept well in comfortable beds. The cottage was warm despite the cold spring. We found some great walks along the beach at West Wittering. The cottage is very near Fishbourne Roman Palace which is a very well curated reconstructed villa sight with garden. We really enjoyed our stay.

The property

This beautiful, detached holiday home is located along a leafy lane just outside the main village of Birdham, only three miles from Chichester.

From the moment you step inside this immaculately presented cottage you will feel a sense of relaxation.

Large, light and beautifully furnished, this lovely cottage offers couples and families the ideal place to stay when visiting this part of the South Coast.

Four attractive bedrooms are each furnished with care and attention to detail so that guests can enjoy a truly relaxing holiday.

The ground floor bedroom with its adult-size bunk beds and en-suite shower room will have children (young and old) looking forward to bedtime!

With its beachy theme, books, games and younger girl's dressing table and mirror, parents will find their offspring quietly absorbed for hours on end.

Meanwhile, the adults can chat and exchange views over a long, lingering meal in the large garden room of this lovely cottage where, be it summer or winter, it offers a pleasant atmosphere with either heat or fans to maintain a comfortable temperature all year round.

Alternatively, guests can venture through the French doors and dine alfresco on the patio overlooking the well-established, extensive gardens that are also a joy to explore, with views over to Chichester Cathedral and Goodwood with only countryside in between.

Just remember the unfenced pond, which also shares this lovely garden as you amble along!

Only a few minutes from The White Cottage are dozens of places to visit if sailing, watersports or the coastline take your interest.

Why not explore the numerous walks along the canals and the marina, just two miles away, where you can promise yourself that one day you will have a yacht like that?

West Wittering is said to have the sandiest beach in Sussex, so make for there to feel the sand between your toes.

Alternatively, pull on a wet-suit and enjoy a day of watersports where the bay waves are excellent at any time of year.

Chichester city centre is only a short drive away and here there are cobbled streets and winding lanes, restaurants, shops, tea rooms, museums, theatres and a towering cathedral; a perfect choice for a day out with a difference.

This part of the Sussex coastline has so much to offer to all ages which will have you coming back again and again.

BIRDHAM

West Wittering 3 miles; Chichester 4 miles; Selsey 5 miles; Pagham Harbour 6 miles; Goodwood 8 miles; Arundel 12 miles.

Birdham, an historic village in West Sussex, sits on the shores of Chichester Harbour Conservancy, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area is hugely popular with the sailing fraternity with yachting marinas at nearby Birdham Pool and Chichester Marina, as well as the established sailing villages of Itchenor, Bosham, Cobnor and Dell Quay. There are plenty of boat tours and trips available, which are a great way to see the peninsula from the sea. Birdham is also very popular with holidaymakers looking to enjoy family days out as it's just a few miles from the lovely safe, golden beaches at West Wittering and the unspoilt sand dunes of East Head. You can try windsurfing or paddle-boarding at the West Wittering Windsurfing Club, or bring a BBQ to the beach and enjoy the views of boats sailing across the sea to Hayling Island and the Isle of Wight. The area has many interesting places to walk and cycle, including the 13-mile long Salterns Way from Chichester to East Head. Horseriding is also popular, with lessons and livery available locally. Of course a visit to this part of Sussex would not be complete without spending a day exploring the historic city of Chichester with its shops, restaurants, quaint tea rooms and the imposing site of Chichester Cathedral. Why not stay on for the evening and visit the theatre? Alternatively, if you are looking for somewhere offering a little more excitement on your vacation, then plan for a day out at Goodwood; famous all over the world for its annual Goodwood Revival, Festival of Speed and Glorious Goodwood. The race track hosts regular horse racing meetings where you may win (or lose) your fortune! Once graced by the likes of Stirling Moss, the car circuit also offers the chance to book a classic or supercar driving experience, or take to the skies in a WW2 airplane with one of Goodwood’s flying instructors. Goodwood House, home to the Earl and Countess of March, provides a dramatic backdrop to one of the most significant private art collections in the country, and is open to the public two days a week during the main season. Birdham may be a small, quiet Sussex village, but it offers a warm welcome and with so much to see and do it will have you coming back time after time.
