    The only slight disappointment were the small single beds which were not particularly comfortable. Other than that the accommodation and facilities were top class. One of our most enjoyable holidays.

The property

In the village of Netley Abbey, discover 30 Osborne Quarters, a beautifully built cottage part of a unique development set within the 200 acres of the Royal Victoria Country Park.

Discover walks through the park, along Southampton Water, the city sights of Southampton, or venture into the New Forest National Park or South Downs National Park close by.

Arrive and take in the quaint cottage style of the development before entering the property.

Herringbone wood floors greet you and take you first to the contemporary bathroom, here you can find a bath with a shower over within this fully tiled room.

Head past a handy utility cupboard which holds the washing machine, and continue down the hall to see the lovely bedroom; here you have twin beds.

If you're looking to wind down into the evening, delight in finding a peaceful spot in the open-plan living space; a woodburning stove rests in the corner to warm you as you watch TV, with armchairs or the sofa bed to settle on.

Prepare a meal in the sleek kitchen which has all the appliances you need for a self-catered stay; you can perch at the granite breakfast bar with your morning coffee.

Enjoy your own outdoor space with an enclosed lawn and a patio area with seating, perfect for a sunny afternoon.

Explore your surroundings in the historic Royal Victoria Country Park, once the site of the world's largest hospital, all that now remains is the iconic chapel, which in now a Military uniform museum, and the extensive grounds.

Entertain all ages here with play areas for children, barbecue sites, as well as a café and shop.

Visit the neighbouring village of Hamble-le-Rice, which is a short drive or a 30 minute walk along the beach and the Strawberry Trail, where you can wander along the shores of Hamble Common Beach, or head up along River Hamble to watch the sailing boats come and go.

If you are feeling more adventurous, you can find opportunities for sailing, boating, and RYA instructed courses or tailored cruises .

Marwell Zoo is a great day out, set just within the South Downs National Park and around a 30-minute drive away.

The city of Southampton offers culture and entertainment with many shops, restaurants and several theatres, all alongside its rich history as a port town since 1843.This property provides easy access to St Mary's Football stadium and to The Rose Bowl Cricket Ground as well as ferries to the Isle of Wight.

Hamble-le-Rice 3.5 miles; Southampton 4 miles.

This diverse, south Hampshire village is located on the eastern shores of Southampton Water, beside the Royal Victoria Country Park. The village takes its name from the 13th century Cistercian monastery there, its well-preserved ruins still remaining today. The heart of the village retains some of its traditional charm and is proud of its waterside heritage, with ample opportunities for sailing in the nearby village of Hamble-le-Rice. Nearby, The Royal Victoria Country Park was the site of The Royal Victoria Hospital, the first purpose-built military hospital. Now, all that remains is the hospital chapel and 200 acres of wood and parkland. There are lovely walks to explore and a variety of wildlife, as well as spectacular views from the top of the 150 foot chapel tower across Southampton Water, one of the busiest shipping canals in the country. Together with its beautiful setting, tea rooms and a narrow gauge railway, the park provides visitors with a fascinating day out. Netley lies within very easy reach of Southampton and its impressive range of attractions. There is an easy drive to the New Forest, as well as Portsmouth's historic dockyard, home to the magnificent HMS Victory, and Gunwharf Quays, a retail outlet perched on the waterside. This south Hampshire waterside village is a convenient base from which to explore this fascinating area.
