“Unacceptably the cottage owners were completely uncontactable.”

We rang them on arrival day as the ferry was over 2 hours late (ferry taken out of service) and we had a food order arriving but no one answered the phone. The laundry is for the business not guests and was constantly working. It was locked closed at weekends but then failed to open on the Monday morning of our second week by which time we needed to wash essential items. So again we rang the owners and got an answer phone which said the messages were monitored and we'd get a return call in an ...

The laundry is for the business not guests and was constantly working. It was locked closed at weekends but then failed to open on the Monday morning of our second week by which time we needed to wash essential items. So again we rang the owners and got an answer phone which said the messages were monitored and we'd get a return call in an hour- a comprehensive timed message was left but no returned call. Totally unacceptable. After several visits on Tuesday evening I caught one machine which had ended so hauled the towels out to be able to use the machine. There was no promised tumble drier and no pegs or clothes prop so had to balance items on a line to try to get them dry- unacceptable not to be able to do a wash on a 2 week holiday. The hot water stopped working on bank holiday Sunday and we had to google the boiler instructions to reset it. This again happened later in the holiday. I ran a bath but the water ran cold so it was unusable. We are trying to contact the owners to advise them to get it serviced. The cottage layout/ rooms/ sizes are excellent but the equipment needs improving. Unacceptably there is only one wardrobe in the property (with 16 hangers) for 4 adults. The second bedroom is big enough to have its own wardrobe and it was inconvenient to have those guests coming into the master bedroom to get clothing. The kitchen is poorly equiped- plates and cutlery etc for 6 only which meant hand washing up after breakfast as all crockery and cutlery was required for the evening meal and it wasn't felt appropriate to put the dishwasher on for such a small number of items. There was one small vegetable knife only- so we bought knifes to be able to meat, bread etc. There is a missing plug cover in the master shower tray leaving a large open plug hole to step over and a badly cracked floor tile in the kitchen and no chains the master bathroom plugs making them very fiddly to use- all routine maintenance issues. We stayed for 2 weeks and had to ask for fresh towels in the second week- and although I delivered the dirty towels to the laundry the fresh ones took several hours to be left outside the door. There were no cleaning products so the bathrooms were 'scummy' in the second week. So a fabulous cottage became disappointing with no response from the owners at all, having to fight for access to a washing machine and poor equipment.

Marengo and Seabiscuit are both accessible for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. Our Marengo cottage sleeps five guests, whilst Sefton sleeps six and Seabiscuit sleeps a total of seven guests. Designated parking can be found to the cottages with an additional general car park available by the Equestrian Centre.
