  • "Well presented property, clean and tidy with everything you need for a holiday."

Enjoyed the space and views, weather was kind to us considering October. We had an issue with the toaster, tripping the contact breaker, quick message to the wonderful Liz, and a brand new 4 slice one appeared. We were alittle concerned about the mould and what we thought was damp in the cloakroom, only to discover this was infact caused by a leak from the bathroom on our last morning, the ceiling was black with mould and must have been a long-term leak. The condition of that ceiling was not an overnight thing and shocked us. We were also annoyed on the state of the garden, a jungle at the rear and just untidy at the front, upon reading through other reviews this had already been recorded. Did not spoil our hols as we spent no time in the garden. We advise by mid week work had commenced in the rear garden.

and the weather was amazing, warm and sunny every day. The beds were comfortable and the sitting room was large and spacious with good views of the town and coastline. The kitchen was well equipped with a very good cooker. The only disappointing thing was the garden seemed neglected with weeds growing round the house and the lawn uncut.

Very interesting house to stay in loads of space and facilities including children’s playroom. It was clean and tidy with a well equipped kitchen. Great views of the sea from living room and bedrooms. Only a 10 min walk to the sea front.

We were disappointed that having said we were bringing children with us the garden both front and back was inaccessable due to the grass and bushes being overgrown and in need of maintenance so we could'nt bbq Also the tv was mostly pixelated on most channels which also made it quite difficult with children with special needs for the price we paid we feel this could have been rectified with a different system cable or the like we loved the property and all the space it provided and its central location the housekeeper was very helpful also sadly because of the above issues we are booking a different property for our annual 2 weeks to this wonderful island

I’m sorry to hear that you found the grass overgrown, although it certainly isn’t “inaccessible”. The weather has made it difficult to maintain this to the level we would like. The TV signal does get pixellated in bad weather, and in the last year we have completely reinstalled the aerial connection, which we were told would solve this problem. We have also upgraded the web connection to the house to Wightfibre’s full fibre broadband, with their Plume network throughout the house, which provides an alternative way to access video on the TV and on your own devices. Our housekeeper, Liz Dobson, also tells us that she visited the property twice while you were staying there, and that you did not raise these problems with her at the time. • "Property very spacious and clean on arrival."

Nice welcome basket and it has lovely views from bedroom windows and upstairs lounge of the solent. The property is nicely positioned in Ryde town just up the top, making it nice and quiet but easy to get to shops and the esplanade. The road outside the property is a busy junction so need to take care when driving in and out but once done the first time it becomes a lot easier. I know the owners are looking to do some upgrading later in the year which will all add to its appeal, the upstairs shower we did not use as recommended by the owners but luckily the downstairs shower is great. Its a shame the back garden does not have a nice seating area at the moment as it would be great if it did as it's quieter and away from the road and especially as this week we had lovely weather it would have been nice to sit there at the end of the day. We have a small dog and always check the enclosure of the garden before we let her roam free and the front gates to the property can be secured well so dogs could not get out. Unfortunately however our dog unbeknown to us did find a hole in the bushes which we could not see and she ended up to our horror on the road outside! We checked the house all over not believing she could have got out, by which time a fantastic couple had spotted her and scooped her up and phoned us using her collar details. We were eternally grateful and think ourselves lucky she came to no injury. We therefore had to keep her on lead in the garden thereafter so beware if your dog is small and obviously adventurous! I would however recommend this property as it is certainly unique and well placed for a great holiday in the gorgeous IOW.

The house was very clean and had all the facilities needed for our holiday. The views from the bedrooms to the pier especially at night, were stunning. In the evening if we wanted to relax as a family, we had a beautiful comfy living area from where we could see over to the sea on the left and the town in front of us. There was a lovely welcome picnic basket on arrival and fresh towels, linen and even toiletries available including shower gels, shampoos etc in both bathrooms. We would highly recommend a stay here and shall definitely return.

Hot tap in the upstairs toilet didn’t work & we were also advised not to use the shower in the bathroom which was a little inconvenient. The house is in a great location in Ryde, near all amenities and great with parking space. Great kitchen and utility room to store wet gear. It says dog friendly but we were only advised that dogs were not allowed upstairs. Sykes really need to put this information in their property details.

Thank you for your kind remarks about the house, the kitchen and the utility room. The shower in the upstairs bath was installed only recently - at the same time that the downstairs shower was completely refurbished -and is, unfortunately having some teething problems, with water spraying into the floor. We are working to get this fixed. If you had mentioned the issue of the hot tap to us while you were staying we would have asked the housekeeper to investigate at the time. Property Owner

  • "A very nice and quirky property."

Having the lounge upstairs was nice as you get to see the Solent, however we spent most of our time in the kitchen as it was cooler. The property was bigger than expected and clean throughout. The housekeeper was easy to get hold of if there was anything you needed. Ideally situated for town as you were at the top, and so no car needed if you wanted to try out the many pubs/restaurants. Short walk to the beach also. One suggestion I would make is that the downstairs games room is wasted, and I think it would make a perfect bedroom for someone with mobility issues, as the games table could be put into the childrens room. It is ideal for the downstairs to Ian’s shower room, and they can access the front door, or if one step is ok, they can access he room through the kitchen. Overall it was a great holiday, and I thank the owners for sharing such a beautiful property with Sykes. Would definitely recommend

Thank you for the comments. The television Reception can be erratic, although the aerial has recently been redirected to point to the Carisbrooke transmitter, which is the closest. This is one of the reasons that the house is stocked with a range of DVDs for guests to use. Some guests have also found the wifi signal good enough to use Netflix or iPlayer. The garden is regularly maintained, so I am surprised by the comments about this. Around the edges, where the trees and bushes are, we do like to encourage some biodiversity, which is good for people and the planet. We also let the hedges grow between March and September because birds nest in them. Property Owner

  • "Most properties, and we've stayed in lots, don't have particularly comfortable chairs and sofas, and Hunters was no different."

The biggest problems however were the bed mattresses. I had noticed a review mentioning this as a possible issue but it was far worse than expected. I had a half hour rest on the main bed on arrival and it was so hard I couldn't relax. When I tried to stand up I was already getting back pain - at this point I thought we would have to go home straight away. Of the total of EIGHT mattresses in the property, we managed to find just TWO which had a tiny bit of give and where just about sleepable on. My hubby and I slept on these two in separate rooms. Had there been more of us I don't think we could have stayed. Having used firm beds all my life, I had never come across anything as hard as this or even close. The location was just what we wanted but we couldn't consider staying again because of the discomfort.

We always welcome feedback from our visitors. The beds and the mattresses in the house are all reasonably new, and were bought from the Isle of Wight’s leading supplier. While we appreciate that mattresses are very much a matter of personal taste, we have not had comments about these before. Property Owner

Perfect holiday location if only the weather had co operated!! Only issues were that the cooker extractor need cleaning as it drips oil onto cooker when in use and are they aware of the window by front door that has has looks like a stone chip damage.

Thanks for mentioning these two issues, which were unaware of. We have asked our housekeeper to take another look at the cooker extractor. As for the door, I fear that a car has thrown up a stone from the drive when leaving or arranging, but we'll plan to get this sorted as soon as there's a break in the lettings. And, of course, we're sorry that the weather was so unco-operative. Property Owner

  • "This property was perfect for a family holiday with children and dogs."

The property was generously equipped with games, linen and best of all, heat! It was not luxurious but that wasn’t what we wanted and there was a really homely feel about the house which was spacious and a bit quirky. Obviously the upside down nature wouldn’t suit everyone particularly someone with limited mobility but was fine for us. The views from the windows were spectacular and the nearness to the town meant we could pop out to shops and restaurants easily. The owners gave us thorough information about the house which was very welcome. Just a small point hopefully to help. The bathroom was tricky in that the bath is very deep and needed the availability of a good non slip mat. Apologies if we just didn’t find it! A small child’s step would have been appreciated for our younger children to reach the washbasin and for ease of access to the bath. As it was, we just avoided using it. The kitchen was well equipped but a few more beer sized glasses would have been good. Apart from that this was a gem of a house and we would consider staying there again.

  • "The property is in a great location and is very big but it was not clean."

The shower needs some attention and is smelly which makes the downstairs area have an unpleasant damp smell. The bathroom wasn’t clean either. I have never seen such dirty plugs in the sinks covered in gunge and hair. The bedrooms are comfy but are furnished very basically and only one room has proper wardrobes. The sitting room is pleasant but the tv reception is poor. The kitchen is nice and well equipped but the fridge and cutlery tray had to be cleaned before we used them. The garden needs attention as there are bits of electrical wire and scaffolding around which are not safe for young children or dogs. I was surprised that it had been given 4 stars by Sykes as I expected more cleanliness and comfort for this star rating.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the issues you have noted during your stay. Since we started with Sykes yours is the first feedback which notes any cleanliness issues, so this was a huge shock to us. We have also never had any previous issues with damp. Our welcome pack--which is in the kitchen, and which we also send to all guests a week ahead of your stay--has the number of our housekeeper on the first page, with an invitation to call her if you have any questions about maintenance or housekeeping. If only you had called her, she would have been there as soon as possible to rectify any issues that you were concerned about. We did also check in with the Sykes office and confirmed that nothing was reported to them during your stay. We wish that you had got in touch with us, since we want to ensure you have a great time while staying at Hunters. With regard to the scaffolding, this was the result of some renovation work from our neighbour (now finished). We apologise if there were some pieces that had come into the garden as a result of their work. Again, had you made us aware of the issue during your stay, we would have been more than happy to come and sort this out for you. Thank you for staying with us. Property Owner
