About the location
Southampton; 7 Winchester; 7
Chandler's Ford is a southern Hampshire town situated close to Romsey, and on the edge of the old railway town of Eastleigh, midway between Southampton and Winchester. The town's name derives from the fords which had to be crossed on the old road to Winchester. Although now known as a business centre, Eastleigh itself lies on the banks of the River Itchen, a well known chalk stream beloved by fly fishermen.Good transport links, by, road, rail, or plane (from nearby Southampton Airport), mean that this area is very easily accessible, and offers visitors an excellent touring base from which to explore this diverse area of the south. Nearby Romsey is well worth a visit, where you can enjoy Broadlands house and gardens, former home of the Mountbatten family, or the beautiful Abbey. Whilst the New Forest National Park offers you a tranquil rural setting, home to deer, wild ponies and cattle. The younger members of your group will adore a trip to Peppa Pig World at Poultons Park, or how about a day out to Marwell Zoo, both a short drive. For a retail therapy experience, look no further than Southampton's West Quay, whilst nearby Winchester provides you with a fascinating and historic day out. It will be hard to choose from all the attractions on offer, whilst enjoying your stay in this interesting area.
