  • "We had a wonderful stay - there was a warm welcome from the owners with a basket of homemade goodies, the location is lovely (I don’t think I’ve ever heard so many birds singing in the mornings) and the property was cosy and clean."

  • "The Folly is a very special place."

Small yet comfortable with everything you need, including a beautiful garden to use. It’s very peaceful. The owners are exceptionally thoughtful and generous. Lots to do in the area, gardens and National Trust properties, as well as a village close by with pubs and good restaurants. It’s great place to stay. The inner spiral staircase is as shown on the photographs. Tight but caused us no bother - especially as the shower room is upstairs. We plan to return. It’s too beguiling a place not to.

We enjoyed the peace, quiet and beautiful gardens. We received a warm welcome and some visits from Barney the dog! The welcome basket of goodness was excellent and the bread and jam was delicious. Thanks too, to Barney for the gift of dog biscuits for our Missy xx The Indian takeaway and Sunday lunch at the Sal are recommended. All very lovely! May just need to be aware the stairs could be a challenge for some. However, this is pointed out on the listing. Many thanks

Very quirky, but very high quality. The bed was very comfortable. The garden was amazing, and it was great to be able to let our cocker, ‘Dylan’ ,wander around it safely at his leisure, as well as for ourselves. Annie and Jim were great hosts, and the welcome basket was very much appreciated. The bread , jam and beer went down very well (still enjoying the extra loaf Annie made now) and Dylan enjoyed his dog biscuits from ‘Barney’. Would not hesitate to recommend this as a great peaceful getaway for a couple and a four legged friend!. Mike and Jo.

The owners, Jim and Annie were just fantastic, so obliging and very generous in allowing us to wander around their gorgeous garden. The welcome basket was a real treat full of all sorts of lovely goodies, especially the home made bread and jam. The sunsets are amazing from the garden. We walked to Weobley, a beautiful village not too far. Highly recommend Jules Restaurant and also The Saltuation pub, both allow dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Folly and will definitely book again as it was such a special place.

Had everything we needed for a weekend peaceful getaway. Even though we had three storms (starting with Eunice..) we loved our long weekend at the Folly. Our hosts were super helpful and welcoming. Fabulous welcome hamper on arrival. The folly was plenty warm enough though the grim weather. Bed super comfy and lovely shower with good water pressure to warm up after local dog walks in the rain and wind... We would highly recommend this unique property and look forward to another visit when the weather is better - we definitely chose the worse weekend this year for a weekend break....

  • "The spiral staircase is not for everybody, although it is noted on your website, it does not indicate that it must be one of the tightest spirals that are legally considered safe."

many adults either sight impaired or overweight would not get upstairs safely. Ditto the bathroom which is so small that when you sit on the seat the lid closes on to your back, the sink is a tiny corner sink making it impossible for a man to shave if he doesn’t use an electric razor. The cooking facilities are adequate for breakfast- but nothing further - the combi oven is at floor level so unless you like getting on to your knees to use an oven it is less than ideal. The 2 eating places in Weobley were closed Monday and Tuesday evening, so with poor cooking facilities, it was more than disappointing. All of these points should be made clear on your website. The Folly is quirky and attractive. The couch was comfy, ditto the bed. Jim , the owner , gave us a friendly welcome and his wife, Annie sent us friendly texts. We expected it to be ‘compact’, but not to come with such important negatives. A pleasant setting does not make up for the negatives. We would not return and could not recommend. We are in our 60’s, slim and active. What would happen if visitors arrive who are neither slim nor agile, whatever their age? We have wasted our holiday money and feel that others. Should not be put in the same situation. The price was paid for nights for such drawbacks was inadequate and misleading.

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your stay at The Folly and would not return, we are surprised to hear your comments as we have only received positive reviews from our past customers. When greeting guests we always ensure that our details are available and to get in touch if there is anything we can assist with, as well as providing a welcome pack in the property to make sure our guests stay is successful, which are surprised to receive this review as we had not been contacted with any of your concerns during your stay. When it comes to our more unique, compact properties like The Folly we make sure there are lots of photographs to show the size of the important aspects of the property, such as the low combi-oven and the bathroom, this is to ensure guests are fully aware of what to expect when they arrive at the property. Once again, we're sorry to hear that The Folly was not suitable for you. Property Owner

It looked gorgeous on the website and it was equally gorgeous in reality. It also exceeded our expectations. The setting was very private with considerable outdoor space and sitting areas. The views were expansive and the combination of this with the beautiful garden and vineyard led to us feeling we were in the Italian countryside. So peaceful and a lovely walk into Weobley, straight from the door. Expectations were also exceeded by our hosts - Annie, Jim and Barney the dog - so helpful, warm and friendly with a perfect balance of connection and giving us space. It is at the far end of the garden so you are far away enough from the owners home to not keep bumping into each other. The Folly really works. It is like being in Italy without having to travel there. Was able to pick herbs directly from the garden to add to meals. A really beautiful special place, would definitely return.

  • "The Folly is an amazing, quirky and romantic place to stay in a beautiful setting."

It certainly has the WOW factor. It is very bijou, with a high standard of furnishings and fittings. The design and planning has been  well thought out to utilise every inch of space. The outside area is secluded and perfect for al fresco dining. We were lucky enough to have some hot weather so we had breakfast and dinner on the terrace and used the barbecue one evening. The shelter in the garden is perfect to catch the last rays of sun. Apparently the inspiration for the building came from a visit to Portmerion in North Wales. It was originally built as a writer's retreat for a well-known garden designer to write his books whilst overlooking the peaceful rill and garden. We received a very warm welcome from our hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The patio in front of the Folly is planted with edible plants that we were invited to pick and use. On arrival we received a welcome basket of delicious homemade spelt bread, homemade damson jam, milk, biscuits, butter, olive oil and local cheese. There are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding areas. Nearby Weobley is a charming village. We would wholeheartedly recommend this property and would definitely return. We have stayed in a lot of self catering properties all over the country and abroad, and this is one of our favourites. Thank you to Annie and Jim for making us so welcome.

The property

The Folly is a “small but perfectly formed” property that will allow you to relax in the quiet of the Herefordshire countryside or go exploring to see some of the unspoilt towns and sites of the Marches.

The Folly was built simply as a decorative feature to an ornate garden and is now approached by a short walk through a developing woodland, but the property has now been renovated with much thought being given to making the most of the available space, having been compared to a perfect doll's house!

The upgrade includes a mini kitchen, with a combi microwave and induction hob, a relaxing settee, also a TV, DVD player and WiFi.

When you walk in, it does not feel at small because of the large gothic shaped door and windows, and you will find a narrow spiral staircase to the bedroom where there is a comfortable bed and separate WC and shower, and though features and furniture are small, everything is interesting, unusual and finished to a very high standard.

Outside is a large patio, planted with all edible plants, a table, chairs, BBQ and a large summer house, originally built to compliment the Folly, which are all available for guests.

The Folly is within the grounds of Arrow Cottage yet is completely separate and private, being situated on a very quiet lane, the surroundings of fields, orchards and wooded hills makes this a beautiful quiet place to unwind.

If you enjoy walking, a 30 minute walk takes you into the picturesque village of Weobley, the “Jewel in the Crown” of the black and white villages where you can visit the pub the Salutation or enjoy a coffee or lunch at Green Bean or Jules.

More energetic walks include the Offa's Dyke footpath, the Wye Valley footpath and the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) are all close by, you’ll also be just 15 minutes from the River Wye which offers fishing and canoeing.

For shopping there are the historic towns of Ledbury and Ludlow, both of which boast architecturally interesting buildings, including Ludlow Castle, and also many independent shops.

In Hereford you will find the usual mainstream shops and also Hereford Cathedral which houses the Mappa Mundi.

About 20 minutes drive away is the world famous town of Hay on Wye which hosts the annual literary festival as well as the greatest number of bookshops you are ever likely to find in one town.

Also, within a short drive are many gardens including Stockton Bury which has just been shortlisted as one of the top NGS gardens in the country, and The National Trust properties of Berrington Court and Brockhampton, are a short drive away.

All in all the Folly is a relaxing and unusual property from which to explore the rural tranquillity of Herefordshire.
