  • "My Whippet Lady and I have been holidaying at the Cow Cott over the past 4 years."

We absolutely love it here! Carol is just wonderful. She welcomes us with open arms and leaves us lovely treats. Nothing is too much trouble and she always makes time for a chat. The cottage is beautiful, so clean and comfortable and has everything you need. We have fallen in love with Rosie and Ted. They are such sweet souls and we enjoy spending time with them. There’s so much to see in the area. We spent a day at Hergest Gardens and Park wood, stopping for a delicious cream tea at the Maples tea rooms. We went for walks through the fields amongst the sheep and their lambs and we saw wild ponies up at Hergest Ridge. Brobury Gardens are beautiful especially this time of year as the bluebells are already out and the apple blossoms are so pretty. The Garden cafe is also well worth a visit for a cream tea or lunch. I cannot recommend the Cow Cott enough, that’s why we keep returning! It fills you with such a sense of peace and tranquility. A very special place and we hope to return again soon.

The house was spotless, we've never seen glassware so well polished. The standing stone was well worth a visit, and the chapel at Urishay had acoustics that would give anyone's voice the sound of heaven. The labyrinthine world of lanes and hedges was spellbinding, and the weather was equally out of this world.

Everything a couple would need unless you perhaps want to cook a Sunday roast! But who does on holiday. Carol the owner was charming. We arrived to a home baked fruit cake, a bottle of red wine, jars of sweets & biscuits. Really good quality coffee & tea. Loved Rosie the donkey . And the peace & quiet. There is a great pub in Peterchurch that does good value meals. So friendly in there. A wonderful destressing break.

Carol is a wonderful lady and I really enjoyed spending time with her, she always had time for a chat and is very friendly. She had made me a lovely fruit cake and there were chocolate biscuits and a jar of sweets available. It is a great place to relax and unwind in the evening with lots of wildlife around. Being well back from the road, which is not busy anyway, the only sounds you may hear are sheep and birds. But in Cow Cottage they have surpassed themselves. You can check details of the cottage on the Sykes site. But they are a minor part of the deal. Far more important are the Family Rickman. Philip who works hard as an author. Carol who works her fingers off looking after you - including baking you wonderful cakes, answering any questions with unlimited patients and introducing you to their two wonderful animals, both of which our Bedlington Terrior Alfie fell in love with. Ted, the Airdale who cried for Alfie whenever we were in. Rossie the Donkey who brayed for Alfie each morning and evening and waited for him at her stable gate. Seeing the two of them nuzzeling was amazing. You don't need to go out - stay and enjoy the wonderful ambience. Thank you Family Rickman - a wonderful holiday. xxx

Free cake! Free donkey (the lovely Rosie). However, Cow Cott was much, much smaller than expected (described as "spacious") - a small studio with no space to relax or cook. Stayed here for a week recently and although it is small we found it welcoming, cosy and has a quiet, relaxing feel. We had a lovely welcome from the owner (and Ted the dog) which included cake, wine, chocolates and some biscuits. Even supplied us with some milk as we had forgotten to get some! Everything you need for a week's stay is all there, even a freezer is available across the farm yard in an adjacent barn. Forget the location given by Sykes, you will not find it from the info given, call the owner and she will give detailed instructions! If you like walking, hiking or cycling then this is a perfect base, there are several walks you can do from the cottage, but it's easy to get to the Brecon Beacons, Malverns or the Forrest of Dean. Abergavenny and Hay On Wye are also very close. Must not forget Rosie the donkey, so nice to share her farm yard for a week! Highly recommended.

The property is fairly remote so we really got to feel like we were away from it all. The property itself was perfect and had everything we needed, including little treats for us and the dog! The weather was very changeable while we were there so whilst we braved the rain to go on long walks, we could come back to a warm property and dry ourselves (and boots) off in front of the heater. The cottage is ideal for a dog too with exercise fields on the doorstep, great country and hill walks nearby, and the cottage floor is easy to clean after the inevitable muddy paw-prints! Don't rely on signposts for navigation; few exist, those that do are often hidden in hedgerows, or are non-reflective and don't show up in the dark! OS Map OL13 is essential for enjoying the lanes and footpaths in the area. Rosy the donkey and Mrs Hen the peahen live next to the cottage, and together with dozens of swallows and sparrows swooping around, added an extra-special and lovely dimension to the experience of staying here. There are several dog-friendly pubs near-by offering good food and a reasonable selection of vegetarian and vegan dishes available. It is as well to check opening times as some of these pubs only open in the evening and some do not serve food every day of the week WIFI worked well in the cottage for internet use, and we found 1-2 blobs of signal strength on Vodafone and O2 mobile. About the location

Leominster 14 miles.

The cathedral city of Hereford dates back to Saxon times, and with its medieval bridge over the winding River Wye it is the very image of picturesque England. With a mix of buildings from almost every British era, eclectic Hereford is a popular base for those seeking to explore the locale – being ideally placed for accessing the Black and White villages of the region, not to mention the delights of neighbouring Shropshire, Worcestershire and The Cotswolds. Famous as a cider producing town, Hereford is also the home of the Mappa Mundi, the largest and most elaborate pre-15th century map in existence, which resides in the cathedral alongside the famous Chained Library – a collection of over 1500 rare books from as early as the 8th century. Nearby is the half timbered town of Leominster, filled with medieval buildings, often overhanging the street, and also accessible is the natural splendour of Symonds Yat, a rocky outcrop on a 5 mile bend of the River Wye, with spectacular views and the opportunity to spot protected peregrine falcons flying from their nests.
