  • "The only issue we had that the wifi never work in fairness this is in part due to remoteness of the property."

  • "Lovely little base to explore Herefordshire and the Brecon Beacons."

The house is basic but has all needed facilities (plus a log burner) and a well equipped kitchen. Great views in a quiet and remote setting with friendly hosts. Being isolated comes with limited Internet connectivity, the WiFi didn't work for us (it's shared with other accommodation and our phones would connect but with no Internet) and couldn't get a reliable mobile/data signal inside the house but could outside. There's a shared seating area with a couple of benches, some outdoor seats and a small table just outside the Granary would be even better to relax with a meal outside.

  • "The Granary is a nice place to stay but as mentioned by other occupants that it could do with a good clean ie."

Cobwebs and the flies. There was also a lack of useful kitchen items such as tin foil, clingfilm and kitchen roll all of which are usually supplied in other cottages we have stayed in. However the owners are very helpful The Granary is in a lovely setting with beautiful scenary a comfortable bed, great shower and log burner.

Can I say many many thanks for leaving the place so very clean and tidy There is very little that I can do about the odd cobweb and fly, being a country cottage with beams and can assure them that the place was thoroughly cleaned with fresh linen put in the day before they arrived Property Owner

  • "My review is not all bad but I do need to say that I was exceedingly diappointed that for a cottage that is being let out on a regular basis, the state of the cottage was not immaculaty presented."

I appreciate that being in the countryside you get spiders but to discover spiders webs covered in dust in the bedroom and thick dust behind the sink in the bathroom and the kitchen floor unswept was very diappointing. We chose the cottage for a break, as my husband was recovering from a major operation and we needed some time to recouperate. I expected as a rental property the property would be spotless but I was wrong. As such I wasn't a realaxed as I could have been, as I was concerned about my husband's health all week. We did enjoy the location of the cottage, as it was quiet (which is what we needed), although the first few days were a little noisy due to a festival going on at the nearby cider mill. We were so exhausted we didn't really notice. Our plan was always to just chill and relax, but we did find this hard to do as we have no private garden area to retreat too and the sofa in the lounge was not a loungable sofa. Luckily the bed was very comortable but we couldn't stay there all day. The listing of the cottage does state that the cottage has WiFi but the information sent across sates it is poor and this was reitterated when we were met by the owner. Poor is a stretch of the imaginaton as we experienced absolutly no WiFi connnectivity in the whole week we spent at the cottage. In summary, the cottage is a quaint cottage in a beautiful area of the country but needs to address its cleanliness, its comfortability and its connectivity issues.

  • "We had a brilliant long weekend in this cosy cottage."

We did a couple of walks and loved getting back and putting the log burner on. The Granary is very well maintained, the shower was extremely powerful, the bed was very comfortable, and the views amazing. The owners live nearby but we hardly saw them, and when we did they were extremely friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend a walk at Hay Bluff (near Hay on Wye) and The Pandy Inn at Dorstone for lunch. Arthur’s Stone, a Neolithic burial chamber dating back to 3,700 BC, is well worth a visit. Finally, take a stroll up the road to Gwatkin’s Cider Farm and sample a few of their lovely ciders and perrys. We’d love to return one day.

  • "We were warned about the spiral stairs but they were a bit of a challenge - quite steep and narrow, requiring the use of both hands which made carrying things up and down somewhat awkward."

The Granary is very well equipped, very warm and comfortable. No mobile phone signal - again we had been warned.

  • "The owners very friendly and helpful and the cottage was really well equipped to suit most of our needs."

The king sized bed was particularly comfortable. At night the area was quiet, even though the Barn was fully occupied the first night. We did have problems with setting up the heating and the TV but the owner soon sorted that out for us. All in all it was a good first experience of a holiday cottage and hopefully will enjoy holidays in more in the future.

  • "It was great but I think it needs saying that it's very close to the big barn that takes twelve people - we got on okay with the people staying there, but if they'd been difficult or noisy it could have been a bit awkward - in other words don't go expecting a cottage that stands alone with guaranteed peace and quiet."

But that aside it's a lovely cottage in a great location and we had a lovely time. So a big thanks to you and the owners.

It was the perfect cosy getaway for us, with gorgeous countryside all around. We went for a long walk along Offa's Dyke, had dinner and drinks in a couple of local pubs, and spent a very enjoyable day in the second-hand bookshops of Hay-on-Wye. The cottage is extremely rural, which was lovely, but there are villages nearby with places to eat and buy supplies. Lastly, the owners live just up the lane and were very friendly and welcoming.
