  • "Front door sticks at bottom when opening, could do with an outside light in the small garden."

Grumpy man from No. 3 complained on our first morning that we left the outside light on which kept him awake, might need a small sign warning not to leave light on overnight? Apart from that a lovely cottage in an ideal location, clean, tidy with all the facilities that we required, had a lovely stay. Thanks.

  • "The Barn is sited in a pleasant space and is basically Residential and quiet."

Overall it was generally very clean ie Cooker and Microwave exceptional, bedlinen spotless; likewise towels. Bed in main bedroom very comfortable. I would suggest that a Bath sheet and a Bath towel be provided for each adult along with a hand towel. Also a squegee blade for cleaning the glass shower screen. Shelf / mirror set up over wash hand basin bit of a hazard for banging your head on! Likewise, in the kitchen a supply of hand and tea towels be provided as one tea towel is insufficient for a week's stay. Kitchen has a good array of pans and dishes, it would be good if a few smaller oven proof dishes could be provided when it is only a X2 person occupancy. Some dishes are difficult to reach on the top shelf. A Polypropylene chopping board (Dishwasher safe) as opposed to glass, as glass blunts knives, all knives in the drawer proved this. Understairs cupboard difficult to access for Hoover and mop & bucket, slight damp smell. Sofa's difficult to get out of and are very low. Patio garden could be very pretty but is showing signs of lack of maintenance. Fencing / gate and weeds. A ring binder would be an asset for guests to have all information in one place. Leaflets on places of interest and entertainment, places to eat etc and your refuse/ re-cycling system instead of being in drawers / Notice Board. Also useful telephone numbers of Dentist, Vets etc. Overall a good stay and I hope that the above comments / suggestions are taken as meant, in a constructive way.

  • "The website indicates parking off road for 2 cars."

It appears there is only one specific space allocated outside the garage for No 4. It may be possible to park a second vehicle on a first come basis. Following an upgrade to the TV there is no DVD player. The cottage itself was very good and well equipped. The location was ideal and both the owners and the on-site lady who cleans the property were helpful.

  • "Disappointed that nobody was at the property to let us in at 16."

30pm. After 2 calls to the given number a text was received saying one of the owners was unaware of the booking (from Sykes) until that morning and had been away, then in a work meeting, unable to respond. If we had not spoken to a neighbour at the development, who coincidentally was the cleaner to the cottage we were booked into, we might have been waiting more than the hour we spent trying to gain access. Unimpressed. The cottage was comfortable and clean with everything needed for our 5 day visit. Bathroom door lock needs attention. 1 toilet roll for 2 people seemed a bit frugal!

  • "Very nice cottage, good location on the island and it had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay."

I particularly enjoyed sitting on the patio with a cup of tea watching all the birds in the communal garden.

  • "Very quiet comfortable accommodation, probably the best equipped kitchen I have ever stayed in."

Only comment I would make is the lack of stair carpet which made the stairs slippery for my elderly mother going up and down to the bathroom . Would definitely stay again .

  • "A very comfortable cottage with plenty of space in a great location for exploring West Wight."

The cottage was very well appointed with plenty of kitchen utensils. Having good outside space and convenience to great walking for the dog was also excellent. My only observations were that the sofas were 'well used' and could be firmer. I am reasonably fit and struggled to get up from them. The B3399 is quite a busy road so we did notice quite a lot of car noise but all in all, a very comfortable cottage.

About the location

FRESHWATER

Yarmouth 3 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Fishbourne 16 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
