  • "We had a fantastic."

..it truly is home from home, ideal for families, with plenty of toys and outdoor entertainment for children. A very comfortable place to stay, with lots of rooms to spread out in and a lovely garden to enjoy too. The property is round the corner from the Coop and post office, and a 10min walk to a bakery, Boots, and farm shop, not to mention the beach and RNLI station. We had a very relaxing time here, and would have loved to have stayed longer!

Thank you for your kind feedback, we hope it is a home from home experience and pleased to hear you enjoyed all the local shops and restaurants. ☺️ Property Owner

  • "Galatea is beautiful."

Very comfortable and spotlessly clean everywhere. This home is perfect for everyone of all ages, with the downstairs bedroom and bathroom ideal for older or disabled people. The decor is done tastefully. The back garden is lovely and private with loungers tables and chairs. There are shops close by, lovely cafes too. Bembridge is a perfect place to stay and people are so friendly. This property is the best we have stayed in and will be back for sure.

  • "The property is in a lovely location easily accessible to local amenities, a handy Coop nearby, we did not use a supermarket at all for our stay."

Fantastic having the RNLI Bembridge on the doorstep, we watched the Tuesday 7pm launch of both the in shore and off shore lifeboats! The weather was not great when we stayed so we did not get to use the outdoor space as much as we would have liked, but did manage a few games of badminton with the kids. The trampoline looked as though it could do with some attention, so we did not use it. We gave up with using the 2 TV's. Freesat did not work in the main lounge, managed briefly to get it working in the snug, but picture kept freezing, I only wanted to watch BBC Breakfast news:) However Wifi was excellent. Bedrooms were great and very comfortable, bathrooms also good. It would have been nice to have a few extra hand towels rather than just the large bath towel each, although lovely and soft, as having girls with long hair, made the drying process more difficult. Could also do with an extractor fan in the downstairs bathroom to help ventilation to prevent damp odours etc. I washed our towels mid week and they smelt damp. Kitchen and dining area well organised. A handy utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer, which came in very useful. Also great to have buckets and spades and badminton stuff as well. Kept the kids happy. All in all a quiet location and a lovely family break, but glad we booked last minute as I think the price is more realistic for the property.

Thanks for your feedback, sorry you had issues with the TV satellite as it does require a little getting used too as requires 2x remotes to manage. I will ensure to update the instructions to make it more simple. Trampoline is being replaced for next summer guests, it was damaged in winds over the summer months. ☺️ Property Owner

So much space that you weren't on top of each other. There is a few maintenance things that need sorting and updating. It's 5 minutes from the beach and 1 minute from the local shop that sells almost everything. Overall, we will definitely try and book again. Wonderful place.

  • "A beautiful house that was a real home from home."

Layout work well and we really enjoyed our stay. Easy to reach the beach and the village centre. Our only negative was the hot tub which is not chemically treated so needs to be emptied and refilled during your stay. We weren’t aware of this when booking. It had also not been properly cleaned prior to our stay.

  • "The property was comfortable, in a good location, near shops and the beach, and had a parking space."

The house had a good sized garden. The kitchen was spacious and we had some welcome goodies including a pint of milk plus tea and coffee so we did not have to shop as soon as we arrived. The full length glass doors on the ground floor meant the downstairs bedroom lacked privacy and there was no ventilator fan in the downstairs bathroom causing me to reduce the comfort score.

Galatea has all and more you could wish for a wonderful family holiday. Ideally situated with easy access to beaches and all the isle of Wight has to offer. The house is perfect for multi generation family groups being very spacious and with a large child friendly garden. One of the best holiday homes we have stayed in.

  • "Galatea is a wonderful holiday home, a beautiful cottage and garden in a very quiet road, perfect for a family holiday."

The grandchildren loved the hot tub. There were buckets, spades, fishing nets, lots of toys for younger children, plenty of dvds for rainy days. Shop two minutes walk away, beach and pub/restaurant within walking distance. We loved our stay there.

  • "We had such a lovely time at Galatea!"

The cottage is great; super spacious, comfortable and very clean, with a beautiful garden if like us you are lucky enough to have the weather on your side. The hot tub is perfect for an evening dip once the kids are in bed (although being wood-fired you need to ensure you prepare it well in advance!) The location is excellent - Bembridge is a gorgeous village and very well placed to explore the island's extensive coastline. Finally I would like to say a big thank you to Kathee who was extremely helpful, friendly and communicative throughout. There is a very good chance we'll be returning in the future! Thank you :)

  • "Another great week in Bembridge staying at the comfortable, quiet and homely Galatea."

The property is ideally situated very near a lovely beach, a small parade of shops and Bembridge village. We had glorious weather for our stay so made the most of the garden and thoughtfully provided equipment as well as the local beach, a short walk away. The property was cozy and warm with a large family kitchen and two comfortable lounges as well as a conservatory. We all felt very at home and look forward to coming again next year.

  • "When we arrived the kitchen was dirty."

The grill pan still had fat in from previous tenants and the microwave had curry splatters in. There was a dirty fridge which the owner said was for drinks but was unusable as it was filthy and the table was dirty and the extractor fan and knife block were covered in grease with big cobwebs around the extractor. The plates in the cupboard were not too clean either. Also the outdoor furniture was dirty. The main table and chairs set was covered in bird poo and dead leaves. As no-one had cleaned the kitchen or garden we didn’t use the hot tub as it had flies in so we assumed that it hadn’t been cleaned. We contacted the owner who did send the cleaner back to us the next morning. She cleaned the kitchen ( what we had left and not already cleaned ourselves as we had to do some cleaning the night before ourselves in order to eat!) but said it wasn’t in her contract to do the garden so we just used the picnic tables near the house which we cleaned ourselves as no one ever came to clean the garden furniture. A repairman also turned up on the Sunday morning to fix parts of both of the showers. We hadn’t been told he was coming and he just let himself in. Neither the cleaner or repairman wore a mask or asked if we would like them too. We were then told not to use one of the showers for at least an hour or longer if possible. This is not the standard I expect at any time and definitely not with COVID. We were very disappointed. However the upstairs seemed to have been cleaned. Sheets and towels were fresh. It just seemed like the downstairs had been forgotten. Luckily we had nice weather and had lots to do on the island so we made the best of it once the cleaner had been back. We definitely left it cleaner that it was when we arrived. The facilities available were good if they had just been clean when we arrived. The low rating giving for facilities and comfort are simply because the lack of cleanliness in parts of the property made you feel uncomfortable in the whole property. Very disappointed.

  • "Three generations of our family very much enjoyed the facilities and comfort provided by the owner of Galatea."

It really was home from home, comfortable beds, a huge kitchen diner, a wonderful garden, a very quiet position within a short walking distance of the lovely beach, toys and games aplenty there really is no need to pack toys if you are travelling with young children, Jacob aged 5 and Amelia aged 2 absolutely loved finding cupboards full of toys and the badminton set and swing ball was much appreciated by us all. There are boxes of games some new which we didn’t get around to using which would suit families with older children. A short walk away is a large Coop selling just about everything including Cook frozen food products. We couldn’t have asked for a better holiday home thank you! I am so looking forward to returning in the autumn with my other grandchildren and daughter.

  • "Galatea is much larger than I had expected."

Downstairs there are two lounges (both with TVs), a double bedroom, large kitchen/diner, utility room bath/shower room, conservatory and long hallway. Upstairs is a double bedroom, bunk bed/single bed room and bath/shower room. All of the rooms are well furnished and with interesting (in good way) items on walls and furniture. There is also a good WiFi service. There is a large garden with tables and chairs, room for games and a hot tub. I have yet to find a property as well provided for as Galatea. Crockery and cutlery are plentiful in the well-equipped kitchen. There is lots of drawer/wardrobe space in the bedrooms (no shortage of coat hangers) and, as far as the three children with us were concerned, an abundance of toys/games. Notes, such as those saying feel free to use the toys and games, made the house seem very welcoming. Galatea is just a few minutes walk from a Cooperative shop (very convenient, albeit is little dearer than elsewhere) and the seafront. Bembridge is quiet compared with places such as Sandown and Shanklin but all the better for that. There are a few restaurants in the town, a fish and chips shop and bakery plus others such as Boots and another Coop. All in all, we were really pleased and delighted to have chosen Galatea and would strongly recommend it for an IOW holiday. A word of warning if you are going to be crossing from Southampton particularly on a Saturday. The traffic queuing to access the Red Funnel terminal was horrendous. The knock-on effect seemed to be delays in ferry departures.

  • "It was a comfortable and very spacious house in a fabulous location."

So close to the beach, gorgeous little shops and lovely quiet area. There were toys aplenty and we appreciated the badminton set. The big TV in the super comfortable sitting room was great. There are fabulous restaurants and locally-sourced food shops. The only downsides are there is no filtration / bubbles in the hot tub so it gets too dirty to use after a couple of days and there is an odd smell in the porch / utility room. The beds were a bit soft too and the front garden is a bit overgrown. Kitchen will need replacing for this high-end expensive price and towel rail radiators in the bathrooms would be good.

  • "A fantastic cottage in a perfect location."

The layout is superb and the welcome pack was lovely. If I had a minor criticism it would just be 2 small things. Perhaps the trampoline needs a little repair as the frame appeared slightly bent, and secondly perhaps another lamp or 2 in the snug and living room. We moved the lamps around a bit as we find this lighting more pleasant. But these are really minor points. I’d love to return to this property in the future.

Sadly we had awful weather all week but this cottage is so cosy and comfortable to come back to and has excellent laundry facilities so we just went out and got wet! We were three generations, including an 8 month old and the accommodation was perfect for us all. We used local take aways and pubs and did not need to go outside Bembridge for our meals. Galatea has a lovely garden with a wood fired hot tub which we filled up but couldn't use as the weather was too bad but we do hope to return one day to experience this little gem to its full potential.

About the location

BEMBRIDGE

Ryde 7 miles; Newport 11 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Yarmouth 20 miles.

Bembridge sits on the most eastern point of the Isle of Wight, and it is claimed to be the biggest village in England. Bembridge used to be an island in its own right, and until the Victorian era, was a collection of wooden huts and farmhouses, hence Bembridge remains somewhat detached from the rest of the island even today, which adds to its charm. Bembridge is considered to be one of the most upmarket areas on the island and offers a surprisingly busy intertidal sheltered harbour, which is always full of pleasure crafts and fishing boats providing a constant flow of traffic to and from The Solent. From the harbour you will find quiet beaches consisting of sand and pebbles, perfect for swimming, beachcombing and crabbing and in high winds you will see plenty of kite surfing activity. As you walk along Bembridge beach, you will discover the lifeboat station, cafes and the famous Crab & Lobster Inn, as well as the magnificent Culver Cliffs as your backdrop. The village centre offers a good range of small shops, with its award-winning butcher's and 'The Best Dressed Crab in Town' which is situated in Bembridge harbour, you can also sample local produce from the greengrocer's, visit the art gallery and much more; in fact everything you should need while holidaying here.
