“The Blue Beach House was the perfect place to stay with my 3 kids and family dog.”

It had anything we needed, was the perfect location and had a really homely feel to it. I highly recommend the place and hope to stay there again soon.

The property

100 YARDS FROM THE BEACH !!!

The Blue Beach House is a pretty detached single storey cottage just 100 yards from the beach and public slipway.

Set within its own private garden with ample off-street parking, it is ideal for guests wishing to bring boats, jet skis or water sports equipment.

We are a short stroll from local shops, pubs and restaurants; and a great base for coastal walks, starting right on our doorstep.

The Blue Beach House is decorated and furnished in a relaxed vintage style, and generously supplied with freshly laundered, crisp white bed linen and soft white towels.

The kitchen is well equipped for the perfect family meal: dine al-fresco on the sheltered patio, or relax with a sundowner while the children and pets play safely in the secure garden, and for those cooler days, there’s a Smart TV and WiFi.

Sleeps four in two bedrooms with one en-suite WC and one family bathroom - The Blue Beach House has two bedrooms -The main bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two singles which can be easily converted into a king size double bed if desired - The double bedroom has an en-suite WC and hand basin - The family bathroom has a shower, WC and hand basin.

Open plan living area with views of the patio and garden - Comfortable open plan sitting room and dining area with views out of French doors to the patio and garden - The accommodation is styled over a single floor in a relaxed vintage fashion, and reflects the laid-back lifestyle and history of the property.

The kitchen is fully equipped, with washing machine, dishwasher, electric hob and oven, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and iron - We have a very good selection of beautiful tableware and high-quality cookware.

The Blue Beach House has a sunny south east facing patio, with a covered verandah and dining area, and a pretty cottage style garden – you will find luggage storage in the pretty mini beach huts under the verandah - It's a secure space for children to play, and the dog - if you have one - won't be able to escape either!

The Blue Beach House occupies a prime position yards from the beach and a short 5-minute stroll to Lane End food shops and Post Office - This local family run convenience store is extremely well stocked and open from 7:00 am until 11:00 pm.

The heart of Bembridge village is a short walk either along the coastal path, through leafy lanes or along the quiet roads - The village centre is home to a selection of beautiful independent shops and cafes, plus pubs and restaurants - Amongst other things, you will find a butcher, a baker and a candlestick …seller; as well as a fabulous fresh fish shop and delicatessen.

Some interesting history about the Blue Beach House: During World War I, the Canadian Government shipped thousands of wooden huts to England to house the vast number of troops awaiting deployment to France and Belgium - The Blue Beach House began life as one of these huts - It was originally designed to accommodate three military officers with a sitting room.

After the war was over, the huts were no longer required, and the British Government sold them off as surplus, their solid construction and easy assembly made them suitable for a range of uses - Many were acquired by sports clubs and are still in use today as cricket pavilions and club houses, others were repurposed as out-houses, holiday chalets, workshops and sheds - Our hut was transported to the island in 1925.

Over the years, The Blue Beach House has had many uses, such as tea rooms, a garage, and holiday accommodation, until it was finally left to fall into disrepair.

The photographs mounted on the wall in the cottage show The Blue Beach House as Mrs Smith’s Tea Rooms, c1930 - It was run by Mrs 'Mowey' Smith and her husband George, who was a fisherman based at Lane End.

As you can see from the pictures, the building exterior is still largely original - The current owners purchased the restored property in 2013, and the building retains as much of its former character as possible - The dark brown wooden interior cladding is original, and is constructed of Canadian cedar - The interior doors of the bedrooms and en-suite are also original, as are the size and layout.

About the location

BEMBRIDGE

Ryde 7 miles; Newport 11 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Yarmouth 20 miles.

Bembridge sits on the most eastern point of the Isle of Wight, and it is claimed to be the biggest village in England. Bembridge used to be an island in its own right, and until the Victorian era, was a collection of wooden huts and farmhouses, hence Bembridge remains somewhat detached from the rest of the island even today, which adds to its charm. Bembridge is considered to be one of the most upmarket areas on the island and offers a surprisingly busy intertidal sheltered harbour, which is always full of pleasure crafts and fishing boats providing a constant flow of traffic to and from The Solent. From the harbour you will find quiet beaches consisting of sand and pebbles, perfect for swimming, beachcombing and crabbing and in high winds you will see plenty of kite surfing activity. As you walk along Bembridge beach, you will discover the lifeboat station, cafes and the famous Crab & Lobster Inn, as well as the magnificent Culver Cliffs as your backdrop. The village centre offers a good range of small shops, with its award-winning butcher's and 'The Best Dressed Crab in Town' which is situated in Bembridge harbour, you can also sample local produce from the greengrocer's, visit the art gallery and much more; in fact everything you should need while holidaying here.
