  • "Ideal location, beautiful cottage and while no parking, we managed to always park fairly close to the house."

The owners have thought of all the things you need while away, one thing we would recommend is a teapot and cafetière. Minor thing and just a suggestion, as really was a lovely, well-equipped home.

  • "Loved the house."

Clean, comfortable modern traditional. More kitchen equipment: cafetiere instead of capsule coffee machine would have been nice. Outside rubbish bins not in evidence. The Nest heating controls a bit too tech but think we got it in the end. Lovely house and would definitely book again. Decor elegant but very comfortable.

Fabulous house with everything needed for a holiday the only thing that let it down for us ,as had elderly family with us was the on road parking which we knew about at booking but it was sometimes difficult to park near the house

  • "We really enjoyed the cottage and exploring the west of the island."

The bays are amazing and the Red Lion pub a 2min walk away from the house is a gem. Great hosts too.

  • "Lovely cottage."

Well furnished with great garden, good internet and tv, and thoughtfully equipped kitchen. Felt like a holiday home that was let rather than a purely commercial holiday let. Car parking on street, but not really an issue, though cars do travel quickly along that street (take care crossing from car to house) and there was also some road noise clearly audible in the front rooms.

  • "For family's with young children there needs to be a lock on the gate as the road outside was quite busy."

    No parking onsite

Owners quickly replaced cooker after the previous one malfunctioned.

  • "A lovely stay but think you should mention the busy lane that goes right past the front door."

The road is a cut through to the village used by all and sundry with noisy traffic from 6:30 am . Wouldn’t worry guests from London but for quiet rural folk like us we were a bit sleep deprived to be honest. The cottage was beautifully decorated and thoughtfully equipped throughout, and the lovely Red Lion pub within 100m was perfect for the evenings with delicious food and every covid protocol being followed. All in all a definite 4/5 and would have been 5/5 but for the traffic noise.

About the location

Yarmouth 3 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Fishbourne 16 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
