  • "We had a lovely holiday at Home Farm Cottage."

Very comfortable and spacious (for 4 adults and a dog). There are loads of places to eat out very close by, but the kitchen is very well equipped and we enjoyed cooking meals there. Comfy garden furniture and super comfy beds (although thicker curtains in the bedrooms would be nice). The cottage was surprisingly quiet inside despite the road. Denise provided us with lots of really useful recommendations - thank you. A great first visit to the IoW.

  • "With minimal time/outlay, parking could be upgraded to two full parking bays, it is an 8 person unit!"

Scrap the old fashioned Aga and put in a two oven/4 burner unit. Also provide full size frig/freezer. It is an 8 person unit!

Our beautiful thatch cottage is a Grade II listed building and it is not possible to change the parking area. In addition to add a second family car parking space a large part of the cottage garden would be lost and would spoil the beauty of the cottage. There are two free on road parking spaces immediately outside the property. Parking arrangements are clearly described in the description. The Aga is in keeping with the charm and period of the cottage and again described within the description. There is a gas hob and a large combination convection/microwave oven. There is a full size fridge and a smaller freezer. Thank you for your feedback. Property Owner

  • "The property has a lovely feel and is in a great location."

I would have been happy with the property but for the following reasons:- The dishwasher wasnt working from the moment we arrived. It had s foul smell and water leaked over the floor.I had to empty some water out everyday to stop it over flowing.A plumber did come however a replacement was required which was installed after we left. The electrics blew which tripped the sockets downstairs. This was also investigated by the engineer who discovered that water had got onto the socket for the dishwasher resulting in the fuse board tripping. The macerator in the on suite stopped working after the electrics blew and the shower tray filled up with water. This meant the on suite was unuseable. An engineer did attend and fixed the problem We spoke with the owners who did arrange the 2 engineers to attend and were polite and helpful in this regard. However we were only staying for 4 nights. We had no dishwasher and with the other issues it became slightly stressful and took the shine off our stay.

We are really sorry that the dishwasher broke down and as soon as you notified us we arranged for a plumber to come out immediately, unfortunately, it could not be repaired so we arranged for a new replacement straight away. . The issue with the dishwasher caused the electrics to trip so we called out an electrician immediately who sorted out the issue. We are pleased that you loved the cottage and we are so sorry that there was a problem with the dishwasher that had a knock on effect. Property Owner

  • "The cottage was really great."

(just saying it would have been handy to have an alternative oven than the Aga…. ) but it didn’t mar our lovely holiday. Denise, the owner was most helpful. We felt that we had been in Shanklin longer than a week. We will definitely visit the island again.

Really happy you enjoyed our cottage and found you loved the Island and will return. Regarding the oven situation. We do have a large combination microwave in the utility room which we find is sufficient to cook meals in during the period when the Aga is off. It works just like a traditional oven as well as microwave, which is very handy. Unfortunately we cannot put it in the kitchen at the moment, so it is housed in the utility room next to the garden room. When we redesign the kitchen we will certainly look to moving it. Thanks for the feedback Property Owner

About the location

SHANKLIN

Sandown 2.2 miles; Godshill 4 miles.

The town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a traditional seaside resort, sitting in a sheltered, sunny bay on the south-east coast of the island. Shanklin and Sandown offer all the right ingredients for a great summer holiday, with long, safe, sandy beaches and loads of family attractions, such as a zoo, pier and fairground, plus shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. The older part of Shanklin, known as Shanklin Old Village, is set slightly lower than the town, where the road winds between traditional thatched cottages, tea shops and charming gardens and parks. Explore Shanklin Chine, a dramatic gorge with a waterfall tumbling through lush plants and mossy boulders. At the top of the cliff is the bustling High Street of shops and the grand Victorian theatre, at the bottom there are cafes, shops and amusements along the suntrap esplanade and sandy beach. Shanklin is great starting point for numerous coastal and inland walks (with the option to return using the local bus network). The rest of the island, including Sandown, Godshill, Blackgang Chine and The Needles, is all easily accessible.
