“The cottage was well presented, clean and provided a good location for the whole island with it being central.”

The owner was extremely helpful and welcoming not only when we arrived but throughout the stay.

The owner was extremely helpful and welcoming not only when we arrived but throughout the stay. Ample walks from the cottage to nearby sights including the castle. Overall a very enjoyable stay and have no hesitation in recommending the cottage.

The property

Newport 2.3 miles.

The Cowshed is a sympathetically converted building situated in the small hamlet of Whitecroft, in the centre of the island between Carisbrooke and Gatcombe.

There are fantastic bridleways and footpaths right from the front door so it is the perfect location for exploring the stunning countryside.

Stepping inside The Cowshed, you have a large, tiled lobby area, perfect for muddy boots and safe storage for bicycles.

There is a lovely open-plan living space, with a well equipped kitchen housing all the appliances you could need.

The living area has a range of seating with a TV and DVD player.

The adjacent dining area seats four people with the option to extend the table for games, drawing or jigsaws.

The interior offers a wealth of character with whitewashed stone walls and exposed beams, with magnificent countryside views from this rural location.

With all rooms on the ground floor, there are two bedrooms; one king-size and one twin, with a family shower room featuring modern fixtures and fittings.

There is a separate WC and basin.

To the rear of the cottage, you will find a raised deck area overlooking a natural pond and the orchard, ideal for sitting out with your morning cup of tea and later in the day, watching the sunset over Garston Down.

You may be lucky enough to see the resident red squirrels and a myriad of birds visiting the pond and garden.

The Isle of Wight is home to many historical sites; Carisbrooke Castle is a medieval motte-and-bailey castle and is less than 10 minutes’ drive away.

Being centrally sited Osborne House, the magnificent Roman Villa at Brading and the beautiful Mottistone Gardens are all close by.

The county town of Newport has a range of high street stores, banks, supermarkets, a good selection of eateries, an arts centre and a cinema.

For boating enthusiasts Cowes, Yarmouth and Bembridge offer a number of Sailing Clubs and the opportunity to both watch or participate in water-based activities.

Beaches abound around the island and depending on your interests vary from child friendly Sandown for fun in the arcades and with a bucket and spade, or for long sandy walks you are spoilt for choice.

A car is recommended, although there is a bus stop less than 5 minutes’ walk (No 6 route).
