  • "Very good stay weather was glorious, somebody with a bigger car might find it a bit difficult to park but we managed fine!"

modern kitchen and dining area and a great games room to accommodate.

  • "No wardrobe in the main upstairs bedroom and no drawer space and only bedside locker in the twin bedroom."

A night light on the stairs would be useful - it is pitch black at night. The downstairs is well appointed, especially the kitchen. The rear garden is not enclosed as there is no back gate. We used the 2 bins to keep the dog in. To the right hand side of the patio is a deep trench in which a young child could fall in. The rest of the garden is lovely and the summer house is a bonus. Access by car is difficult; it may be better to park on the main road. For those who arrive on foot, the number 7 bus stops in Norton Green, a 5 minute walk from the cottage. Bus services across the island are excellent. In our opinion, if the comments above were taken into consideration, Bramble Cottage would move up from being a good place to stay to being excellent.

  • "Bramble cottage is an exceptional property which has everything you could want."

The kitchen is well stocked and the kitchen/ dining area is light and airy. It also has a beautiful well maintained garden. The bedrooms are all very comfortable with beautiful bed linen. The only criticism is that the gravel at the front of the property makes parking very difficult - we got stuck in it. Overall it is a beautiful property and we had a fabulous time.

Hi Julie We are thrilled you enjoyed our cottage as much as we do and look forward to your next visit Thank you for your comment on the gravel I have arrived today to lay gravel grating so you won’t have a problem next time Property Owner

  • "We just wanted to pass on our thanks to you both for a truly wonderful stay at Bramble Cottage."

The facilities in the cottage were excellent and the kitchen provided everything we needed for a couple of homemade meals. We mostly ate out with The Red Lion being a firm favourite, the staff were lovely and the food delicious. The local shops and restaurants/takeaways were within just a few minutes drive and the cottage itself was incredibly peaceful and quiet. Thank you again and we would love to return again. All best wishes Lisa and Mike

  • "The property was really lovely but not at all suitable for an infant or small children."

There was rat poison in the cupboard under the sink and no child lock, the patio had huge gaps either side which a child could fall down, no rails around the front of the patio or handrail on the steep steps, no side gate securing the garden, there was a saw on the floor in the summerhouse, the stair gate wasn’t at the stairs but another doorway and both bathrooms were downstairs which was not clear on the property description. The garden was also littered with rotten apples that had fallen from the trees.

We are sorry that the Guest was disappointed with Bramble Cottage but we are at a loss to understand her review and rating. This is the first time we have received negative feedback. The listing expressly states that the family bathroom is on the ground floor and the second bathroom is adjacent to the ground floor double bedroom – ideal for older guests. The baby gate as you transit between the lobby and the hallway is removable and if needed upstairs, will fit across the door jamb with the door open. It is multipurpose as it acts as a gate to keep a dog in the lobby. The patio and steps gently slope to the garden and we do not consider that a handrail is necessary. Similarly, at the end of a row of cottages in a country lane, we do not consider we need a locked side gate. We are sorry about the apples – easily fixed now we know. - Thanks Property Owner

  • "We enjoyed our stay."

Very peaceful location. Excellent kitchen and very comfy beds. Parking was a little tricky due to tight space at front of property. One or two very minor niggles - a comfier sofa would be good and a wardrobe in the upstairs double bedroom. But overall a charming cottage.

  • "A lovely find in a quiet rural hamlet."

The cottage was well equipped and the addition of a summer house with pool table was excellent. Parking was tight and difficult at times due to the road works on the main road but this was brought to our attention by the owner. Owner was approachable and helpful throughout our stay and recommended some lovely walks in the local area.

  • "We had a lovely time at Bramble Cottage."

The only drawback we had was the parking. We have a Volvo V60 and it was so hard to turn in the space provided plus the amount of gravel on the drive meant the car sunk into the gravel making it even harder to turn. We ended up parking in the lane for the week. Kindly suggest the owners consider removing the paving slabs that try to define the front garden and put a membrane down with less stones. The cottage is lovely and very well equipped with high quality white goods. Cleanliness excellent and location superb!

Perfect for remote working or relaxing away from the busyness of life. We visited with our toddler and the place worked perfectly for a family break. Convenient bus stop at the bottom of the road and a lovely 20 min walk into town.

The property

Bramble Cottage is a charming holiday home at the end of a lane in the peaceful hamlet of Norton Green in West Wight between Freshwater and the historic port town of Yarmouth at the mouth of the River Yar close to beautiful beaches and bays.

The cottage has a large entrance porch-cum-utility room with washing machine and tumble dryer – a good place for your dog if he is on holiday with you.

The hallway leads to cosy snug with TV and feature fireplace through to a fabulous open plan kitchen and living/ dining space with oak parquet flooring throughout.

The property has been extended and renovated to a high standard displaying an effortless blend of traditional and contemporary décor, flooded with natural light.

Sliding patio doors and French windows open out onto the terrace on two sides and the sunny, lawned garden beyond. The well equipped kitchen is beautifully appointed with marble worktops and an impressive array of appliances to enhance your self-catering holiday.

Eat at the rustic farmhouse table or in the warmer weather, alfresco on the terrace.

The patio outside the summer house at the bottom of the garden makes a lovely setting for an evening drink to catch the last of the rays.

The summer house can provide a quiet office space, if needed, with Hi-speed WiFi, or alternatively a ‘cool place’ for older children to retreat with a pool table and ‘chill out’ zone.

Back to the cottage, the downstairs family bathroom also has an overhead shower and is equally versatile for bathing the little kids or enjoying a leisurely bath away from the throng.

The first of three bedrooms is on the ground floor, with a double bed and convenient shower room across the way. There are two further bedrooms on the first floor, (one double; one twin). All bedrooms are elegant and traditional with wrought iron beds, top of the range Eve hybrid mattresses and ample storage.

Bramble Cottage is an idyllic base from which to explore the Isle of Wight with its unspoilt countryside, magnificent views and glorious sunsets. It is a walkers’ and cyclists’ paradise in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Golden Hill Country Park is on the doorstep.

Walks lead from the door along the Causeway to either Freshwater or Yarmouth and a good opportunity to spot local birdlife.

Old Freshwater village has a traditional pub with a lovely beer garden, next door to the 11th Century church. Freshwater Bay is a great starting point for walks along Tennyson Downs, with breath taking views across the sea and to the Needles, or for the inland nature trail through Afton Marsh.

Yarmouth has a scenic harbour, a marina full of yachts and people messing about on boats as well as and an original Grade II listed wooden pier for a gentle stroll or a spot of fishing.

Yarmouth is well served with excellent independent shops, cafes, restaurants and traditional pubs.

It has some of the oldest architecture on the Island including a 16th Century castle. There is a road bridge over the river estuary which heads out of the town, and a short distance along is Fort Victoria Country Park and a Victorian gun battery.

It is set in a beautiful country park where you can enjoy a woodland nature trail and admire the spectacular coastline, making it another good spot to explore.

Colwell Bay is a popular family beach, which has an endearing air of the traditional British holiday with beach huts, good for swimming and water sports and the popular The Hut seafood beachfront restaurant.

Totland Bay has a delightful small beach with a short esplanade and recently renovated pier cafe. Nearby is the picturesque Alum Bay, renowned for its coloured sand cliffs and the Needles Pleasure Park.

Bramble Cottage is an awesome holiday cottage to relax and recharge in a wonderful holiday destination all year round.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes.
