  • "My grand-daughter wants to come back to Dunnose Magna, but she then wants to stay forever!"

    This really reflects our experience, lovely house, big enough for everyone to spread out, very well equipped and a beautiful garden. The location is perfect, we also benefitted from the newly laid tarmac on the lane leading down to the house so earlier comments about the state of the lane did not apply. I think the whole family would agree with our grand-daughter we would definitely plan on coming back.

  • "Dunnose Magna itself is an excellent place to stay in a fantastic location although (as noted in the property description) the 1/2 mile unmade track is badly in need of some maintenance."

    The property is very spacious and excellently specified and decorated. Being located a good distance from the road, but right on the coastal path makes it ideal for anyone looking for a good walk. Where I do have an issue is with Sykes support for the property. I had to originally really push to get accurate information on whether or not, given the location, supermarkets will deliver (they will) and was subsequently advised by Sykes that there is no hair dryer or board games in the property (there are).

  • "A beautiful cottage in an idyllic location."

    Everything one needs for a holiday rental is provided and the place was very clean. The only problem was the road leading to Dunnose Magna which is very rough and resulted in damage to the undercarriage of my cousins car. Other than this, it was a wonderful stay.

  • "Wonderful, spacious, stylish house."

    Very good hosts. Yes the access track was bothersome but the owner is trying to get it improved. Sykes MUST correct their arrival info. They recommend the WORST track of the two.

    Luxury accommodation which met all the needs of our family consisting of 6 adults and 2 children. Amazing views and garden, a very relaxing location. The owners who live next door went above and beyond to meet all our needs. Thank you so much for making our family holiday perfect. We would highly recommend this amazing property.

  • "The property was beautiful and very comfortable and we loved our stay at Dunnose Magna, however the problem of a broken shower didn't prevent us working around it for the week."

    The only downside which isn't the responsibly of the owners was the dreadful track owned by the National trust, leading to the cottage. It most certainly isn't for the smaller cars.

  • "A lovely property, couldn’t fault the cleanliness."

    Thank you so much for the hamper of goodies. Only negatives were the dripping shower upstairs, small towels and cold! We struggled with the heating and the house didn’t feel warm.

  • "The house was pretty amazing and the owners lived next door and we had a few chats with them, they were very friendly and helpful."

    The location was spectacular but the only drawback was the condition of the track/road to the property was very poor with a lot of deep potholes. The owners informed us that the road belonged to the National Trust and not them, apparently there was a rainstorm and the surface had been washed away recently. We managed in our car but relatives with a small car had to leave their car all week and come with us as the holes scraped the bottom of his car a couple of times and we did not want to take a chance of damage to his car. Apart from that we could not recommend highly enough the property and the location.

  • "Stunning property but let down by the access track The property was stunning and had everything we wanted, it was spacious, well equipped, very clean and extremely comfortable."

    The only downside to this wonderful property was the single track road leading to it. The whole length of the approximately half mile track had extremely deep and numerous pot-holes which we simply couldn't avoid. There was also an excess of rocks and loose flint with sharp edges. As a result, we could only drive extremely slowly along the track to minimise the danger to our cars and tyres. So appalling was the road surface we did not want to go out in the evening and have to drive along it again, especially with it being unlit. In our opinion you really need a 4 x 4 vehicle to drive to and from this lovely property. It was certainly not suitable for our standard vehicles.

  • "The holiday home was so lovely, clean and very comfortable."

    so much space for everyone. The weather was kind to us, which meant we could breakfast in the gorgeous garden most days. The home is quite isolated with plenty of walks available.

  • "Wonderfully spacious and amazingly furnished thatched cottage with lovely garden."

    Ideal location for spectacular walks on the coast or countryside. The coast walk to Ventnor is a treat and on the way is the fantastic Seapot cafe in Wheelers Bay. Shanklin is in the other direction. Botanical gardens at Ventnor is definitely worth a visit. Quiet valley location set back from the coast where cows and calves occupy the fields adjacent to the drive to the cottage. Superbly managed holiday property. NB I inadvertently left my jewellery in the cottage which was promptly returned to me and I am extremely grateful for the care and attention given to this matter.

  • "Dunnose Magna is a National Trust listed property An old Victorian tea room that has been excellently been refurbished."

    With four well equipped bedrooms and four bathrooms i would consider it one of the best properties we have holidayed in, in the UK. Situated in a valley close to Shanklin with coastal walks both ways and in half hours driving distance from most attractions, one could not wish for better. We look forward to perhaps returning some time when gardens are fully restored to their Victorian splendor.

  • "Lovely location and very friendly hosts, shame that the children were not able to fully enjoy their time due to main gate being left open (so property not fully secure) and boards put down on patio area where it had been dug up due to burst pipe however hosts were very accommodating so would definitely recommend this property to others."

  • "The garden was full of building materials."

    There was a huge hole which was badly covered with building boards. With 2 small children it was a nightmare. The garden itself was poorly maintained it hadn’t been cleared before we arrived. In the advert it shows a large grassy area, this in fact the owners garden who lives in an adjoining part of the property. The small patch of grass we had was not cut and covered in thistles. The house interior was lovely. With 2 children the outside area was really important and failed to meet expectations.

  • "The property is sensational and its wonderful location is matched by the superb manner in which the owners have decorated and furnished throughout."

    Perfect for a family holiday for 8 people with an abundance of space. The setting is magnificent with hills all around and the most wonderful gardens on the property itself. There are two coastal walks immediately outside of the main gates, one in the direction of Shanklin and the other towards Bonchurch and Ventnor. One thing you need to be aware of is the bumpy road after the turn from the main road, towards Dunnose Magna. The fact that the National Trust have failed to cut back the hedgerow is another slight issue, however, you simply need to drive carefully and slowly. Once down at the house itself you will be thrilled with all it has to offer. The owners Lawrence and Tracey are lovely people who are keen to ensure that everything is to your satisfaction and they even put all our Sainsbury's shopping away for us as our ferry was slightly delayed. We will definitely look to return to Dunnose Magna.

    Very spacious property with plenty of parking as your drive through the private gates. Ideal for a larger family to get together to enjoy spending time with one another. Would definitely recommend.

The property

Ventnor 1.3 miles, Shanklin 1.3 miles.

This stunning stone cottage with thatched roof is based in Luccombe Chine on the Isle of Wight.

Stepping through the front door, you will be greeted to a spacious entrance hall, with stunning marble flooring with additional dining for guests.

Its grand rooms, traditional style and modern decor give the sense of a one-off holiday home experience.

The ground floor hosts a large open-plan living room and dining area; there is a second sitting room with leather sofas perfect for getting away from the TV and reading a book.

The sitting room has three sofas and two armchairs, ideal for curling up and relaxing in front of the TV of an evening and the formal dining area sits just behind, ideal for large gatherings over a lovely home-cooked meal.

The kitchen has been equipped with all the amenities you could need for a relaxing break in the countryside.

The ground floor hosts two wonderful bedrooms, one super king-size with zip and link beds and access to its own private terrace enclosed by trellis, and one twin with an en-suite shower room.

There is also a ground-floor family bathroom room so you have a choice of how best to prepare for your day.

The staircase leads up to the first floor, which has a further two bedrooms, one master king-size and one double both complimented with their own individual en-suites.

With some of the most magnificent countryside views in the UK, you can really appreciate the picturesque location the property surrounds itself in.

Outside has a spacious enclosed patio area with furniture, a lovely sun trap spot for a relaxing evening.

There is private off-road driveway parking behind electric gates for several cars.

The owners property is on site and the welcoming owners are at hand should any queries arise.

With easy access into the thriving town of Ventnor, why not visit Ventnor Botanic Garden?

Founded in 1970 by Sir Harold Hillier, it was then donated to the Isle of Wight Council.

Boasting stunning gardens with Mediterranean plants.

Ventnor also has a lovely beach, with golden sands and clear waters.

In the opposite direction you also have the picturesque sea side town of Shanklin, with a its own beach over 1 mile long with golden sands, which is ideal for relaxing in on of the Uk's warmest climate.

For those active types, venture towards St Boniface Down is a chalk down and is popular for hiking and scenic views.

Dunnose Magna is the perfect place to stay in order to access many of the Isle of Wight's finest sights.

About the location


Sandown 2.2 miles; Godshill 4 miles.

The town of Shanklin on the Isle of Wight is a traditional seaside resort, sitting in a sheltered, sunny bay on the south-east coast of the island. Shanklin and Sandown offer all the right ingredients for a great summer holiday, with long, safe, sandy beaches and loads of family attractions, such as a zoo, pier and fairground, plus shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs. The older part of Shanklin, known as Shanklin Old Village, is set slightly lower than the town, where the road winds between traditional thatched cottages, tea shops and charming gardens and parks. Explore Shanklin Chine, a dramatic gorge with a waterfall tumbling through lush plants and mossy boulders. At the top of the cliff is the bustling High Street of shops and the grand Victorian theatre, at the bottom there are cafes, shops and amusements along the suntrap esplanade and sandy beach. Shanklin is great starting point for numerous coastal and inland walks (with the option to return using the local bus network). The rest of the island, including Sandown, Godshill, Blackgang Chine and The Needles, is all easily accessible.

Note: In the parking area there is a wall that is 19 inches high that drops down into the stream so children must be supervised at all times. There is also access to the stream through a gate in the garden.
