  • "Lovely old cottage."

Very comfortable. Ideal for the ferry and exploring the west of the Island. Best beds we have slept on in a rental cottage

  • "Really lovely stay."

We needed a home from home and Rose Cottage was perfect. Comfortable and cosy, and well equipped. Its close to dog walks and the pup was living his best life.

  • "We had such a great stay at Rose Cottage."

Tim and Jo are lovely, helpful hosts. The cottage is in a great situation: quiet but close to the beach, wonderful walks, shops. There's even a local bus. The Golden Fort walk is within a minute and is beautiful. The house is cosy and with everything you need. It was great for us to be able to bring our dogs, and they loved their trip.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Rose Cottage."

It has a lovely sunny large back garden ideal for our cocker spaniel Alfie.Very well equiped kitcen. Very nice to be met by Tim when we arrived, and we delighted to find a cake and provisions. We had a bit of trouble with the television controls so he very promptly popped back to explain them. Lovely walks from the door, drive to coast in 6mins,well placed for just about anything. The Cottage we would think is perfect for four but maybe a bit of a squeeze for six as it only has one bathroom and loo. We would love a return visit.Thank you

  • "Lovely cottage in an excellent location."

Garden secure for the dogs. Kitchen well fitted out. All rooms comfortable. Ok for the 2 of us but maybe short of toilet/bathroom facilities if 6 persons in occupation. Parking is on the road which was slightly tricky due to ongoing utilities works in the grass verges.

A very quiet hamlet. Lovely welcome food on arrival, a sunny back garden for barbeques, and a 20 min walk across fields to Yarmouth or down to the beach. Highly recommended.

Rose cottage is lovely and in a quiet, superb location. Great for dog walks and easily big enough to accommodate 6 adults and a dog. Owner was very kind in giving free fire wood, tea bags milk and cake. Also good and easy communication with Jo. The holiday was as a good as the pictures on the website and you wont be disappointed.

  • "Wonderful cottage !"

We are a family of 5 with 3 teenage/ young adult daughters and we found Rose Cottage a brilliant place to stay. Plenty of room for us all and in a great location. We loved having an open fire at night and the convenience of walking to the beach. Would highly recommend both the cottage and the lovely owner Jo who could not have been more helpful. Many thanks, we hope to return. The Blackmur family.

The six of us (aged 7 - 51) fitted in quite comfortably were made very welcome by the owner. It’s a perfectly located cottage for beach walks, sea swimming and some great local pubs serving good food. I recommend.

  • "We loved the cottage."

The owner was very generous with the food items she left for us. She met us at the cottage and was very friendly and helpful. As we know the West Wight very well (my husband was brought up in the area) we knew the exact location and surroundings well. It was warm and comfortable and homely. My only problem was that all the duvets and pillows contained feathers and I am allergic!

  • "When I booked I was told that Sykes do not have IT rates for the ferry."

I think this is something you should really look into. Most hotels on the Island offer reduced rates for ferry crossings and as the ferry is horrendously expensive this is something that you should offer as part of the package.

It had everything we needed and more and Jo and Tim were so accommodating and helpful, even offering to provide the kind of toys that the children in the party would like. This was our first visit of many to the IOW and I would be grateful if Jo could pass on the other details of her rental properties. My 7 year old daughter said, the cottage was comfortable and we really liked it, please can we come again!

The property

This charming semi-detached cottage is set between Freshwater and Yarmouth along a quiet lane.

Within very easy travelling distance of the Yarmouth ferry, Rose Cottage is an ideal base for those looking to explore the western side of the Isle of Wight.

With very comfortable furnishings and a homely feel, the cottage is perfect for a family or a group of friends.

To enter the cottage you must cross a small walkway over a narrow stream which then brings you to the front lawned area.

Inside the cottage is a cosy sitting room with an open fire which makes this a lovely retreat.

The rear kitchen has a dining area and leads out to the lawned garden which includes a picnic bench, a barbecue and some very useful storage space for bikes.

On the first floor are a double bedroom and two twin rooms which share use of the family bathroom which also has a separate shower.

Walks lead from the door along the causeway to either Freshwater or Yarmouth and this is a great opportunity to spot the local birdlife.

Why not stop off on the way at the traditional Red Lion in Freshwater for a lovely meal prepared from local ingredients?

If you fancy a more adventurous day try out some watersports including kayaking.

Slightly further afield, Yarmouth has a good selection of boutique shops, restaurants and pubs or you could dine at the beach at The Hut by Colwell Bay.

Rose Cottage is a delightful holiday cottage with something nearby to keep everyone entertained.

About the location

FRESHWATER

Yarmouth 3 miles; Cowes 16 miles; Fishbourne 16 miles; Ryde 18 miles.

Freshwater is situated at the western tip of the Isle of Wight and consists of Freshwater Village and Freshwater Bay. Freshwater village offers a good selection of small independent shops, cafes and the West Wight Sports Centre and Indoor Swimming Pool. The magnificent high chalk cliffs, rolling downs and delightful beaches at Freshwater Bay and nearby Compton Bay attract many visitors and surfers all year round. The renowned Freshwater Bay Golf Club, which overlooks the English Channel has stunning coastal sea views from most tees and offers a superb day out for golfers of all abilities, whilst the area is a haven for birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers with many wonderful walks to be enjoyed not only on West Wight but across the entire Isle of Wight criss-crossing over a much varied island landscape. Locally, Afton Down (the location of the famous 1970 Isle of Wight Music Festival), and Tennyson Down are the most popular walks. At the foot of Tennyson Down is the Dimbola Museum and Photographic Galleries. The Needles Pleasure Park at Alum Bay with its coloured sand cliffs and chairlift to the beach is just south west of Freshwater, plus a little further afield on the north coast of the Isle of Wight is the premier yachting centre of Cowes. Osborne House (the former home of Queen Victoria) is located at East Cowes. The nearby Farringford Hotel on the edge of Freshwater Bay was once the home of the British Poet Laureate, Alfred Lord Tennyson, and many notable poets, authors and painters have been attracted to the area of West Wight over the years. With the seaside town of Yarmouth close by with its busy harbour and pier, shops, inns, eateries and impressive Tudor castle, this is an ideal base for an enjoyable holiday.
